Seeing wonderful work like hers leaves me with mixed emotions. On one hand as a beginning wood carver I appreciate how much talent and work goes into her carvings. On the other hand, I know that I will never be that good.

Danny, you can be that good. Some people's paces are just different. I happen to have an early carving of a well known woodcarver in the US and it is very rudimentary. You would never known he lacked that skill if you see his later works. So, keep at it.
