Mimi absolutely, positively, ate that up. I really do not care what other people say about her. There is the well-known knowledge that the original run of Funny Girl has over a 1,000 performances to it's name. And Mimi is the reason for it. Imagine carrying an entire show for almost 2 years and still (just from hearing a sliver of her line delivery) giving a beautiful and tender performance as Fanny. She doesn't even attempt to be like Barbra and I have immense respect for that. That takes guts. And she definetly has them, I mean, listen to her belts-

you say "I really do not care what other people say about her". that's very heroic and noble of you. but what do "other people" say? what terrible calumnies are they saying? and do these people look like strawmen or like windmills?

Her voice is so achingly beautiful. You even hear some of her operatic training in her performance

Johnny Desmond loathed working with Mimi Hines. They had a very public outburst on stage towards the end of the run of the show. He famously said he would have knocked her in her teeth but it would have spoiled her only talent.

One of the problems with today’s Broadway is the lack of talent depth so that when a star or performer leaves a show someone with a different talent pool can come in and make it her own. Mimi Hines had her own perspective and talent to make the role her own, very different than Streisand. In fact the line deliveries were better (based on her background as a comedian) and she was an effective singer and interpreter. Beanie Feldstein should have learned how outclassed she was by Mimi Hines and bowed out. Having a “Funny Girl” birthday party when you’re 4 or 5 doesn’t qualify you to perform the role, any role, when vocally, dramatically and physically you can’t cut it. On the other hand, it’s lucky for Streisand that Ray Stark (his wife was Fanny Brice’s daughter), David Merrick (original co-producer) and Jule Styne never learned about Mimi Hines or she would have gotten the role first. Sad, really sad, that nothing big ever happened to her after (well, not the film of HELLO, DOLLY!) but something worthy.

Its not talent- theres lots of that . But you need a name to sell tickets at todays prices often,
