Anyway, difficulty isn’t the point here. Kameos create a higher skill floor & ceiling than MK11. I think it would be silly for me to say people don’t like Kameos ONLY because they’re too ass at the game. MK11 just had ass mechanics.

Finally someone who critiques but isn't just hating on MK. Comparing it to other fighters over and over again, when if you do the knowledge all fighters are not the same at all. Then you get into the main event the gameplay is hella fun. Perfect? Absolutely not. The kameo system is definitely radical, we all agree on this. Prior to MK1 hitting the scene we never expected to go assist based fighter, I'll give them that. That's one argument I can't win but that doesn't mean, the kameo system isn't interesting. It just wasn't fleshed out more due to time constraints. I've always felt, and still feel MK1 was originally supposed to be coming out for 2025. They rushed it out due to yeah WB, and said we will patch everything in later but that actually did more bad PR than good. Hence all the "MK1 is Dead" vids gaining much popularity. Back at launch in Sept 2023 we were missing features, it's better now yeah still missing online lobbies. Though hey improvents have been made but as they say first impressions are everlasting. As for the rest tbh we all have similar sentiments that timeline story stuff is a meme. Though yes as you pointed out, people do forget the criticisms. In 2030 watch how someone comes out with a YT vid. "I Was Wrong MK1 Was Lit Bruh". Heh.

As someone whos been a huge fan of mk and have played thousands of hours of all of them from mk9. What you said in this video is 90% correct. Some of that remaining 10% is the following: - MK community is pretty split on kameos overall, however it's true that casuals dont like them, and casuals make up for a huge part of the community (hence why 11 is cherished). But semi-compeititive to competitive players are about 50/50 on kameos from a gameplay perspective. - If you ask anyone who's played every nrs era mk what the best/favorite was you said it's very likely they're gonna say mkx. I really believe the TRUE OGs of nrs mk would pick MK9 with X as a very solid and respectable second place. However, so many "og players" stopped playing when 11 dropped (cause it sucks) that most of the community today is made up from MK11 babies onwards, so many of them would pick MK11 as their favorite, but it's just because that was their first game and haven't played 9 or X. - MK11 is also the highest selling mk to date in part because its the most casual/offline content rich mk to date, and also has the biggest hand holding trash player carrying mechanics of them all, so no wonder it appealed to so many casuls who bought the game Overall pretty accurate video, you really know your stuff about nrs mk, which is rare to find

Honestly nickopz, i feel like even if u might be right about the lack of care of the majority for havik, its not the main issue. That writing was horrible. None of the things that make havik cool were there for titan havik, just ur typical bad villian.‌ ironically extremely predictable for a "chaos" character. Even his "death" was odd for a character whos literal power is fucking regeneration. Plus the whole bs with multiverse and ironwoman cyber ninjas. And 50 dollars for an hour and a half of an atrocious story is too much to ask. I dont think the problem is havik, they could have easily made him a super intresting villain and im sure it would have been accepted and sold well as is cause he does have a ton of layers/potential to him. I think the poor sells was all of the things above. I think the havik thing is an extremely minor part of the problem.

Mortal Kombat 1 is not dead but it definitely did its purpose. Like you’ve said before, they keep selling it, community keeps buying it… cycle continues. I personally liked MK11 more than 1 but not for gameplay reasons. MKX was accidental gold. They tried a lot of new stuff and like you’ve mentioned way back, it’s better to strengthen to weak usually than to weaken the strong. This is exactly why MKX was broken but loved beyond compare. 11 was very beautiful, amazing look to it and color scheme. Character designs had a huge upgrade from the gritty MKX. They took another giant risk with gameplay changes and they went in a way different direction in what I think was an attempt to “fix” what MKX did in fact do wrong. It overcorrected, diluted and for many, ruined what made the game fun. Their communication single handedly ruined that game for many, if they were straight up with the community we could have moved on at least earlier without fighting within. With that sour taste still in our mouths they chuck out MK1, an incomplete vastly complicated (compared to 11) buggy mess that lacked content. The issue to me boils down to them failing to recapture what they did in MKX which is ruining the competitive side me. For the casual side, there’s virtually no content outside of the same mid story mode that has terrible power scaling. The game isn’t dead but the game is not doing good either.

