I worked for around 110 days at a Wal-Mart...for my first job. I was almost constantly chewed out for either being not fast enough (I was an online order picker, and they expected 100 items to be picked an hour...in a large store, with a list of items that aren't organized well in the sense that it would send you to opposite sides at times) or taking too long in the bathroom. Once, i was forced to clock out early and take a point for "being argumentative" with the people in the administrators' office when I was defending myself from their false accusations, coupled with the fact that they said they watched the cameras when that was a blatant lie because said cameras would have proven them wrong. That's right. I was punished for defending myself, and the person forcing me to clock out used the attendance policy instead of the disciplinary system that store has. The week i was fired, i wasn't even told, despite them having my number. I only learned of the update to my job status when i was eavesdropping on my father's call with one of the supervisors (he still works there). Fuck Wal-Mart.

I got into a fight with a co-worker who threw the first punch, we were brought to the back and told to go home, we would get a call from the Manager. I waited 2/3 days and no call so I went in every day for hours waiting to speak with him. If I hadn't gone in I wouldn't have learned I had been fired. Keep in mind for another employee that has an attitude problem and threw the first punch they fired me and didn't even bother to notify. They knew I was waiting to speak with him for hours for almost a week before I finally walked around and found him and that's when he said something along the lines of "I know why you want to speak with me. Don't bother, you are no longer employed here". I was shocked and tempted to call Corporate cause I'm pretty sure before you fire someone there has to be sides from all gotten as well as any camera footage reviewed and I'm also pretty sure if you fire someone they have to be told. I didn't cause let's be honest, they'd probably just cover it up and nothing would come of it. Karma will do more to him than Corporate. Glad I don't work there though cause if I was still working there I wouldn't have met the people that I have in the couple years since and had the job opportunities I've had since.

They cut my (and the rest of the deli's) hours to 14 a week right before Christmas (so 1 person in the deli at a time, despite a mandatory 2, so no one could take lunch or breaks) as punishment for us cooking so many chickens we lost like $13k around Thanksgiving. The store manager had ordered us to do it so the hot box at the front of the store, "looked nice" when district walked through. We were located in a rural town--not only were there not many people, it was the type of area where people cook their own holiday meals. We tried to tell the managers it was a bad idea, but they didn't care. Edit: to clarify, the money was lost because we had to throw most of the chicken away when it didn't sell, even in the ebt cooler

Not all jobs. My job, at least up to the project manager level actually cares about us to some extent. We can take time off whenever we want. They don’t expect us to work as hard during rain and super hot weather. They occasionally take us to lunch when morale is low. Not that any of this is particularly special, just that they do make some effort to keep us. Probably depends on how easy it is to train and replace an employee. Also, the bigger the corporation, generally, the less they care about the individual.

Walmart’s not the only company that doesn’t care when employees get hurt on the job. I know of three instances where people working for other companies got hurt and the companies tried to screw them over. I worked for a company where I was injured because the boss put me in a dangerous situation without proper personnel protection equipment. I almost died. After I was admitted to the hospital, the boss called at 3:00 AM wanting to know why I couldn’t come to work in the morning. I needed two surgeries. The boss was livid that the doctor put me on bed rest for two months. During the recovery period, I had to walk with crutches and have an IV two times a day. The job was pretty labor intensive and involved things like heavy lifting and climbing ladders.

I've never worked or spent a cent at Walmart but I used to pick up out of date food for the foodbank. The whole place seems like some kind of cold war, communist dictatorship with the forms having to be filled out and signed on every page and the air conditioning being controlled by the office in Kentucky where 80 degrees is practically chilly. One morning there was a "staff meeting" as I was going over the food and I heard "Teamwork, yay!" The wince on the face of the girl who was going over the paperwork made me whisper "Take your time. You should be able to draw this out to avoid that cr*p."

Worked as a temp to help in a store remodel for three months. Was offered a part time position after the three months. Management changes, new manager said he has never seen me before and I do not have a job there. On the way out, I tipped over the shelving units that have the video games and consoles because I knew it was not bolted down to the floor out of pure anger. I did about $20K of damage total of combined loss of merchandise and equipment. I am 100% blacklisted from working at ANY Walmart ever. I put in an application online, and it gets deleted with in seconds of me submitting it.

