Everyone used to do that in America, too. Even a lot of 4-wheelers would flash at the trucks to let them merge in front. But nobody does it any more. Trucks don't even do it for each other now except for the old guys.

My dad when he drove for clark, he was up in Pennsylvania, while at a stop light about to get on the highway some guy jumps on his truck and asks if he has about 5 bucks. On his reply he said no, as he went to get on the highway, the dude is still on the truck at 15 mph, the guy said, "cmon man I need money man please", my dad proceeds to reply with, "this is your time to jump dude", at this time the truck proceeds on the on ramp by 40-50 mph, may I remind you, dude is still on the side, hanging on for dear life. With his final words on the side of the truck being "cmon man I know you got those 5 bucks", and my dad replies with, "dude your about to get on the highway, when I get on the highway I aint stopping, so you better jump". As he gets up to 60, dude finally jumps.

Holmes Rd is close to the Mississippi state line. Whenever you're in Hickory Hill (aka Hickory Hood), especially at night, be careful. Unfortunately, Memphis drivers are considered the worst; compared to NYC and New Jersey. Do NOT give these guys at the intersection a handout. They make more money in one day than you do. For 17:59, the law in Texas is that turning left on red in that situation is permitted, following the same rules as right on red. Sec. 544.007 "(d) An operator of a vehicle facing only a steady red signal shall stop at a clearly marked stop line. In the absence of a stop line, the operator shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. ....... the operator may: (1) turn right; or (2) turn left, if the intersecting streets are both one-way streets and a left turn is permissible."
