Greetings from Bordeaux! I am a resident so I was pleased to see you visited our beautiful city. There is so much more you could have seen but I would imagine you did not have much time. Capucins market is an interesting place - you will find them all over France so you could go to Les Halles in Narbonne or Victor Hugo in Toulouse and see the same. A Canele is a speciality of Bordeaux. It is flour, milk, egg yolk and butter with vanilla and rum to give it the caramelisation. The high speed train line originally ended at Poitiers but was extended to Bordeaux and opened only a few years ago. You now travel at 300kph or 200mph and take just over 2 hours. There is talk to extend it into Spain. But don't hold your breath. When you departed Bordeaux and crossed the river, did you notice the box girder bridge beside the modern railway bridge? Why is it still standing? Because it is an historic monument. It was designed by the Eiffel company. You will find Gustave left his metalwork all over France! There have been nationwide strikes and these are continuing but just today, the local union reached an agreement so the waste in Paris is being collected and the city will be clean again in the next couple of days. However, the strikes continue - you were lucky to take a train from Bordeaux on a day they actually operated.

My reaction to the Eiffel Tower was exactly the same! Smaller than I expected and made of scaffolding!! Glad you got to see it up close though. What a journey across Paris with a toddler and carrying the pushchair - you guys deserve a medal at the end of this!

It’s great to see how he takes in all of the sights and hustle and bustle without being overwhelmed - carriers are great for helping your child feel secure and safe in situations like the metro!

➡🚅 There at 2:38 when exiting the train, that "TGV" by the door explains it. The service began in 1981 with TGV being acronym for Trains a Grande Vitesse. The double-deck TGV Duplex configuration has been in use since around 1995. The French definitely know what they are doing with these high speed train services. Small - Far Away! It used to be bright yellow. Guy de Maupassant (1850 - 1893) reportedly ate lunch in the Eiffel Tower's restaurant every day for years-not because he loved the great iron monument but because, so the story goes, it was the only place in Paris where he could sit and not see the tower itself. Springy cake; where have I had that before? It might even have looked the same. I did go to Bordeaux once, but this feels more like a semi-normal thing from my childhood on the south coast of England. I suppose it could have been from my early childhood in south London with visits to Kent and Surrey. The view at 10:16 is like that from my Nana's in Hove, though a little bit nicer.