Walmart management do ALL they can’t to prevent having to call 911 for employees. At my store, there was a woman who had to come in and had a headache and dizziness. They wouldn’t let her go home and while she was operating a forklift, she fell off and got a concussion. They refused to call 911 and just had her lay in the break room and drink cold water. She was finally coherent enough to call her family and THEY called for an ambulance. After the ambulance took her to the hospital, THAT is when management pretended to care and be so worried. The employee was in the hospital for 2 months with bleeding in her brain and permanent brain damage. Walmart had the audacity to have several meetings on safety. One manager even tried telling people that he was trying to get people to call 911 and nobody would listen to him…he actually was the one preventing people from calling. Walmart doesn’t care.

I got there at 430am just so I have time to walk to the time clock. While I was walking to the time clock, I walked by a cart that had a newborn baby in it. The baby was left alone. I called the cops. The baby got taken away and given to child protective service.

I have a few stories from my time at Walmart. 1. A coworker attempted to call in and stay home because she was having a miscarriage. Senior staff said they could not spare her, either show up or lose your job. She had been staff member of the month for like a year but calling in sick on the day she lost a much wanted pregnancy was a deal breaker for them. 2. I worked for a month with antibiotic resistant pneumonia, customers commented that I was looking kind of grey. I finally got to the point where I could barely move out of bed. I called in, went to emerg, they threatened to let me go if I didnt produce a dr.s note despite it being my first day off in something like 9 days. Doc gave me a note for 48 hours bedrest. They adjusted my shift the 3rd day so I was there at opening instead of the previously scheduled 3pm. Clearly my recovery was not their priority. 3. We wrote our availability on sheets before we were hired but whoever did the time sheets didnt care. I was hired as pt staff and worked an average of 38hrs a week and wrote on my schedule I was unavailable at set times 3 days a week. I could easily work evenings or overnightts those days and they assured me this was fine but it was never accommodated. Meanwhile some of the ft staff were only getting 12 hrs on their schedules. The managers had a boom that listed shifts other staff needed covered and I would routinely pick up every extra shift I could get. Then a mo th before they let me go, a csm came up and crossed times off my schedule as well as removing the extra shifts from me and gave them to othwr ataff. She told me I wasnt allowed to work past 20hrs a week and to let her know if they scheduled me past 20. I didnt but my hours that week and the following were reduced by her. Dec 24, they call me into the office and the manager tells me the official reason they were lettibg me go was to many dropped shifts. I had still worked fulltime hours as a parttime staff from day one right up until that csm slashed my hours missing only 2 days that I traded with another staff. 4. Another dude fulltimer, injured his back at work, he retrained to work cash but they didnt want him to have a chair at cash so they dropped him down to less than 10hrs a week as a greeter. They tried to let him go while still injured. He hired a lawyer for lost wages, and they suddenly found him some hours but they had a whole team of lawyers trying to say he was faking it. Dude couldnt even stand upright anymore. 5. A girl got injured and after she recovered she was working at reduced hours for another 4 years before they finally put her back up to ft hours despite her doc giving the all clear after a few months. She outlasted the manager or she would probably still be at pt casual hours. 6. Manager who let me go had a nervous breakdown a week after letting me go. Told me later he couldnt take the way the people at the top manipulated situations in order ro justify letting people go while constantly hiring new people with the lure of added benefits after trial perios when they knew full well they would let them go in 3 months just to avoid paying benefits. 7. We had an auto shop with an entry at tbe side of the building that was just a regular glass door. These dudes who worked in the back would routinely take tvs, sound systems, etc. out the side door supposedly because it was closer to the customers vehicle. Like they took an entire flat of stuff one time couple xboxes, flatscreens, sound systems, computers, and im like wow thats a lot of stuff. They said some rich guy buying christmas presents for his family...turns out there was no security system on the door through automotive...they were robbing the place regularly for months. Eventually electronica started looking a bit sparse and managemebt finally noticed something wasnt adding up. They started watching that area on camera, caught the dudes not long after, and installed alarms at the side doors. Auto dept closed not long after, go figure.

