First story: OP did *nothing* wrong. Mark was a hypocrite. It sucks he was cheated on but if anything, he should be *empathising* with Gia BECAUSE they were both cheated on. Frankly, Mark needed the metaphorical smack in the face. Second story: she had every right to. I was always raised for respecting my elders, but if everyone else was serving themselves (including older family members like MIL), there's not reason the FIL can't. Third story: the girlfriend deserves much better❤️ if she's worried about her health and wants to do certain things for it, that is HER DECISION. It is *her body* not his - he does not get a say. It's also very hurtful that someone doing something for themselves involving their body automatically means their not loyal.. i hope this girl gets treated better❤️ Have a good day/night everyone❤️❤️❤️

Ok, to the op in the last story, there's nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight and indulge once in while. What ISN'T ok is a partner who tries to control your actions and outright accuses you of laziness and CHEATING when you're NOT in the wrong. If it's important to HIM that you LOOK good, how's that gonna look in marriage life? Will he keep being insecure and unsupportive, trafficking your every action that would reflect on him in some way??

About the first story, I agree that it was about time he be fed the medicine he was prescribing. If you deliberately cheat on someone, any reason you provide is an excuse to be selfish. If you were unsatisfied with your current relationship, COMMUNICATE! Talk through it, solve it, and if it can't be solved, end the relationship, and _then_ you're free to pursue someone else.

My mom has taught me to respect people, everyone, if they deserve it. This doesn't mean disrespect people until they've proven they're worthy of respect, it just means don't put up with anyone's shit because you're supposed to "respect your elders". Because guess what, sometimes elders can do or say some stupid sht, they are not always right, and sometimes their views and thoughts are outdated. This was what my own mom told me from a very young age, older ≠ wiser. Use your common sense, they're not always right.

7:00 I had something similar happen to me with my brother. I made us both chili, and I dipped my food out, and left him half. I waited for a while, but he still wasn't coming. (Keep in mind, I never served him food unless it was for his birthday.) I yelled food's done, and he said okay. Five minutes later, he comes into the kitchen, and asks where his food is. I tell him in the pot. He got huffy, saying he thought I would serve him. I went off, saying he could get off his lazy butt and serve his own food, and that I am not, and will never be his maid.

I had a similar situation, I was cooking breakfast and I suddenly felt a bout of vertigo and it was so bad I had to lie down on the kitchen floor, after a few minutes I could get myself back up again and since the food was done anyways I rushed to my room to lie down. My grandmother went to me to ask where the food was and I told her it was just in the pan but it was all cooked and she can just get her food. She huffed at me and was annoyed and scolded me about not serving it on a plate in the dining room and she didn't even notice the state I was in, this is why I don't cook for her anymore.

My mother taught my dad a lesson. My dad hates turkey but I use turkey burger in my goulash. All he ever does is complain about it but also eats it. Mom waited until my dad was really hunrey when she made dinner. She refused to let my dad eat any of the ghoulish as he said he hates turkey and complains about it so he wasn't going to be allowed to eat it. she also banned my dad from eating anything else for several hours. Every time he tried to sneak anything she would let of this growl and tell him to put it down and leave the room. Mom and I were very cruel to him by eating in front of him while saying this was one of the best ghoulish we ever had and ask him if he wanted any before getting petty saying 'oh wait you don't since you don't like turkey sorry my mistake.' He learned that dad to shut up about what meat is used. He was allow to eat about 6 hours later only for my mom to take the bowl away from him after a complainant about how the pasta was made. He learn that day not to complain that day about the food as every time he did that mom would take the food and not let him eat. He is not the type of person where food is to be on the table when he gets home, that only happens when he called from work saying that he would be out of town for a while due to his weird hours at work. We may have gone to far or may not have but he doesn't complain about turkey being used in the food anymore.

sassbrat - Our mother used to do something like this, only in reverse. If we said we didn't like something or complained about the food, we got twice as much of it and had to eat it! That pretty much put an end to complaints to the cook! We could still politely say "I don't care for that" so she would know if we liked it or not, but we still had to eat a little bit as it was still part of the meal. We always had to at least try new things. I thank her for that now, given all the wonderful foods I can enjoy because of it. 😊 Nowadays, they don't call them picky eaters, but individuals with discerning tastes. 😆

@@Lav_Pixie2007 It worked though. We only did it maybe 3 times before he got the message. It wasn't like he didn't get to eat that day, it was just that if he complained about the food them he would have to wait to eat. Maybe it was a little cruel but he learned.

I think it's a "hangover" from very early days, when the elders DID know whereof they spoke (Avoid that dinosaur, keep your head down when travelling between enemy territories, don't eat that plant). For survival of the clan/tribe/group, it was important that young people (who think they know everything, or are simply plain ignorant of some factor) pay attention in order to survive all the things they don't know about yet...It was more about "Elders' experience is valuable"...Just my take on it. Some cultures, usually matriarchal by the way, took into consideration all age groups/genders/persons' input on any important decisions affecting the tribe as a whole, even though the head of the family (a woman) would make the final decision. Because modern society is so disjointed; we don't rely on a group to survive, but virtual strangers to get our food to the table, there's no modern reason to "respect your elders" because we are all thrown out into society to make or break ourselves, to some degree. There are certain modifiers, mentors and influences channelling us through our lives, but we can pretty much choose who or what they are. Not so when your survival, and essentially everyone in your clan, depends on each person or child doing what is needed.

