I 100% understand the transition from super meaningful tattoos to just “images that I like”. I guess usually you try to put meaning in your first tattoos and then with time you start to realize that what matters the most is what the images makes you feel, regardless of meaning and words… also, I think when you stop thinking of the messages and more about the images you sync with your tattoo artist the most, because a tattoo is not a novel, it is a graphic art… not everything makes a good tattoo, even if it is a good story or concept.

I spent a long time thinking about something meaningful I should get tattooed on me when I got my first tattoo. But my best friend told me that the act of getting the tattoo itself can be meaningful, I’d just overcome a massive part of my life and while the tattoos image isn’t symbolic, what the tattoo represents is, me finally having having escaped a terrible situation and doing something for myself for once. I think that every first tattoo, whether the image is meaningful or not, represents someone taking a chance and diving into the unknown. Which itself is awesome and meaningful enough

@@ellie_ack6 it’s a nautical star on my right calf. Ironically it’s to symbolise finding your way home and I had just moved back home when I got it, though I didn’t know that at the time so it didn’t factor into my decision to get it. In hindsight I wish I’d have gotten it somewhere else as a calf is prime real estate, but I love it regardless.

I love hearing stories like this. I am someone who waited and planned and only has bigger tattoo pieces, so I think it's cool hearing how other people approach their tattoos. Regarding how others feel about your tattoos: I think you gotta be true to yourself. It's about your journey and happiness. Some of my family and friends aren't fans of tattoos but they support me. My tattoos are apart of me but I am more than just my tattoos.

My first tattoo was spur of the moment and I love them. My three butterflies on my side are where my 3 kids sat while they were cooking. My 2nd was a matching tattoo with my daughter. We got Friday the 13th flash tattoos on our chests. They’re tacky and not great, but they make for a great memory!