I worked at a small walmart for 7 months and currently work at a super walmart, both times as a cashier/self checkout host. I have countless stories. One of the best ones was about the guy who picked a fight with me because in my state, I am legally obligated to check ID for alcohol purchases even if the customer is prehistoric. He didn't have his ID on him, which is his own fault, and made a big scene. I made some snarky comments to him, he asked for a manager, and didn't like what she said so he asked for a higher up manager. Then didn't like what she said and finally left the store in a huff

7:53 There was a time me and a friend went to the mall to play mini golf, and I had a coupon for one free game; the cashier said it was expired and she couldn't honor it. I understood and just used my card to pay for the game instead, she gave me a discount because I didn't argue about the coupon being expired. So remember, if they say you have an expired coupon, don't make a fuss over it, you might get a free discount for understanding.

The worst day for me as a walmart cashier was when the card readers decided they were giving themselves the option to accept anything that wasnt american express. Signs were everywhere. First and only time ever that every single CSM (customer service manager) was there at once and actually working. Every time a card was rejected we had to call one and they would suspend the transaction, take the customer over to customer service and run the cards manually in the old old way. Needless to say multiple people managed to never see the signs and we were hit with a ton of verbal abuse as if we had any damned power to fix this. The worst was the oldest people who seem to think that if youre young you should have a magic wand to fix tech and that cursing out min wage employees is a sport or something.... When i quit that job the one thing i was hassled the most about was to be sure i turned in my employee discount card. that was the only thing they cared about was that i didnt save any more pennies because of a crap discount on crap in the store.

I worked at Domino's and corporate policy was you don't have more than $20 on you at any time. I had a order to a house where they expected me to brake a $100 bill on a $12 pizza. I refused to have a $100 on me as it was a new customer and the chance it was a robbery was extremely high as we delivered to mostly bad neighborhoods. My hours went from 40 hours a week to 2 hours a week. It turned out to be a good thing for me as it helped me to finaly leave pizza delivery to becoming a semi truck driver where years later I now make $30 an hour with really good benefits for someone who is a truck driver instead of $2.13 an hour plus tips. And no that delivery charge is not a tip!!! The store keeps the delivery charge and if you don't tip the driver you are f***ing over the driver. And yes some drivers will mess with your food if you are known to be cheap on the tip or for being a total dick and no there is little likelihood they will ever be fired as there is never any proof they have messed with it. And no I don't have anyone ever deliver food to me as I know the drivers can't be trusted.

I worked for Walmart for 1 summer between semesters of college. During my interview, I was upfront about my need to transfer to the Walmart in my college town when August rolled around. The manager assured me that would be possible despite their usual policy of requiring employees to wait six months before transferring since it was known upfront that I would have to return to college. As August starts approaching, I start reaching out to management to inquire about my transfer, only for the six month policy to be cited as their reason for refusing this request. I was persistent in reminding them about the original agreement to approve my transfer and weeks later, it was finally approved, however that was far too late and all positions at the other location had been filled already. I started my senior year without the job I thought I would have and had to scramble to find a new one in order to pay rent.

A manager comes by and shakes the guys shoulder, no response, they continue to try and wake him, all while being silent as to avoid disrupting anyone still working. Manager walks away, gets another manager to help. They too are unsuccessful. Before too long, there’s paramedics placing the guy on a stretcher and carrying him out. Later on, heard that the guy had a heart attack, and was literally just sitting there at his desk silently. And the staff just removed him quietly as to not disturb anyone. That whole thing just bothers me deeply. Like.. he was a person, with desires, a life.. are we not going to talk about this?!

There was a customer that started screaming at me for no reason. I said nothing to her, I did nothing to her. I just ignored her and walked away. I was also a customer and never worked at Walmart.

I used to be a cashier at Walmart. A fellow cashier missed several days because she was in the hospital because of a miscarriage. The male Store Manager took her in his office, across from the breakroom and time clock. He berated her for several minutes witj the door open for being out because she couldn't 'keep her legs shut'. He demanded she sign a write up for three unexcused absences. She walked out and never returned.

Worked at Walmart back in ‘96 in the photo lab in Houston. It was near the port and sailors used to drop off their film. Let me tell you, some of the pics in that film was pornographic in nature. We had to include a note stating that Walmart is a family company and were not allowed to print and sell those pics. Other people would film themselves doing all sorts of things. Some things you just can’t unsee.