Wait wait wait... Second story! So OP INVITED them to her and her husbands house? And the FIL decided he sat at the head of the table at THEIR house? No... Just no... This is not how it's done... When you get invited you sit where the head of the house (Traditionally the husband of OP) would sit you. He is at the head, the second host (So his wife OP) sit's on the other end of the table. And at the right hand of the husband (Host 1) you get the guest of honour, if there is one. So yeah, he has no idea what he is doing he just likes to be in power... Jikes... I'm a slow learner, but people who automatically lie when someone confronts them about what they've just done (or said) (apart from that being gaslighting anyway) is that those people are cowards. And if they're cowards, they're often bullies too. Just keep that in mind. The exception to this is when a child is very timid, or a parent is yelling way too much at the child for "childish" mistakes. Then when a parent or adult says "Did you do that??" to the kid, the kid will learn to lie to avoid the unpleasant confrontation, which he/she feels unmatched to withstand. Sometimes adults don't grow out of that stage.

Ellen, this is about the only time I could disagree, and agree with you. I am a retired US Army Infantry sergeant, now your neighbor, in the Philippines. When we were in the forest, at mealtime, the youngest soldier got fed first, and then went up from there, by age, of course, we had a list. The point being, is that as leaders, you always take care of your people, first and foremost. Sometimes, not often, there would be no food left for sergeants and officers. No problem, we were experienced enough to have food enough to share for ourselves Living in an Asian culture of course, he would get due deference. But in the US? He can go shit in his hat.

All I could do was cry in that moment and he didn't even care. First story; If you can't take being served the same things you serve others, *don't dish it out.* He's a massive hypocrite and his mom shouldn't have sided with him, unless she doesn't know the story to the full extent (I.e, she doesn't know the things he says, and thought it was a one time thing) but even then she should understand what was said and how OP just said the same thing back. Second story; I'd have done the same. In my family, we respect our elders but serve ourselves unless we're really young, have some problems with out health or other reasons falling under these types of situations- not just because "I'm the man, I should be served by you, not have to do it myself" type of thing. Though I understand where her dad's coming from- he probably wanted to make a good impression(if this was his first time meeting that family) and thinks his daughter could have been a bit nicer but still stuck with what she said. Third story; For anyone confused, the balloon she's on about is a *Gastric balloon- a surgeon inserts the balloon orally and then expands it with sterile saline fluid, once it is placed in your stomach. When full, the balloon is too large to pass into the bowel and this makes you feel fuller with less food in your stomach.* You can research it better if you're really curious, but this is just the basic knowledge to help you understand. Also, why does she have to look good for him but he doesn't have to look good for her? That's a bit hypocritical if you ask me, she doesn't have to lose wait unless she wants to or a doctor says it'd be best for her health(just to limit possible health problems). She's not cheating him by not being able to lose wait fast, he's just picky and needs to suck it up. She's doing her best, but if she feels like she wants to lose wait faster- than maybe she can try different exercise (more, if she already has some) routines, I know there's a few that can really help, but they definitely take time and motivation.

I hope the last person didn't marry that guy. He's showing his true colors, and if isn't treating her right now, he won't magically start once they're married. As for the not serving the father-in-law story, I think the dad just meant the woman shouldn't have told her father-in-law he could starve. It's fine to refuse to serve him, but telling him to starve is taking it a step too far. You can shut people down without being disrespectful or mean.

Respecting my elders stops when they cross a line with me. Respect works both ways; you respect me, and I respect you. *THAT* is how it works. FIL is a narcissistic, entitled little so-and-so. I would have done the same thing. Or, fix him a plate of whatever _I_ put on, and throw it down at his place. Either way, he would also get a speech about how this is *MY* house, not his, so he needs to respect _ME_ in *my* house, or GTFO! I just can't stand a narcissist. And even worse are the gas lighting, "flying monkeys" that support them by accusing the _actual_ victim of being rude in defending themselves.

I feel so stressed for the third story person... I have tried damn near every tactic to lose weight, and when none of them worked, I felt hopeless. I was legitimately doing my best to stick with the routines and diets, but when they failed I felt like I just hadn't done it right or tried hard enough. (This led to some eating disorders, as you might imagine.) So for Person 3 to be apparently on the right track with their method, it's ESPECIALLY infuriating to hear them be called "lazy" or "weak-willed" *while they are actually doing it.* All this is aside from the obviously problematic bf. Being served by only women is too old time-ishy, he needs to forget that. He is from a different time. This should have been discussed before hand. He is someone that believes that bread winners should be served first, so he is big on respect. Having the situation play out the way it did and so publicly is going to be perceived as very disrespectful and this is only going to cause problems in the future.

If the guy in the last one didn't want to be with a woman he thinks is overweight then why was he with her at all? Go find a woman who is thin if that's what you want. DUH

I'm not sure about the respect given but if your grandparents have another child after you're born that kid will be your uncle even if your older. In my culture it's up to you wether or not you show them respect but they still have that title.
