From what I remember, the original phrase is "the customer is always right in matters of taste". It came from a manager speaking to his clothing store employees so they wouldn't try to talk a person out of buying something that the employee thought looked terrible on them. In other words, it's their money, so let them spend it at our shop. edit: This was from years ago, and probably from before I was born, and I'm in my 50s.

My sister used to work at chick fil a and the amount of stories she's told me about rude customers is insane. One time her friend made a customers milkshake wrong and that rude customer threw the milk shake at her. From what my sister told me, fast food is a pretty hard job and they work really hard, my sister has even came home with tiny burns on her arms from the hot oil splashing everywhere when she's making food. I don't understand how someone can be so evil to ANY employee on earth. (Unless that employee is being rude as well)

My friend worked in fast food and was in drive thru and he gave a lady a shake and it was the wrong size, so instead of letting them know, she angrily chucked it at their ead but missed. They literally picked up the shake and threw it at her face, and they didn't miss, and it exploded all over her and her car. They said the complete and utter shock on her face was priceless, and she just drove away in total shame. Every person we've told that story to always thinks they were totally justified 😂

Ugh I hate it so much when customers just throw the change on the counter. This one time I had a regular customer who was always pretty rude throw his money at the counter instead of handing it to me. He did this all the time and I just about had it with his crap. So I finished the transaction and just before I gave him the change, I instead put it in the donation jar for the local children's hospital right in front of him. He got mad of course but backed off when I loudly asked him if he was serious about stealing money from kids who needed the help with everyone in the store watching us. When he turned to storm off I told him to have a nice Monday. Most petty thing I did in my life!

I work at a KFC/Taco Bell. This one girl ordered a medium fruit punch, which is the drink that takes the longest to fill up. She ordered light ice, meaning it would take even longer. After it finally filled up, she had just finished her order and then said "Oh, I want a large fruit punch with light ice instead." So I took the lid off the medium, poured it into a large cup, filled the rest of the large cup, and put the lid on. I gave it to the woman and shut the drive thru door to get her food. Right before I opened the door again she pulled off the lid and she said to her mom, "there's barely any ice in here!" Some people think that large and medium cups hold the same volume, and some places do that but we don't. In that large drink was light ice for a MEDIUM cup, not a large. I felt petty because it took awhile for it to fill up, and she had me fill it up again without even asking politely. She wanted light ice, she got light ice.

for the first story I got really upset, clearly that lady doesn’t realize WHY these people need food stamps. for example, my dad has crohn’s disease and lately its been taking a toll on him, he has severe arthritis from the neck down, he has a bulging disc in his back etc etc. he is physically incapable of working. he did have a job but his in-laws, my grandparents and aunts BEGGED us to move out to Utah to live with them because my mom’s mental health is deteriorating faster than water vaporizing in a desert. so now we live in Utah and work currently isn’t an option for him like I said, so he has to have food stamps. That’s what he has to use while going through the long-ass process of applying for disability, it’s always been easier to apply for disability if you have a mental condition, (my mom is applying too, she just applied later then my dad did because for awhile she was in denial that something was wrong with her.) but since his conditions are physical its taking a lot longer. he had donated blood multiple times just to get a little money for his children, aka me and my brothers, I always reject the money though as I’m the only child who is aware of our situation, my brothers are completely oblivious to it. He works so, so hard for us and I want to help him, but there isn’t much I can do as a 13 year old besides trying to convince my 17 year old brother to get a job:(

I'm sorry your family is going through all that. But actually physical problems gets disability faster than mental. I've had mental health issues for most my life and was refused, was only when I ended up in a wheelchair from cancer that I got accepted. Kept being told mental disability is not enough. Besides mental health I also have autism. And now in a wheelchair with 3 types of cancers. I hope he gets accepted soon, chrons is not fun.

