I have been off of social media for a while. I’m very happy without it. I can’t speak for anyone else, but it’s a waste of time. I found that it was breaking me down mentally and destroying relationships. I was way too preoccupied with what was on social media. My fear of missing out caused me to impulse buy. Life on social media is definitely curated. I’m so much happier without people in my business. I can make mistakes and grow without being scrutinized by strangers. Life is beautiful… ❤️

I came off social media nearly 4 years ago when I became a Mom as I wanted to be present for my son and really give him my everything. Just wanted to say to anyone who Is debating to come off or not, DO IT! Life is so much better without it, the first couple of weeks are hard, but once you have passed that, you'll see what I mean!

Same here, it's been 5 years. At first I had "fear of missing out" but honestly I've been able to slow down, spend quality time with my son, crush goals and save money. When I was on Instagram I was so worried about likes from ppl I rarely talk to lol.

Facts! I’ve truly been able to see the other side of this coin while dating, in which the other person isn’t on social media whatsoever and didn’t grow up with it . Definitely a breath of fresh air. Also I think just setting boundaries with yourself and the internet can really make it work for you and not against you.

Been without it for 2 years, What I’ve noticed, you start spending more time on yourself, bettering yourself, because you’re not spending all your free time on that, you just start developing different. Start working out 5 days a week, start getting better at your skills, and there is really no way you can be stopped, the Ski is the limit, and what I like the most, you completely stop caring about what others think. Highly recommended.

I'm 50+ and I must say you're ahead of the curve. Cambridge University did a study and advised communal outlet owners of the damage social media does to humans mental wellness. They even suggested, the owners allow only the curator of the post to see who "like" their pictures and comments… It cuts down on people comparing themselves to others. I closed my wall after I consistently met people who ONLINE didn't match their REAL-TIME! I truly believe social media is a danger to our mental health. Bonus: Whatever people brag and bolster about reveal what they're weakest about. -Ryan Holiday

I feel you. I'm concerned about how much I'm on the internet. Especially KZbin. Like, the moment I'm awake on KZbin. Before I go to bed, I'm on KZbin. There's no "if I'm not on KZbin if doing xy and z." I'm constantly on KZbin or some other social media app. I also get my news from independent sources on KZbin. So if I get rid of KZbin, I get rid of my access to those new sources.

Social media has made such an impact, as far as creating new social norms and re-shaping pop culture. A whole generation has been raised on it, and it's understandable how integrated it's become in people's lives (both professionally and personally) We've all had to adapt according, but we also must remember to watch our mental health, and take social media breaks as needed (or when possible if it's part of your work) I remember reading an article some years ago, saying that our minds are not wired to shift through emotions so abruptly. Example: scrolling through a feed, and going from seeing something heartbreaking, to then heartwarming in a matter of seconds... Great video! I found the topic very relatable (millennial here lol) We didn't have social media as kids, but it definitely had an impact on us as young adults.

I only have a ghost IG for business purposes & to see when my fav artists are dropping music and Tik Tok for only use it for when I need a break from life. KZbin is my main source since you can do so much on here and that's why I've had it the longest.

I also hate how some people are stalking me. I cleaned my feed and removed people who I'm not close with. I feel without it, I like many others wouldn’t have come to the realization that most things are curated and don’t show the whole picture. It kinda forced me to reflect. I still use it but I try to be mindful. Most things are mundane which is why people make others feel bad online for how they don’t live their life and so peoples job is to make their life entertaining
@onwardswegoforward3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the title! I went on a 7 month social media hiatus and my happiness with my general life increased. It was a mixture of factors--using the hours spent on social media developing other skills, not being bombarded with the what appeared to be really happy lives, etc--and when I recently came back, I noticed a slight increase in anxiety. I didn't even plan on taking that long of a break, but I'm extremely glad I did because it made me confront myself and my feelings towards social media. Social media can be a truly wonderful place if used with the right intentions. Like you mentioned, it's important to keep in mind that it's other people's highlight reels.

I have struggled with myself image and comparing my body specifically my skin, weight, hairness etc on social media but recently it has gotten much easier bc I have a separate acc where it’s just me following my hobbies and I hardly go on my actual acc bc I used to compare myself to the ppl in my life and now that I don’t see them it’s something not care about and I still follow my close family so nothing is missed and I honestly I’m so happy this way I catered my social media to things I wanna see. I can also understand how this can be hard when you have big following and need to post - i don’t post often- so yeah

While I may have deleted all of my accounts there except for Instagram and Snapchat because who knows if I want to come back there again to post but then again, my life used to be a lot less negative before social media so I stopped posting for a long time. I know there will be opinions like "you're missing out" or "don't ever get left out" but what is there to miss out and feel left out exactly? I love to say goodbye to modern life. I'll only use my phone to take pictures and use KZbin. I'll come back to Instagram if I ever start a family of my own and be like one of those parents that post 24/7 xD but yeah, at least, I get to learn more about myself and the world around me.
