i agree, ragnarok was straight flames.. i was basically smiling the whole time i played it.. and the game was so long.. i played it for weeks.. i even remember at one point thinking i was almost done with the game, but then i got to that huge open area with the dragons and i was like stunned.. i even looked at the gigs (i played it on ps4 pro) and GoW2018 was like 40 something gigs, meanwhile GoW Ragnarok was over 100 gigs... it was a HUGE improvement over the first game... just the bar scene alone was worth $60 lol.. the part fighting the grandma was lit too.. i loved the game.. honestly ragnarok for me was the best ps4 game PERIOD.. no cap.. i loved it.. it was just pure quality from start to finish.. very fun, great story, high attention to detail, amazing graphics and ran well.. way more enemy types, excellent dialogue, great humor, i absolutely loved odin, way more characters than 2018, new weapon i didn't even know about, the list goes on... loved the norns too!! ..it was an instant classic for me.. and one of the best parts was there were really no politics.. politics and agendas are what ruined naughty dog in my opinion.. for me santa monica and insomniac are the goats of gaming right now

the gameplay and graphics were cool, but the story was pretty bad. Freya, Thor, and thor's wife (forgot her name) doing a complete 180 was so terribly written, ruined the story completely for me

@@N-Khal as far as characters having a change of heart, it was better than the last of us 2 where abby was forgiven but the bigot sandwiches guy wasn't.. that entire game was about getting revenge on abby but they let her go for basically no reason at all... so when it comes to characters having a change of heart, i've seen MUCH worse than freya... also i feel like freya always knew two things deep down 1. they only took out baulder to save her 2. she couldn't beat kratos in a fight... she was just an emotional wreck and probably dealt with misdirected hostility

*Coming back to this a year later i still think the game aged well. When i got the platinum of it i think the only major gripe i had was the underwhelming Odin final fight but that was about it. Coz thats where i can see how people felt the ending was rushed with regards to pacing where the game is nicely paced throughout but then rushed in the final act to try close all the storylines and paths.

I highly agree with you on hypocrisy in the gaming community. While I love Souls games, I fucking hate the Elden Ring fanbase. People were saying GoW Ragnarok is “more of the same” but Elden Ring is Dark Souls 4 in a open world. Plus they feel they gotta shit on other great games that came out last year.

It was great and I loved it. But in a way I liked the story dynamic between Atreus and kratos in the first game better which makes sense because once two people bond already, then that story is done. This one sort of felt like a marvel movie in terms of scale and “epic moments.” One thing that REALLY bugged me was what they did with Thor. Instead of dying to an easily telegraphed attack, imagine if Thor JOINED you in that fight against Odin and he sacrifices himself that way. They could’ve had you play as kratos with Freya as your companion and seamlessly transition to playing as Atreus with Thor as your companion. I’m trying not to seem negative because this was the best game of last year for me

I got the plat trophy for GoW but not Elden Ring that tells me I enjoyed GoW way more because I only plat games I genuinely loved playing. Also I played on GMGoW difficulty but it never felt like the game was trying hard as freak to cheese the player with artificial difficulty like in Elden Ring. In fact id say GMGoW is one of the best and perfectly balanced max difficulties in any game and isn't just "enemy hit harder".

I’ve also platinumed elden ring etc and this game’s definitely just cheap bs on the hardest mode. So many enemies and bosses will 1-2 shot kill you, while they become major damage sponges. So YEAH it’s artificial/cheap difficulty bs at its finest. Has nothing to do with my skill level

8/10 for me. Them Atreus sections were rough as hell in my opinion. Like I was genuinely bored and having trouble getting through his sections especially with Angrboda. See God of War as a franchise has always been about Kratos. I’ve heard people try to argue that last of us did the same thing. Yes and no. Last of us had one game that was dual protagonist driven. So of course part 2 would follow that formula. God of war had 7 GAMES as Kratos and then all of a sudden Ragnorak got me playing as Atreus?!?! Nah bro. There was a huge difference in enjoyment between the characters too like every time I got back to Kratos it felt like a thirst had been quenched lol I get that it was for character development but most of Atreus’s important character moments happened in cutscenes anyway so just show me some cutscenes and get me back in control of the Ghost of Sparta! But everything with Kratos was amazing! The moments of him and Atreus were amazing. Basically I’m here for Kratos or Kratos and Atreus. Not just Atreus cuz I promise u if the next game is just about Atreus I probably won’t be playing it. That’s why I knew they wouldn’t kill Kratos cuz if they did they’d kill the franchise right there.