ODSP pays for all my medication in Ontario, on top of my monthly check, which is about in like with what you said. My mom has to pay for me between $500 to $1,000 monthly in order for me to get them and stay alive!!!! I worry what I will do once my mom is gone. I can't live alone and can't afford this on my own. I'm just really hoping I get better but take it day by day. Today was the first day I was able to go out with friends in months!!!! I'm often too tired and weak. It’s the machines fault, or you’re running some scam Me: miss please just try again Karen: *taps again* And the machine approves the transaction Half of the receipt prints Karen sees the half printed receipt. I worked for Walmart until October 2021, and there was a problem customer who would come in and throw temper tantrums trying to get the teenage kids to either cry, quit, or get fired because he was that kind of flaming garbage of a human. I had already put in my 2 weeks (which would end on my next shift) and had another job already signed, so I wouldn’t lose it. He came in yelling and cussing at me because he couldn’t find something in the pharmacy, keep in mind that I was a cashier and the pharmacy had been closed for about 2 hours at this point. I proceeded to inform him that his attitude was not appreciated and that the only person who loved him was his mother, and that was because she didn’t want her pregnancy and labor to have been for nothing. I then told him that if he wants to call corporate I’ll do one better and call them right then and there for him, have them on speaker and tell them everything that went down. I then proceeded to inform him that I didn’t care because I had already turned in my 2 weeks, had a new job already guaranteed in writing, and the 2 weeks was almost up. He had nothing he could try holding over my head. He hasn’t been back since.

Regarding the handling of money to the Cashier/cash handling server: From my first job in a takeaway at 14 to working ticketing in my 20’s at events with 10s of 1000s purchasing, I’ve definitely experienced the delightful entitled sod who threw their money at me, or just dropped it on the counter in front of me. “HOWEVER” there is also a separate group of people who unfairly get grouped in with the above. Those who with care and manners “place” the cash funds on the counter in front of you . Would it be quicker for you, the cashier to have it placed in your hand ? Possibly. But there’s no malice, no disrespect there. In fact chances are they are showing “YOU” respect by not placing the money directly into your hand as it is fact the case in some cultures. I can’t remember which culture right now, remember the couple ran a shop when I was a kid (Painsomnia is REAL rt now!) but will try to edit with update if I can. If you did manage to read this - Thank You!! It took way to long to type, smh, and I’m not even sure it got my point across.

Tbh it ain’t bad to use food stamps never knew why people thought it was bad to be on and use food stamps. It shouldn’t matter what someone uses to pay for things at a store. Personally if I saw someone using food stamps/EBT in front of me in line at a grocery store I would probably just stay silent and look at my phone and wait for them to finish. The story about food stamps had my blood boiling like you can’t come at someone for using food stamps when you don’t even have enough money on your card to even pay for your groceries. I’m glad karma got the customer.

As a part time cashier/clerk I relate to 7:00 so much lmao. At some point I would just wait for them to put their money down on the table. Another thing I hate about customers is that they would try to "cut the line" by handing the money to a random working clerk and attempt to leave the shop with their stuff in advance. This happened to me while I was still working part time as a clerk. A guy attempted to just give me the money because he thinks the line is too long. Worst of all, he payed with a big bill and needed his change, which he asked to be from my pocket. At that moment, I was sensing a red flag so I told him I am not allowed to do that and just gave his 50dollars back. Good thing he left without a fight or else it would've been another horror story :'0 Although it was a loss for our shop but I feel like I would be in big trouble if I really do as he said. Seriously, customers need to understand that you do not hand money to anyone but the cashier. It's not only inconvenient for us and for your own good so that some greedy ass part timer won't just keep the money for themselves instead of submitting it to the cashier. Also, if you really want to pay us, make it a tip lmao xD

I work as a chef, my friends, several of them work in retail, stores and such. When someone is rude to one of my friends, she just uses mag control button or how ever you call it. She can close the automatic door with it. So one day she saw a guy who is verry rude, verry often. She kept closing the door when he aproached them. And when he moves backward she opens it. It lasted for about 20 minutes. She kept doing that whilst he was sweating like a pig outside in the sun. His mom was in the shop already, not knowing what is hapening and that he is there too. She met me there and my, then boyfriend, now husband. We told her he is outside. His mom asked how come he didn't come in. We told her he got delayed because of some serious techical isues 😁😁

I have the best revenge story with customers. I work at a theme park. One of the rides I work on is known as the scariest ride we have. It’s called the axis. There have been multiple times that customers have threatened to hit me because I’m not starting the ride fast enough (I’m a weak female and it can be hard to pull their lap bars down sometimes). When this happens, I wait until the ride starts and let my acting skills kick in. I look them dead in the eyes, my smile drops to a scared look and i mouth to them “hold on tight, you bar isn’t locked properly” (it is but it’s great to see their faces). It still confuses me how people could be so rude to someone when they are about to put their lives in my hands. This ride is 100% safe and won’t start unless everything is in perfect condition but it really does teach them a lesson. Every time they get off, they say that they’re very sorry for being so rude and make up some excuse.

