Commenting for the algorithm Edit: congrats on the 30 days man. I am an alcoholic myself, and I don’t think there’s a lot of happiness that comes from alcohol. That being said, I see some people who can drink responsibly, and with moderation I don’t think it’s harmful at all. The hard truth that I had to face is I’m not capable of controlling my drinking once I start. So hats off to the people who can enjoy, I will never be one of them. Good luck Andrew, I know it’s cheesy but you can do this, one day at a time.

It is absolutely bizarre how, like you say, alcohol is ingrained in our culture. I am from the UK and now living in Scandinavia and it's all the same. Everything revolves around it. 90% of social invites are about drinking. I want to stop but it feels like it will make my life harder to not join in and that thought alone baffles me. Its funny how too if you're not an alcoholic then you can't have an issue, when in reality I think most people who are drinking regularly have somewhat of an issue. Tom Hollands recent comments on it I think ring very true.

Love this. Surprised at how many people were cognisant of the negative side of alcohol. If you've tried to quit drinking loads of times and can't, and I'm not saying this to judge, just from the perspective of someone who is a recovering addict, it's a sign that the drink has control over you and that you might need some extra support like with a 12 step fellowship I'm a bit biased but Narcotics Anonymous changed my life so significantly and made it so much better I've always gotta sing it's praises.

It wasn't bad at all, didn't really feel like I needed it to have a good time, also not having to worry about chugging 4 bottles of water and peeing 10 times through the night was amazing. Didn't have to worry about waking up hungover or anything either. It was pretty awesome

I come from a long line of alcoholics, and been around it first hand. Never had the urge to ever want to drink, even though my friends all did. I will drink on occasion in a social setting a few times a year. Maybe once or twice every other month or so. It’s also nice having a very low alcohol tolerance. I only need one or two seltzers or two beers and I’m good for almost the whole night.

Drinking is bad for you. I’ve been a bartender for 7 years. It’s fine if you’re going out in a group or having a get together but realistically if everyone is focused on their work and other obligations this shouldn’t really happen that often. Like maybe every few months. The occasional drink at home is fine as well. It’s when you drink out of boredom or depression and it turns into a regular thing that it’s an issue. Certainly if you’re going out every night or even 3 times a week. Maybe not at first, especially when you’re young, that’s pretty normal, but I’d watch for how long it goes on for.

I luckily do not have a problem with alcohol. I have maybe 1-2 beers (or equivalent) every couple of weeks. In moderation, most things are okay. The problem is that some things are harder to moderate for certain people. For example, when I was 19 or so I would vape and could keep myself away from the thing for more than a few hours. So, sadly, that is not something that I can enjoy in moderation. For some people, alcohol is the same way.
@ZombieRommel Жыл бұрын
The girl in the tiara is hilarious! I'm not gonna lie, I really love alcohol. I'm 37 now and basically didn't drink at all until I was 30. Rye whiskey is great. Love Old Fashioned's and gin and tonics. I'm an extreme introvert and alcohol has given me a new lens through which to view reality. Watching a good movie with alcohol can be incredible. I notice things I never noticed before because my chattering forebrain shuts the fuck up, and I can be immersed. Same thing when I'm with a friend or a lover (especially if they are also drunk). You enter into another plane. For me it's helped me deal with suppressed emotions and integrate them more fully. I do think I got a little carried away with alcohol last year and I respect my limits now, and I also make it a point to take self-care seriously. I've been going to the gym pretty consistently since May. You just can't let it control you and tailspin your life. Also if I drink too much, the physical effects the next day are unpleasant. I mitigate the stomach issues with antacids, but the malaise and brain fog sucks, so that naturally made me cut back a bit. Still, I don't think alcohol should be demonized. If you can limit how much you consume and under what circumstances you consume it, it can offer a lot of therapeutic emotional benefits IMO. I do respect anyone who has decided it's not for them and quit, though.