I've had managers that acted like I couldn't even take a 15 minute break even though I am entitled to one after the first two hours of my shift and the two hours before you go home. We have an overnight manager now that when they comes in, starts pointing and complaining on why things aren't done. I'm on jainitorial maintenance and I asked them to open up the grocery compactor and when we got there and they saw the trash that was there, they got on me for it and blamed the first person they saw basically. I told them that they need to get on the team leads and all the departments to get a manager to open it for them and stop leaving it there and passing it along to someone else and make sure it doesn't block the fire exit either. That same overnight manager I pass by personel without going in and they are so loud to a point you can immediately here them from outside the office even with the door closed and they were start complaining. If you don't want to work in your position, step down and go to another department instead of taking it out on someone else. Or better yet, find another job. Its easy to a job for the salary and not want to do work while your ass is in the office doing nothing. One of those that think they can treat employees like shit the moment they walk in. They also recently made a metal cage to put the plastics in so it can be wheeled over from the grocery backroom to the GM backroom my coworker was working it and was wonder why I was wheeling it to the other side, I told them to talk to that same manager who immediately started complaining about it and told me to move it even though I told them my coworker was working on it. I told my coworker if that happens again, a useless manager told me to do it. Now Walmart calls them the managers as coaches now. We both agreed that you gotta love it when a manager comes in to work and immediately starts being nasty and complains and loves to change the procedure. I will guarantee that when that overnight manager leaves due to getting laid off, fired or they quit, things will go back to how it was before. Always does. The only ones that win are Sam and Bud Walton's demon spawn and their family. Before my shift at 12:30 PM before a 1-10 shift on May 12, I saw $100 at a self check doing food shopping and should have turned it in and I didn't. That was my fault and I fucked up. The customer called about it and they saw the camera and I was called into the office and terminated. Forgot I had it on me, said I didn't, remembered I did and gave in to the Store Lead and the Auto Manager, who was an AP manager till a new one came in and was terminated for gross misconduct and lack of intergrity at 4:30 PM and that I was do not rehire. I was not arrested, was told to turn in my badge, vest, work phone and discount card in and was told to leave. I found a new job 2 weeks later EXACTLY and was only unemployed only for 18 days. I started orientation at my new job 18 days later. Doubt I will get unemployment for gross misconduct. I did daytime full time maintenance at Walmart. I work at a grocery store now making $15.50 an hour. I was earning $14 at Walmart after 3 years and 4 months there. I feel bad for what I did and I'm not rehireable, but at the time, I'm also relieved. Walmart was a drag and I still have lingering body pains from the job from heaving lifting from throwing out garbage into the compactors. I felt Walmart did me a favor. My new job is far different and much more relaxed. I'm NOT proud of what I did, but they did promote me to customer now. My management team was straight up garbage. Even the overnight ones. When my stepdad died from cancer on March 14, 2020 and my maternal grandmother from Alzheimers in October 26, 2020 and Covid didn't help, I had the 3 days bereavement both times plus my normal 2 days off. I can picture Walmart doing this. After I was fired on May 12, 2023, even though it was for theft and gross misconduct and not rehireable, I feel bad for what I did to get fired, but relieved feeling free. I found a job exactly 2 weeks later. And started the new job 18 days at a local supermarket. I'm earning $15.50 at my new job doing part time and after 3 years and 3 months there at Walmart starting in apparel at $11 when I started and finished doing janitorial maintenance at Walmart at $14 an hour. They took quarterly bonuses away about a year and a half ago. I worked there from Feb 13, 2019 at Walmart until I was fired on May 12, 2023! Fuck WALMART! Promoted to customer NOW and FOREVER! Management is just as incompetent as when I worked at Home Depot. I dunno which is worse, Home Depot or Walmart. I think Walmart, by a little bit, but not by much. I worked at Home Depot 7 years and 10 months there. I have to rollover my 401k from Home Depot/Walmart since it was from HD and then put to Walmart in 2020 and put into another 401k when I have the chance or they will charge me a fee a year of about $9 or just leave it there. Once I do that, I am truly done with Walmart!

One night I was leaving Walmart and there was a car right out front in park with the engine going full throttle. I walked up to the car and the driver had shot himself in the head. I reached in, turned off the car, and called 911. Still haunts me to this day.

