Same with mine :) I remember being like 12 and told my dad that I’ll wash his plate for him and he said something like “No no its ok I’ll do it.” Then I kinda nagged him about it because I didn’t think it was a big deal to wash it. He then stopped me and told me that he was refusing to let me do it because he wanted to teach me that I should never be cleaning after a man or my future boyfriend/husband. Never forgot lol

That's great to hear, I'm not in a relationship with anyone but if I had a man who isn't really handy or isn't a mechanic/plumber by trade I wouldn't care because I my dad taught me and my sisters a little about cars since he's a car mechanic and an electrician. So I could do a little of the technical stuff like with electronics, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting someone else to fix things around the house either.

(For context, I have little to no experience with actual romantic attraction and I suspect that I fall onto the aromantic spectrum.) Do people really not see these red flags while they're in a relationship? I know there are people who manipulate and gaslight their partners (which is terrible) but these situations make it seem like they just haven't seen that side of their spouse before or something. It feels like every time I watch one of these videos where there is a marriage/relationship issue, my first reaction is always "Get a divorce!" or "Break up with them right now!"
@hannahgallagher26762 жыл бұрын
Ace and maybe aro here. I wonder the same thing sometimes and I think there are a lot of reasons. Not having very healthy models of relationships growing up, thinking they can fix someone, being too afraid to be alone, etc.
@meghaghosh25452 жыл бұрын
Sometimes people only begin to show their true colours after they think they have you ''trapped'', like marriage or pregnancy. We do throw around the word narcissist casually but these kind of behaviours are more common than most people think. Most just shrug it off and don't care and the actual victims spend their days blaming themselves for all the issues because these people are excellent at making you believe its your fault.
@ricebeansrockroll8822 жыл бұрын
One thing with these people is that they are usually not honest. Normally when you are with someone and discuss what you want in a relationship, share strenghts and weaknesses etc you can expect the person you speak with to be honest (or atleast try), but then there are some people that will just straight up just tell you whatever they think you want to hear. You say you value equality, _they_ value equality. Etc. And then they also sprinkle in other lies they think will make them seem like better people. Like family matters to them etc. A lot of these things are things you might never have a chance to "test" until something happens that makes you stuck (moving in togheter, marriage, mayor life crisis like someone dying and needing to lean on your partner etc). Like you discuss with a partner that you want kids, and they are so excited to have kids to! Lots of them. You talk of it often, then you eventually get married... few months in you bring up kids. Kids? They never wanted kids. (And not in the "oh, I have realised I might have had a change of heart" honest answer, but straight up gaslighting like they never wanted kids or implied it).
@T_Cup Жыл бұрын
Just to add to what's been said already, I think the permanency of marriage changes people's perspectives. On one hand, while dating or engaged, a lot of people let red flags go because they don't have that same concept of "Oh, this is how they're going to be forever", coz there's still that chance that the relationship and/or the person will change. And on the other, people do change once they get married, as though that feeling of "you're stuck with me now" almost gives them permission in their minds to lean into their worst behaviour as though marriage is an unbreakable vow
@chloejarvais9619 ай бұрын
It's because they love that person with everything they have, that is the partner they chose to spend their life with, it's extremely hard to give up a relationship that easy, people think that those red flags are just the qualities they dont like abt their partner, I understand them completely.

Story 2: found the post on r/AITA cuz wanted to know if ther was an update, hopefully with OP deciding to leave husband. ther wasnt one but oh boy did the info i find make me hate the husband even more... there was 2 edits in the comments i found from OP. 1) someone asked OP why she still went home rather than stay with family or friend. OP said she moved to husband's town *away* from her friends and family, who she visits twice a month (was honestly shocked to hear husband lets her visit them that many times but wouldnt be surprised if he's tried convincing her to limit it to twice a year🙄....) For those who immediately had the same thoughts i did in that he's trying to isolate her here's the irony... 2) he's accused HER of trying to isolate him from his friends. reason why: remember how OP mentioned she was uncomfortable talking to the friend who complimented her dress choice and tried video chatting her. I figured it was cuz she was still upset and didnt want to make situation worse with husband by chatting with that friend. NOPE! Turns out that friend of the husband is constantly flirting with OP whenever he gets a chance, has made her uncomfortable (if thats what implied when she states he's been "overstepping") and is the friend that visits them *most* . OP has told her husband, but he brushed it off accusing her of making it up to isolate him from his friends 😡😡 I hope OP gets out of that marriage soon...