Ragnarok really shined with its gameplay improvements, despite me having some issues. The Draupnir Spear seemed disappointing at first, because I honestly would have preferred Mjolnir, but I grew to love it. Side missions were engaging, besides the ones given by the spirits, like the last one. Muspelheim and Nifilheim were mainly used for side content, once again, but they did end up being more integral later on. I can deal with the above, because my main issue was the story, it was less focused and the urgency of Ragnarok felt on par with the "Keyblade war" in KHIII, lmao. Chaos looming, but we keep wandering, collecting shit, wasting time going to the Norns, dealing with everyone else's *little* problems. Didn't even care for some of the new characters, like Freyr. Felt nothing when ol' buddy died. There's strong moments, acting, writing, but I was kind of... disappointed by the end. And now I'm left wondering why was the Guardian Shield reduced to nothing and WHO BLEW THE HORN??!!

I think the problem is lot of gamers don't use logic in their reasoning.. example the reason why I did not like the final expansion of assassin's Creed Valhalla was because it did not seem like an assassin's Creed expansion it it felt like it was a identity crisis for Ubisoft to turn assassin's Creed into a alternate version of God of war... I think God of War Ragnarok is the epitome of linear game with backtracking and top notch story telling. I think Elden Ring is the epitome of open world game and true freedom of action. I enjoyed both for what they are. Can't understand why anyone would compare those 2 games that covers completely different niche. God of war bring nothing new. But it's done so well, the gameplay and the story is so perfectly crafted that it's the pinnacle of what you will ever get in that type of niche. Elden ring brought true open world and absolute freedom in a way that was never done before but it had a lot more tedious moment than GoWR. That being said. On a technical point of view. I agree Elden Ring deserved the Game of the year title. It was an incredibly ambitious title to bring forth and an even harder title to keep entertaining given the size of the world. On a pure pleasure and entertainment point of view. I think God of war deserved the game of the year title even if it wasn't innovative. It was truly a masterfully crafted story. Ultimately i believe Elden Ring won because it actually took more of a risk regarding ambition in it's creative process. That gave it the edge. But would i compare the 2 in any kind of way? Hell No!!!! To everyone trying to down God of war Ragnarok to up Elden Ring ignoring the simple fact those games are so different that it's like comparing Chess and cards! -> Stop, Shut up! Then get both and play both thank you very much. xD

4 minor complaints. I still think the camera is too close up. The 2nd Atreus section was an absolute chore for me, and couldn't wait to get back to Kratos lol. Climbing and traversal is still lame compared to the old gow games. Button mapping could be better. But despite that, it's still an amazing game.

Love the mainline GoW games. After ragnarok I think GoW 3 is still my favorite. And I played GoW 3 last!! I started with 2018, 1, 2, 3 then Ragnarok once it came out. Recently replayed GoW 3 and it’s just too badass and epic. Different kinda game but I just think it’s so amazing. I think ragnarok improves a ton from 2018. I just really think 2018 had better (slower) pacing. Imagine if they make the Norse saga a trilogy and some elements weren’t as rushed. Either way great story and great game. Sucks it’ll be some years before we get a new GoW since they’ll probably change the location/myth. Will have to make tons of new maps and assets. Ragnarok had a good turn around time because there was a lot of the skeleton for the game already their with the characters, map, levels etc. Hoping it doesn’t take 10 years for a new GoW.

