What a great song! It makes you proud to be a Torontonian.

Great song sung by Tommy. Very much a ballad of its time, making me nostalgic for a Toronto that no longer exists unfortunately.

I was so young when Channel 79 signed off with "People City," I saw it maybe three times a year. But here I am more than forty years later watching this excellent short documentary.

We moved from Toronto living now in a small BC city for the past 15 years but always feel connected to Toronto since I spent my entire life there previously, such a classic, would hear this often falling asleep as CityTV ENDED IT's broadcasting day! It all came back in the first couple notes and just gave me a warm feeling. Really is Toronto's anthem in my view.

I remember this song from the late 70's. WOW!!! Toronto was great back in the old days, I truly miss it. Now Toronto looks depressing and it lost its spirit.

Progress is what made your memories....with a lot of good intentions. Unfortunately progress today doesn't have those kind of intentions like we had. Money, money, money, votes, votes, votes.

Brilliant! Thank you for this post. Been loving this song every 4 or 5 years for a long time. Ambrose and Gray! I needed to hear the history. Thank you. Btw, we've been missing a David Crombie...thankfully we've got a Ford at the ON helm.

Damn Tommy was cold. Solid vocalist who could sing anything.

This theme at the time was and still is the city of Toronto to me, sure it sounds dated, but to me this theme is the spirit of Toronto. It's too bad City TV is now owned by CTV, I believe it was a bad idea to sell this station at the time, they would of been better standing on their own, but at the time it came down to this dirty little thing called money.

This is great. If I had the power to time travel, I'd probably be stuck in the Toronto of the 70's and 80's.

It was a pleasant time. I was born in 1969 and lived as a young kid in the 70’s and a teenager in the 80’s and I have nothing but great memories of our city. Not so much now. I was on the subway today and felt out of place and feeling down about it.

I think a lot of inspiration of Charlie Harpers character from 2 1/2 men was based on Tommy Ambrose...Charlie was even a jingle writer