Dude, wtf is wrong with these managers and the injuries. That's not the way it's supposed to work. Its actually worse if they don't get help because they can get their butts sued into the stratosphere. And yes, you are allowed to dial 911, though i do feel like it was frowned upon. Worked at one for three years before the new department manager tried to steal my 15-minute break from me, claiming it starts when i walk away from the register in the garden center. We were the furthest from the break room, and i ALWAYS got stopped for assistance. I was furious and started applying to any job i could. Found one in a week and left to start immediately. Felt good that i couldn't give two weeks because they needed me ASAP. Still there 2 years later, and it's way better than crapmart ever was.

Had an old co-worker at Wally-World that I'll call "O". O was the creep that hit on everyone, claiming to be pan, but then went after our teen co-workers. He then asked our female co-worker if her and her partner were having issues, and if they'd be interested in a 3-some. And the finally cherry on top, he tried to watch "c"orn on the company computers... specifically "co-worker" was in that search engine

I worked for Walmart in Bowden Georgia, Upon introducing myself to my new supervisor she told me she wasn't even gonna bother to remember my name, I got yelled at over the headset by the store manager a guy named Tony for not being outside collecting carts and then when I refused to respond I got wrote up, The headset they gave me the microphone was faulty, Nowhere in my job description was I told I would be a cart collector. I had another manager ask me what I want to prison for and how long I was in. Just because I am heavily tattoo'd. I have never been arrested. I called Walmart's corporate office about my experience now and they told me I need to go back and speak with the store manager.. It made no sense, that's like sending an abuse victim back to their abuser and asking them to stop.. I eventually just quit, That place was a nightmare it was a headache. To this very day I have not been back in the store or Walmart. I hope Walmart has to pay Tracy Morgan for the rest of Walmart's existence......

I worked Jewelry Counter at a rural Walmart in Northeastern Alabama (I’m not from there, it was after my mom dragged me there to live with family that had moved down there) and this twig of a lady who was maybe in her late 40’s but had leathery skin that looked like she’d been in the sun for 60 years solid years and badly bleached blond hair came in to look at the countertop spinner that had the body jewelry. She was wearing: flip flops, what must have been size zero daisy dukes that she didn’t fill out, and a white fishnet top that had 1” holes… with nothing underneath. Yes you could plainly see her nips.

When Cherish Perrywinkle was kidnapped from the Walmart in Jacksonville, Fl the employee loaned the child’s mother their phone for her to call 911. Is the store not allowed to call 911, does that make the store more liable?
@zomula7657
@zomula7657 Жыл бұрын
That case was unique. The store didn't know that Cherish was kidnapped and even the police initially labeled it as a missing person. Cherish had entered the store with her killer and mother and left the store with her killer of her own volition. The first thing that said that there had been an abduction was the mother borrowing the phone to contact the police. My guess is that the employee after learning about it contacted management and the appropriate steps were taken. As for your question, IF the store has a reason to call they can. In some cases not calling can make the store liable for what happens if they don't call. Edit: They are encouraged not to call if an employee is involved since management gets bonuses if a store is "accident free", and calling 911 if an employee is injured makes it harder for said employee to sue for damages.

It is. But it's happened to me too. Except I didn't get paid anything and got a pay CUT by $30/day for a month after I came back. I'd herniated a disc which pressed on my sciatic nerve and made it to where I couldn't walk. Now my boss did offer to call an ambulance and just give up her bonus (she was a nurse for 40 years) but I couldn't afford the ambulance so I called my mom (also a nurse) which is like an ambulance but with heated seats and better tunes. But yeah, work comp flat out told me they were not going to help me and if I knew what was good for me that I would take the L and pay out of pocket to get fixed up. I never got fixed up and just got worse. Insurance said that since I came to work disabled when they hired me that they saw no reason to help me out. It DOES happen. In the US it happens A LOT.

Retail isn’t the only place where workers are forbidden to call 911. My father worked at a manufacturing plant in the mid 1980s. He was having chest pains on his Saturday night shift. I received a call that he was”sick” and that I needed to come pick him up. He was in his mid fifties at the time and I was about forty-five minutes away by car. I got there and found he was actually having chest pain. The dumb bitch company nurse was only worried about him being picked up before the end of her shift. We went straight to the hospital.