I would give the game a 8.5-9/10. I thought basically everything was improved and the game was great but I had some issues with last 2 hours or so. Everything after Broks death just felt so rushed. Some of the story moments like Sif and thrud helping felt way too rushed especially Sif. She was about to get Atreus arrested and probably killed but now she changes? The first Thor boss fight was much more epic than the last one. You were flying all around Midgard in the first the second just doesn’t compete. The whole Odin mask was kind of for nothing. Thors character was better when he was a scary menace and I disliked the way his character arc ended. Plus we didn’t even get to use mjolnir. The Kratos and Atreus moments were great though and Broks funeral and the music that played there and during the credits was amazing. But other than that my other biggest complaint would probably be the realms. I wish niflheim, muspelhiem, helheim, and Asgard were more explorable. And I also had some issues with the dialogue. It was overall a great game and my personal GOTY.

My biggest concern for God of war 2018 after I played regular and New game Plus is that there was not enough content in the game by the time you finish all the side quests the main campaign collect the best armor and weapons after all that all there is is to just do collectables.. plus I got sick of using a f****** boat 😂

Another creator I enjoy said that too when they review jrpgs. I prefer the reviews that aren't trying to beat a game in a day or 2. Cause a lot can change in that week. Loved the game. Gave it a 9 out of 10. Only real issue I had was the end just didn't feel as epic as I was hoping for. For all the buildup it was just like that's it. I remember the end game fight right before the final boss in Heavenly Sword was far more epic. Even some of the set pieces in the og games. I probably would rate 2018 God of War a 9 also. Cant really choose between the two on which one is better. Story better 2018, Gameplay Ragnarok. I enjoyed the og trilogy more then the Norse Saga. I feel they could've got one more game out of this chapter of GOW & no a standalone Atreus staring game doesn't count lol. I actually hated his sections & just wanted to get back to Kratos. But Sorry Elllldreennnn Ring was Goty imo 😂

I thought the Odin fight was great once his whole facade was revealed. Definitely thought the way thor went out could of been better like I mentioned

@@TheGamer2323 Odin fight was fine. Just the build up to get to it I thought should've felt more like an epic scare war. The stuff going on in the background was cool. Way cooler then what we got to fight lol. Also I thought the 2nd Thor fight could've been like Zodd vs Superman Epic from Man of Steel. Like fighting through buildings & going through mountains. Plus it was kinda tragic that Kratos didn't get to grab Thor's hammer lol. I mean how epic would that of been 🥲

Honestly, this game was great but incredibly overhyped. Games like RDR2 is what a masterpiece should be. GOWR is a masterpiece in its own right, but compare the two, it's night and day.

The thing that bothered me the most about this game, is how conflicted Kratos was and how much he held back. Even Thor said i want the old god of war, but somehow we never got that....what a shame...

@@sakuragi1062 I don't think so. You have to understand that in mythology, the Greek gods were known to be notoriously lazy and unmotivated to engage in combat. The Roman gods on the other hand were always battle ready and prepared for combat. The same goes for the Norse gods. Jupiter was the battle ready and war like version of Zeus basically.

I think God Of War Ragnarok is great game. The story was great, characters were great, and everything else in the game was amazing. And like why was everyone complaining about the lack of enemies and terrible bosses, when you got raiders, dragons, and berserkers in the game. And that first fight with Thor was amazing. Like I think that the people who are complaining about the game are people who only played the main story and ignored all side quests, and are the same people who were harassing Santa Monica last year for a release date.

I was going insane when kratos teamed up with atrues and he was in his bear form. Definitely should have gotten goy. Elden ring I don’t understand the hype… because it’s hard and has a big open world with very little story.. idk gow had better gameplay, better story, better graphics.. I don’t get it.

I agree that the first hour is legendary, but after that the story was so disappointing. Of course, it had it great moments but it felt rushed, with too many loose plot threads unjustified payoff. Santa Monica needs to "Be Better"

Bro, as someone that has been watching your content from time, I am a bit disappointed that your review of this game just coming out now esp since u already finished the game eons ago. Like other YT used content on this game and further contents of some aspects of this game to gain more followers with their interesting views etc. I have personally subbed to one or two. It seems like a wasted opportunity. We your subs want to see you grow and make moves for that but you have to put yourself out there my guy