My brother had his grad party this past weekend and my mom decided to put up a picture of him in a Cinderella dress when he was 3 on his wall of shame. This boy decides that the best thing for him to do when he spots it is to yank it off and tear it up, but of course that only gets everyone's attention onto it then. All he wanted was for no one to see that embarrassing picture and yet that's exactly what happened cuz of his actions. Similar thing with this man in the second story. He was the one making a scene about it when everything would've been fine if he didn't.

1st Story: There is something wrong with the woman and her parents. Her boyfriend does most of the chores around the house (cleaning, laundry, etc), cooks, and treats her well/right. The woman doesn't deserve him. He deserves someone better. 2nd Story: Her husband doesn't care at all about her style/what she is comfortable with wearing. He wants her to dress a certain/particular way when they are with his friends or family. He definitely spilled the wine on her maxi dress on purpose, so that she would have to wear the expensive dress he wanted her to wear. The wife did the right thing when she chose to leave after he did that. The husband cares more about himself and is controlling. 3rd Story: Rebecca need to break up with Joe. He is toxic and doesn't have good sportsmanship at all.

0:05: Not all men are good with tools, and not all women are good with domestic chores. What's the big deal? 3:56:What a jerk! The fact he had the dress he wanted her to wear after he spilled wine on her proved he spilled on purpose. If he liked the dress so much, he should wear it! 8:38: Joe seems like who has to constantly one-up people, and when someone one-ups him, he acts like a petulant child. I shudder to think how he treats Rebecca. Also, it seems to me like the boyfriend in the first story got emasculated more than Joe did.

As a kid/teen he’d rather spent time with his Mom in the kitchen than learn how to fix things around the house and never really liked power tools and stuff. He said I needed to change because I was to underdressed. So I said ok and changed. When we got to their house we walked in and she was wearing an outfit that was shorts and halter top. When we got home I told never again tell me how to dress. That he made me feel like I thought I was better than anyone else. That’s how I learned I can wear whatever I want. Now I have to tell him how to dress for certain advents. Funny how things change over time.

1 story: She should be happy she has a man like that, yeh he doesn't fix things but he cooks and cleans and treats her right but if that doesn't satisfy her then there's something wrong with her 2 story: I think the woman should go with her husband's friend, I think he's really genuine and her husband doesn't even care about her style, he just wants her to be what he wants her to be and that's not how that works 3 story: That lady really should break up with him, he sounds toxic, obviously he has never been taught "good sportsmanship"

OP stated he always seems to flirt with her whenever he has a chance to, has overstepped in the past, and get this, comes over to visit more frequently than the other friends. But the real kicker? OP has voiced concerns of this to her husband and he not only didnt believe her BUT claims she's trying to isolate him from his friends, like WTH??

Then broke up with her right then and there at her parent's house. Second story: why did he marry her if he was embarrassed by her? His friend who complimented her is trying to hit on her. 😜 I wonder if the husband knew that and that's why he married her. Her husband is so immature and controlling. She needs to leave him. Third story, Rebecca needs her head checked. Why doesn't she want to break up with an abusive boyfriend? It's not OP's job to make Rebecca's boyfriend happy. But I won't tolerate the way she doesn't understand the man when he treated her like a queen. The second The man is controlling as fuck. Good thing you left him, bae. The third, Joe is toxic, leave him.

Honestly for the $300.00 dress story I would have said thank you and use the expensive dress to get the wine off my dress and say now we can throw this ugly dress that you wanted me to wear away.

I might just be dumb but how does a dress cost $300? The most expensive one I have is barely $15 and it’s pretty and lasted me for 4 years