As a previous cashier, I felt these lol One time I had a sweet customer who was there with her kids but her card, unfortunately, was declined. She tried calling her bank while her kids were sitting in the cart. A rude woman in the line tried to bag the woman's grocery items for her to get her out of the line faster. Because she was in such a rush and she was being super rude about it to the point where she made the woman on the phone with her bank cry she was so upset. I called my manager over who suspended the order and took the nice lady to another lane after I explained what was happening. I made it a point that once the rude lady in a rush got to me I just rang up her stuff and shoved it to the end since she wanted to bag herself so badly. Then I helped everyone else and made sure I bagged their stuff for them. She looked annoyed bagging her own order while I happily bagged everyone else's. Everyone else in line literally clapped when she left. And said how horrible and rude she was being. And praised me for making her do everything on her own, she was a real piece of work. The super sweet lady came back to my line when she was done and hugged me for helping her. After that day she made sure she went through my line whenever she was there and saw me working =^_^= I hope that beautiful woman is doing well now! =)

When it comes to the whole phone thing, I can understand if it’s a work/school call or an important situation. However if it’s a call that isn’t important and can wait until after the transaction, then I don’t like it. The transaction shouldn’t take too long and it kinda gets awkward.

Customers are rude to employees for a lot of reasons: 1. They had a bad day and really don’t realize they are using a snarky tone until someone points it out (I do that by acting concerned and saying “you ok? You seem tense about something. Anything I can do to help?) 2. They are trying to bully the worker into giving them a better deal on the service they are getting. 3. They were raised by people who treat workers like servants and don’t know any different. 4. They are up to something shady, like shoplifting, and are trying to scare away the worker before they get suspicious. The list goes on,

Something you have to remember about the store clerk asking, "Can I help you FIND something?" There are three parts to that question; the first part is silent, implied. "You've fooled around long enough." Then the second part, spoken aloud, "Can I help you find something?" Finally, there's the third part, never spoken but always in my thoughts, "The front door, perhaps?" Think about that the next time you compel a clerk or waitress to ask you, "Can I help you?"

I took a library book with me in my handbag (going to the doctor's later), and popped into a store to get something. Well, the barcode thingy on the library book set off the "shoplifter" sensors. So here's me with the one item I bought, in my hand, face red as a beetroot, wondering why a noisy klaxon is blaring to tell everyone I've "just shoplifted". Security person looked in my handbag, saw the absolute mess (embarassing by itself); then I clocked the library book; handed it to him, walked back through the now silent alarm, he handed it back and I never took a library book shopping with me ever again. FYI. (p.s. this is in Australia) 7:09 I've had to put money on the counter, just on one day. I was "zapping" everyone with static electricity. One woman basically gave me such a dirty look, that instead of putting the last of the change on the counter, I put it into her hand and "zapped" her. She wasn't game to touch me when she handed me my goods. She put them on the counter too. Lol.

God I’m so glad I don’t do customer service work anymore. It was a nightmare. And drivers are no better. I was going to work and I was in the fast lane going a large but not stupid amount over the speed limit and this tiny car comes behind me and starts flashing it’s lights at me. Granted if it was an emergency I would have moved over but we’d both been driving on this stretch for a while and you can tell he was just one of those. Well he flashed his lights again and I slowed down just enough to trap him between me and a worker van for the next couple miles. As soon as he got free he booked it then nearly ran into a semi that was crossing the road cause he was driving too fast. Well then the next traffic light turned red and he ended up stopping right next to me to yell at me. I know he did it on purpose cause he moved to the lane next to mine and rolled down his window then proceeded to scream. I just shrugged and waited for the green light. Not five minutes later BAM school zone. I cackled.

Everything is so satisfying. But the Starbucks, Walmart and restaurant one were pure geniuses. And yeah, I know how you feel...
