I like how no one talks about how there is literally a scene where it's pitch black, they open a door, and they show one character walking down the stairs lit up by the open door. Then you see blue feet walk by. You think they're going to cut. They don't. Dr. Manhattan starts walking down the stairs. He is being framed in the middle of the screen by the open door. His waist enters the shot, and he STOPS to talk. 😂😂 Bruh, I don't even remember the context, all I remember is the theater busting out laughing that they LITERALLY framed Dr. Manhattan's dick RIGHT in the middle of the screen.

I really enjoy it as well, is it as good as the book? No. Is it still an entertaining movie that explores some of its themes in a way that at least shows the director understood them? Yes. It has however been co-opted in recent years by the vaccine denial and anti mask movements, who have missed the point of it.

I think it’s a good movie, sort of. fantastic performances from John Hurt and Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, but I think it suffers because if you haven’t read the book, it’s just sort of a mid-tier action film, and if you have read the book, well, the book is just so damn good the movie can’t compare.
@JebeckyGranjola

@Lettersnstuff I can understand why Moore wouldn't like it bc the story was an allegory for Marget Thatcher's England and the movie was kind of about "Bush did 9/11"- Which quickly dated it and it's kind of cringe. But since it's about a pandemic and Fascism is again on the rise, it's come back around to relevance.

Once upon a time, me and a group of friends went to see Watchmen when it came out in theaters. We all had read the comic, and were wondering how much would be changed for it, and were doing okay for the most part not picking it apart just watching it until a voice piped up nearby in a quiet sing-song during the manhattan scenes walking around the lab... "peeenis.... peenis again...... still a penis....... big blue penis......" with a new comment on it every time he crossed the screen, and the rows close enough to hear it were snickering and outright busting up laughing by the end of the section thanks to it. That was the end of the calm and quiet watching, it became a lot more hushed MST3K razzing after that, but a lot of fun even as bad as it was.

There is just so much in adaptations of this "I understand the source material better than the original creators, I will make it better" shit. Just recently, Wheel of Time and Rings of Power come to mind, along with, of course, Henry Cavill quitting The Witcher because he thought it went too far away from the source. The original creators leaving the live action Last Airbender show. It's everywhere. Of course, some changes are necessary when you change medium. But this goes way beyond that. I just wish the adaptors could show some humility in their work.

I don't know if all of the Moore based movies are equally bad. I admit the fact that Keanu isn't blonde, isn't British and didn't wear the tan trenchcoat... and the fact that the movie wasn't called Hellblazer... were hard hurdles to get over... but beyond that I think I'd rank Constantine as one of the "Least bad" Moore inspired movies... considering that other than giving him a few cameos in Swamp Thing and basically creating the character, Moore never actually wrote any John Constantine stories. Ummm... speaking of... the movie you missed mentioning... the Swamp Thing sequel certainly was not good, but it definitely did incorporate certain elements from Moore's run on the series. Admittedly, I am a comic book geek and I worked in a comic book shop during the years when most of Moore's work was coming out. So I may have missed some of Moore's deconstructive subtleties. I didn't see Miracleman as an anti-hero or a parody, I just thought it was the best possible version of Captain Marvel that DC (or Fawcett) never would have dared to publish. And Rorschach may be a psychopathic sociopath, but you have to admit that telling an entire prison population "I'm not locked in here with you, you're trapped in here with me" is a pretty fucking bad-ass line.

I feel like the reason people think Rorschach is great is because of a burn it down mentality when it comes to the status quo. They know that fixing the problems is nothing but a fleeting dream so they instead just want to so it all destroyed, and Rorschach provides the chaos and destruction that can destabilize and eventually destroy the current system. Unfortunately they rarely think of the aftermath of the systems destruction with no alternative to replace it.

What was wrong with V for Vendetta? Asking because I like the film but wondering if I'm looking at it the wrong way. The Killing Joke book is pretty bad when you know the behind the scenes stuff where Batgirl was just a cheap tool to encourage Batman with no plans for her future. One higher-up even said they didn't care about her and to "cripple the bitch".

look if your character is gonna be swinging the thang, because he's such a god, i mean, may as well make it bigger. like horse size. Why not? Who cares? and i know, i get it, what does he have to prove? who is he trying to impress? Nobody right? But a man's got to have hobbies. Boom big dong, see how long it takes for somebody to mention it. It might be instantly, it might never happen, but it's there, it's eyecandy.

Its tough because I enjoyed the Watchman Show but I feel for Moore not having creative control of so many of his ideas

My only interaction with watchmen is the ps2 or ps3 game past that I had no idea it was one of many adaptation’s until a few years ago

I had heard the only adaptation Alan Moore likes is a justice league unlimited episode. Its the one where Superman is trapped in a dream
