I love Torrevieja as it has a lot going for it. As well as the sun and sea it has a nice friendly vibe and people are generally very friendly. There is a wide coice of restaurants that are reasobably priced and it is accessible by car and public transport. I have visited many other areas and countries off season and they are no different than Torrevieja with businesses closed over the winter. Torrevieja feels relatively safe compared to the major cities and hopefully with the redevelopment of the harbour area it will continue to improve.

I've just got back from there, done a couple nights pub crawling. Some great places to eat and visited a few beaches. We all had a great time there. Will be back for a 3rd visit only 2 hours away on the plane.

From the title and the first few shots I thought you were in Murcia which is often given the title. But yea Torrevieja can often look like a concrete mess but it definitely has it's charms just like Murcia city also.

It’s definitely the fishing village that grew and still is growing. The downside of it is that the locals cannot afford to live there

I've read in a Spanish forum that they want to make Torrevieja a high-tech big city of 500k people, that's why they wanted to expand the desalination plant. There were plans to erect highrise buildings near the marina. to make the area more inviting to digital nomads and high skilled expats. They also had some plans for co-working areas and business incubators. Supposedly because this city is the first that went over 50% foreign population so it's very good area for high growth like IT industry. This was a hypotethical article, but there maybe some truth in it

Good stuff again Barry. I personally believe the local tourist board doesn't do enough to publicise the city. Tomorrow for instance there are 20 bars/restaurants taking part in a Tapas Run (tapa and drink 4€), same again next week. Unless you're in Torrevieja, I doubt you would know. We attended a Big Band concert last Saturday, not even half full. Maybe with the new harbour area opening up, publicity might increase. And Brexit definitely hasn't helped. Another well known KZbinr is heading home soon for their 90 days sabbatical in the UK. Potential 3 months of income being spent in Torrevieja gone. Thousands like this.

Brits aren’t the biggest expat population in Torrevieja people forget this. Am sure they down to 3rd now after the Russians and Ukrainians.

Yes correct. I'm sure the UK/3rd country retirees/home owners that could, would spend longer than the 90/180, particularly over the winter period.

It's nowhere near as dowdy, dirty, rundown or full of graffiti as Torrevieja is though!... House prices are usually a give away... There's a reason why house prices are much higher in Benidorm and why Torrevieja has some of the lowest house prices in Spain!... Let's be honest, most Brits living in Torrevieja are only doing so because they can't afford property in Mallorca, Estepona, Malaga or similar!... There are far better places to move to in Spain than Torrevieja but it's low-cost compared to many other regions so is affordable to many Brits!

Lower or stop taxes and regulations. Free the markets and people will develop the town Torrevieja and province of Valencia. Or do you think that more taxes and regulations will help anyone to refresh the single floor houses and the business? Stop wishing for more regulations and taxes. Let hard earned money in the poket of the worker or businessmen and everybody can live better from their businesses. Make a video about Monaco or Dubai.

Great vid. I'd recommend you visit Jerez, the shopping streets are where they always were, very very few chains and 1 (IIRC) fast food burger place. They have some sort of scheme to support local owned businesses and the whole centre is an utter joy, free from the garish signage of the national chains, it's busy as hell too. The chain shops are all there of course, but banished to a retail park on the outskirts. There are a few towns like this in Spain but Jerez is the only major city that l know of. 👍

Just the other day I met a total rarity here in Torrevieja: Someone born and raised here. I wanted to ask her if she got an award or something but unfortunately my Spanish wasn't up to it, so I made an impressed face instead. Seriously - no it isn't pretty here, but the prettiest place gets dull if that's all it has to offer.