This video is beautiful. I love mk1 so much but it is not perfect. I loved the story but wish the multiverse wasn't in it. That was my main issue with the story. How are we supposed to explore this new era.. when other eras are clashing with it? As far as the gameplay. I don't hate the kameo system. But I would not like to see it again in the future. It's unfair that Sonya, Frost, Sareena, Kano, Jax, and Tremor fans have to play a portion of their characters rather than just fully playing them. Lastly thank you for this video. People COMPLAINED to hell and back about mk11. But then wanted to do a MJ spin and claim that mk11 is better than mk1... Nope I'm good. I've had more fun with mk1 than the entire life span of mk11.

1. I don't think pointing out that MK1 only launched on next-gen consoles is doing MK1 any favours, since the textures, graphics and animation quality from MK1 looks undoubtedly inferior to MK11. Definitely a "shot-themselves-in-the-foot" moment, because the game definitely could've been released on last gen. It did affect sales but the hubris is also the studios' fault. 2. I don't think anyone who has ever pointed out the steam numbers for MK1 and Mk11 have really made that point with the idea in mind that MK playerbase primarily resides on PC. I've always viewed it as more of a ratio sort've thing. If there are more players playing MK11 on PC, then it stands to reason that there are more players playing MK11 on console as compared to MK1. I think the drop in sales supports this idea and also overall que time to find games between the two titles but that could be anecdotal. 3. Comparing Fortnite to MK1 in terms of the way it handles microtransaction is an apples to oranges comparison. Fortnite is a free-to-play game where the privilege of playing without cost barrier to entry exists. For MK, depending on what edition you purchased, you may be $60, $70, $110, to $140 deep already. On top of that the only content the game contains is primarily online, and maybe a weeks worth of gameplay in invasions which everyone agrees is a slog to playthrough. I don't think its bad that people demand more quality for their dollar in a game that is already charging so much to provide so little. Unlike previous titles; skins aren't even bundled this time around. I.E. all the deception skins sold in a pack for maybe $5 like it used to be before in previous MK games. All klassic skins sold in a pack etc. Instead it's $5 for 6 palettes for 1 char, it is egregious. You are correct to say people don't have to buy them, but incorrect to say people should just say nothing about it just because you are vexxed to hear it. No one expressing their grievance's of the game should affect your enjoyability of the game if you truly enjoy it. I can think of a few games that are guilty pleasures that I can acknowledge really aren't that good, but its fine I'm a fan. But I have no delusions about it and I don't clash with people that do not like it because I can acknowledge when a critique is constructive. 4. MK and by extension NRS and WB studios aren't owed defense. Bottom line: these are companies that exist to make money, but the costs has to be worth the quality. And its no ones "privilege" to be able to play any of their games since none of them are free. People have the right to complain and demand better and point out bad practice. On the fault of the playerbase they should vote with their wallet. In the line up of sequential MK games, some of the games are more than a decade apart now so its hard to say it's the same people between each game always saying the previous was better than the present. This topic/idea has been explained to death though. All the MK games of the NRS era are unique from each other and share a small amount of legacy. Between MK9/MKX to MK11 and from MK11 to MK1, I think even outside of legacy changes, the overall quality [Cost to benefit ratio] is on a decline. In MK11 for most it excelled at everything outside of gameplay, and the gameplay had some good feats that were overshadowed by flaws. I.E. being able to flawless block to negate chip which has thankfully carried over to MK1. Believe it or not not all legacy games [game with > or = to 2 titles in a series] have this issue. Most good games don't divide their communities and have this sort've discourse be a *prominent* issue. I think the fact that this happens again and again is evidence enough that its an issue. Good games don't have these problems. Good games don't require massive efforts of community defense and convincing other people that what they just played is good or in a "good state". If it were, it'd be self-evident.

I think we will still get continued support via balance patches. I also think that multiverse stories can be done good like everything everywhere all at once, and the impact comes from losing the versions of characters we know. MK1 failed though because they kept on changing concepts. First it was kronika helping shang and quan (this was my favorite concept because they could've made her into a thanos like character), then it turned out she was shang (this is okay but it should've stayed shang vs Liu kang), and then the multiverse which is really bad because they just shoehorned it in. I bet you I could make a better ending than that.

Mortal kombat 1 was exposed 3 months into its life cycle on how garbage the game and how much of a mess it is. It was already dying after 6 months. NRS games die after 2 years. NRS cant make good fighting games. Time for another company to try make a mortal kombat game, prefferably a japanese company.

Also the fault on why the game is selling bad isn’t just wb its both nrs and wb. So it’s 50/50. Yeah, mk11 went to sale often after mk1 launch, but many players went back to mk11 after mk1 disaponting and lack of features and content, bad story, bad characters design, kameos, etc. He also said Steam players represent 1% of the player base.
