@@Kitkat_____the uighurs r not being discriminated. It's actually a deradicalize movement by china. During the rising of taliban in early 2000, some uighurs were also radicalized, the taliban recruited the uighurs as well. So what the chinese gov did was to deradicalize those that r affected. I know islam is just like any other religion, peaceful. But it's a fact that we hv to accept that a lot of muslims these days r radicalized, and go to the extreme. The chinese gov just go for the direct approach to solve the problem. Im indonesian, so i really understand the problem. Becos a lot of indonesian muslims r becomin quite extreme. Some even go as far as dont want to be friend with non muslim, becos some extreme preachers told them to. N some wont even respect the indonesian flag, becos they call it haram. It's really a problem

Two of the oldest working mosques in the world are in China. One is the Xi'an Grand Mosque you visited, the other one is in Guangzhou and is slightly older than the Xi'an one. The Guangzhou mosque was founded by an Arab merchant who was contemporary to the prophet Mohammad. This means as soon as Islam was founded, it already found its way to China and it also means the sea-born Silk Road was just as developed as the land route and probably safer. The architecture of the 2 mosques typically followed the design of any grand buildings of the time such as palaces or Buddhist temples. Mosques with onion domes and minarets arrived at China on later dates.

Hello Steve and Ivana. Here are some answer to your quision in the vlog. At 5:14 - 7:38, it is called mirror cake with ross paste (玫瑰镜糕), originated in Xian. It is made from glutinous rice flour and uses different kinds of rice and techniques from mochi. The paste is a ross paste; I'm unsure if it contains any lotus. This particular rice cake street food has some history. Its shape is quite like the round bronze mirror used by the ancient Chinese, called a mirror cake. At 7:39 -12:01, the meat pie is called Samsa (烤包子, which means baked bun in Chinese). It originated in central Asia and is filled with meat and vegetables, often onion and beef/mutton. Also, with the correct ratio of water and flour, the dough will be sticky to stick to the side of the oven. About "Critical Grenade", a clueless, probably silly translation. At 14:03 - 18:25, the bread in soup is Paomo (泡馍), which originated in Shaanxi. It is made of lamb/beef soup and unleavened flatbread (which is why the bread is so dense). Shaanxi people like to shred the flatbread by themself since they can shred the piece as small as they want. The glass noodles are not made from rice starch but green bean/sweet potato starch. At 18:26 - 19:21, the pickled garlic (糖醋蒜) is made with sugar and rice vinegar. It could be eaten alone as a snack or as a side dish with other food.

In ancient China, there were followers of Islam, and Zheng He of the Ming Dynasty was a Muslim who gained the trust of the Chinese emperor. I also want to tell everyone that many high-ranking officials in the Song Dynasty were Muslims, but China did not implement the integration of politics and religion. Therefore, the Chinese emperor often changed his religious beliefs, for example, he would have several religious leaders compete in spells to see who won and who believed. This also avoids religious wars. For example, in China, the Dragon King is the god in charge of rain. If the emperor requests rain, but the dragon king does not rain, the emperor orders the statue of the dragon king to be tied up and beaten. If God blesses China, the emperor will expand the temple for him. If God is not good to Chinese people, they will cause trouble in the Heavenly Palace and ask God for fairness. For example, the Chinese mythological novel "Journey to the West" tells such a story, so being a god in China is stressful. If the god does not bless, it will be difficult to preach in China.

I am a Xi'anese who studied in the US. This area is on the older side also because the government doesn't intervene in the lives of minorities. The government used to want to demolish and renovate the area, but because the Muslims didn't agree with it, they didn't intervene anymore. There are more than 56 ethnic minorities in China and all of them have a lot of favorable policies. For example, they get extra points on the college entrance exam (similar to the SAT in the US). Because there are still many ethnic minorities living in areas that are not well developed in terms of education and life, the government gives them preferential treatment. There is a Muslim girl that I knew from this street in my high school, her family sells marinated beef on the street and that alone pays for her schooling in the US. They makes a lot money actually.
What I really love about you two, besides the fact that you two are so adorable as a couple, is how adventurous you two are. You two, literally, had zero understanding of the cultures in China, but has been 100% into learning about it by experience. You don’t google things to let people’s opinions affect you. The bread thing is acutally non-fermented dough, so the density is very high. And glass noodles can be made from either pea or mung bean. Traditionally, people would tear a whole bread into pieces themselves when the cook prepares the meat soup, and then add the bread pieces into the soup after the soup is served on the table. Undeniably, China has mandated students to learn Mandarin in education, but this is also to enable people from different regions with significant cultural differences to communicate with each other.

It is clear that if you want to enter a university in the United States to receive higher education, then you must pass the SAT exam conducted in English. Moreover, for non-English-speaking immigrants from Asia and places like Mexico, it is difficult to carry out daily life in the United States without mastering English. (Unless they live permanently within their local communities.)

Mandarin was first implemented not for the minority races, but for Han Chinese who speak different dialects to be able to communicate with each other.

Cool video. Mostly seems about food, which I enjoyed seeing all the halal foods. Wondering if the mosque was in use, or basically a museum? Did you guys get to Xinjiang. Love to hear more about Kashgar, and Uyghurs. I'm with you on how the food sticks to the side of the tandoor. Pretty amazing technique. Enjoy!
The mosque shows in the end part of this video is a good example about how well Islam religion is integrated with Chinese culture, which I believe is difficult to happen within a monotheistic Christian civilization. Since ancient times, when dealing with foreign religions, Chinese has wisdom to integrate foreign religions and Chinese culture to realize harmonious coexistence. When there is a chance you could visit Niujie Mosque (牛街礼拜寺) in Beijing, which is also a building combined Islamic religion and Chinese style architecture.

