Very happy to find this celebration of the incredibly talented Mimi Hines on her 90th birthday. In addition to her comedic talent, I consider Ms. Hines one of the absolute best song interpreters. Mimi has it all: outstanding musicianship, phrasing, and, of course, that marvelous voice. It's wonderful knowing that those who have worked and known Mimi Hines love her too. What a terrific tribute to an exceptionally talented artist!

It's interesting that every panelist commented that, despite decades of work and being AMAZINGLY Talented, Mimi isn't more famous or well known because she is down to earth and kind, and she is NOT ruthless or overly-ambitious. That really tells us A LOT about show business, doesn't it?

Mimi's SHINING HOUR, INDEED!!! Thank You for shining a well-deserved (and much needed) spotlight on Mimi. There's a CD called "THE MIMI HINES ALBUMS", recorded about mid-1960's. Mimi sings a lot of Broadway songs, including three from "FUNNY GIRL." Mimi is every bit as captivating as Barbra, and the clip from "THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW" demonstrates clearly that Mimi also made the role of Fanny Brice HER OWN!!!!! I heard Mimi continued to do "FUNNY GIRL" in repertory/summer stock. I saw her in "PIPPIN" (dir: David Armstrong). I haven't seen John McDaniel since "THE ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW." Fabulous!! Well... John was in Seattle for the pre-Broadway tryout of "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN", which I saw, so that counts. Thank You for another FANTASTIC program, Richard Skipper!! I hope Mimi sees this. Happy Birthday, and God Bless.

Mimi is the embodiment of the quintessential entertainer, as defined by Carol Channing, a definition paid forward by Richard Skipper. Carol went beyond semantics: "entertainer" versus "performer" -- an entertainer's intention is to connect with the audience. Mimi personifies that choice of artistic orientation by being authentically present and in the moment; spontaneous; fresh; fully committed and invested; exuding full conviction; willing to extemporaneously bend and flex phrasing, dynamics, tonality, inflections, nuances while gauging and reading the audience response. Reminds me of "I got thirty-six expressions, sweet as pie and tough as leather, and that's thirty-six expressions more than all the Barrymores put together..." ("I'm the Greatest Star" from Jule Styne and Bob Merrill's "Funny Girl.") Thirty-six THOUSAND expressions... and then some. This celebratory edition is a veritable lovefest honoring the ongoing, enduring living legacy of now-nonagenarian Mimi. Any given clip of her performances is a definitive master class in versatile beelining to an audience's heart, mind, soul, funnybone, and tearducts. The edition's illustrious panel of some of her collaborative, intimate inner sanctum of colleague/friends, plus the heartwarming taped well-wishing, congratulatory greetings, provide the priceless reminder and reassurance of Mimi's incomparable, indelible imprint. Just her inherent vocal technique that has a seamless passagio (vocal register break) is just one of her remarkable trademarks and hallmarks as a tour de force of nature, keeping us always engaged in her artistic interpretations. The restrained, rubato iteration of a song ("My Shining Hour," "The Music That Makes Me Dance," "Who are You Now?" for instance) calibrated to build, open up, blossom, compel, and soar -- and maybe land in hushed poignancy and reflection in her myriad possible trajectories, arcs, journeys, contoured stories. Happy Ninetieth Birthday, timeless Mimi! Alan C.

Don't we all wish that there was more material available from Mimi's days as Broadway's second "Funny Girl". Streisand exited the Broadway run because she was due to open the London production (she had to cut that run short after discovering that she was pregnant); and production on the film version started shortly after that.

She needed a better agent. She should have been on the Carol Burnett Show every season, had her own show, been a substitute host on talk shows, had a sitcom, etc.