As a Chinese, what I want to say is that the Chinese government does not actually care about religion or ethnicity. It only cares about the stability of the regime. You can think of China as an ancient feudal empire. The goal of the government is to maintain rule. Ethnic issues are just a tool to maintain stability. If necessary, the government will even take the initiative to create conflicts among various ethnic groups to allow the people to divert their anger towards the government. Europeans and Americans have always looked at China's social issues according to your own thinking habits, such as the classic human rights issue in Xinjiang. European and American media always attack the CCP on ethnic issues, but in fact it is just the government cracking down on separatist forces. I do not support the Chinese Communist Party, but I hope that Westerners can criticize the Chinese government from a more correct perspective, so that can truly help the Chinese people.

The following article is written by Ismail Bashmori, he is an Egyptian China watcher. The truth is that China is the greatest country on the face of the earth. It makes all other countries look insignificant and contemptible. It is the most brilliant, most industrious, most ambitious, most educated, meritocratic and technocratic, most modern, sophisticated, and civilised, and best-governed by far. . It is the first non-white, non-Western country to reach this status since the 1600s. The determination of this country is indescribable. Supernatural. There is no force that can stop it from accomplishing anything it wants to do. It doesn’t matter who we are. Egyptians, Syrians, Pakistanis, Indians, Africans, even Americans. Next to the Chinese, we are pathetic. We can’t do what they do. We would have a mountain, an Everest of changes to make, and we would whine and bicker and fail at every one of them. China’s story since the 1980s has been one of an almost divine metamorphosis. Next to China the entire Western world from Alaska to New Zealand has stagnated. Next to China the entire developing world from Brazil to Madagascar has progressed only at a crawl. China is the mother of all gargantuan bullet trains. Every day it manages to create something new and astonishing. And unlike the United States, unlike the British Empire, unlike the French, Dutch, Germans, Spanish, Portuguese or any other Western nation that had its turn at being a superpower in the past four centuries, China doesn’t need to run anybody over or take something from somebody else, to rise majestically. China is also standing up to the West all by herself. The West can’t believe their four-hundred-year-old global supremacy is being challenged. They hoped that the more China developed, the more it would submit to their influence, interests, and leadership. That didn’t happen. So now they will do anything possible, short of a nuclear war, to make China end. Their goal is to destroy this country. That’s why, although the United States has killed several million people and turned several regions of the earth into hellscapes. China is the worst fear of our planet’s Western masters. They want you to despise and dread a country that’s done nothing to you, that hasn’t invaded anyone, bombed or sanctioned anyone, that hasn’t overthrown any foreign government, or used its military on anything since 1979. China is the only major country in the nonwhite developing world, to stand up to the West. To look it in the eye when challenged or threatened. The Global South are simply Western puppets who submitted long ago. Even the most powerful ones. Saudi Arabia, Brazil, India. The 1500s-1000s BC were Egypt’s time. Antiquity belonged to the Greeks and Romans. The 1700s belonged to France, and the 1800s to Britain. From 1945 to the present, the world has been under American overlordship. And they call it the Pax Americana but there isn’t much Pax in it. There’s plenty of Pax if you’re in Europe or Australia. But the Middle East? Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Iran and Yemen in the past 20 years. Latin America? They’ve destroyed that part of the world beyond any hope of recovery. Africa? It’s only been spared because of disinterest. The US sees Africa as nothing. The whole West does. But in the twenty-first century, we are witnessing the rise of China. We are decades away from China becoming the greatest power on earth. This will be China’s time, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Attack China all you want, curse her and monger rumours and hysteria - but the truth is that none of your accusations are backed up by evidence. The Western press is under the thumb of Western governments that want to stay on top of the world for eternity. And the truth is that China is not affected by the noise and maneuvers of her enemies. For her first thirty years, from 1949 to 1979, China was basically blockaded and isolated economically and politically by the West. It didn’t even have a seat in the UN General Assembly. And it was dirt-poor in those days, barely a speck of the global economy, a tiny fraction of Japan’s or Germany’s GDP - not even able to prevent famine. And it still didn’t submit to pressure or take any orders. Why on earth would it do that now? China will be the next global power. There’s nothing that can be done about that. The first stage is that its economy only needs to grow at 4.7 percent per year to become the world’s largest by 2035. That means the usual, historical bare-minimum of 6 percent is already overkill. The US can build as many bases as it wants, slap as many sanctions as it wants, recognise whatever bogus genocides it wants. That’s what it’s been doing all along. Has any of it made a difference? China can adapt to any situation. It took China a mere ten years to go from being barred by the US Congress from participating in the “International” Space Station, to building its own Space Station from zero. Above only part of the article, you can read the full article under the following link. www.dailyexpress.com.my/read/4459/west-can-t-believe-nor-accept-china-s-progress/?fbclid=IwAR3aJYSZC3rbUgM1NwHCO73XxnNzNkJPa9wrSsFp-4KMxTozuJiHBwLJDXU

About the history of Islam in China. It all began during the lifetime of the prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). When four companions of the prophet : Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, Jahsh ibn Riyab, and another one reached ancient China by sea during the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279). They preached Islam and converted a massive number of people. As proof, The Ding Zhou Mosque has an inscription dated to 1348 recording that Sahaba Sa'd Waqqas had brought Islam to China. Since then, Islam continued spreading in china. Even when some were against it. Nowadays, there are around 20 million Muslims in china. And the greatest concentration of Muslims is in Xinjiang, which contains a significant Uyghur population. (May God give them resilience!)

@10:15 "kaobao" has mutton inside. The muslim minorities use a lot of mutton in their food. Noodle dishes, rice dishes etc. usually have mutton in them not lamb. You'll see a lot of tumeric and cumin being used which is not like the food you'll find in eastern parts of China like Shanghai, Beijing, Canton region etc.
