I always just assumed she lived an easy and pampered life. Shows how little we actually know about people. I love how she says we don’t have to be a victim of our circumstance. Very inspirational! Just pre-ordered!

The difference between how she frames her story and how others talk about their horrible mothers- makes me want to buy the book. She does it with humility and humanity, and not just victimized hate. What growth. Love it!

@@TorieLives I think the original commenter Monique was saying that she loves how Minka does not victimize herself. You just contradicted your point ….first you said you should let people handle it their own way but then you said let them grow in their own way, which contradicts the first part of what you said. Handling it in their own way implies it’s their choice to either grow or not grow. Growth means not letting yourself be a victim. So you’re saying people should be allowed to victimize themselves but then grow in their own way …..which are inherently opposite, and so this makes not a lick of sense. Monique’s comment was spot on and there’s no judgment there.

It's a good read and I found myself feeling sorry for her except by the end of the book she keeps repeating the same mistake on who she hooks up with. Like now she is over 40 and is still going with rock stars. She needs to go after rich men over 55.

Wow, growing up with such a mother, I don't think many people understand how severely painful it is. Now that I know, I see it in her eyes and the way she moves and speaks. You carry that trauma from parenting with you even after you're "free" from toxic parents. It's hard because you get shunned by well-raised people, nobody explains things to you because they think you should've learned it at home, which you couldn't. You learn things about the social world VERY late. She says she only learned being available for friends late, those things people just know in high school for some reason and it's because they grew up in a better household. This is some really good stuff to share as a public figure, I wish there was something like this when I was still struggling hard. Being peaceful inside is never passive, always pro-active, for children who grew up in toxic households, especially under narcissistic parents who weren't really prepared to parent.

Omg. When she said she felt like she had to trick people into knowing she’s not a threat they don’t have to hurt her. Wow I have felt like that and I had a manager one time tell me I see the fire in your eyes there is a beast in there. And that was soo affirming and powerful. Good to know I’m not alone

Just stumbled across this, as I’m in a very deep sad pit of grief and darkness.😪😔😢 I recently loss my adopted mom and my late fathers passing anniversary is nearing along with Mother’s Day. So I’ve felt the weight of being parentless, lonesomeness the emptiness, if not the abandonment even more. 💔😢💔 To my own biological mother I don’t even exist it’s a very heavy weight of unbearable grief I feel and carry. I don’t hardly even want to be here, feeling very orphaned, and realizing how hard it is to be here parentless. My phenomenal adopted mom was the mom I never had her birthday also just passed along with the second Easter without her.💔😰l wish she did not have to go, this soon I hate this.💔🌏😥 #GriefHurts Never really heard of Minka but I appreciate her being so open and vulnerable in sharing story.😢❤️‍🩹😥 #Parentless

you go into denial, because if they die, i die. that's so true. my mom was chaos growing up too. and is still till this day still chaos in a lot of ways. i love her a lot, i dislike her a lot. my dad was my rock. and he just died. and i was in such denial and i suffer a lot now. now i only have my chaotic mother left and it's hard to accept that fact. I will definitely check out this book. It really means a lot that women like Minka, can share such stories. 💕

My sincerest condolences to you, @Zabina, on the loss of your beloved dad.💔 I feel you in the “suffering part” along with how you expressed your dad being your rock. I thank you for sharing a little openly. My beloved adopted mom was mine, whom sadly has recently a year ago passed.😪😔😥 Now parentless, having also loss my biological dad, I feel the deep sadness, painful sorrow and loss without any loving parent to talk to. Or have to love on me, and I on them, I feel very orphaned, the biological mother who abandoned me I don’t even exist to still till this day. It hurts and is heavy, every thing feels shattered in this thick layer of grief and lonesomeness of not isolation I feel. 😪😔😥 I don’t feel like I want to or belong here most often lately, my adopted mom was the mother I never hard…😥😞😢 #GriefHurts #Parentless💔🥀💔

Her book does a beautiful job at reviewing her childhood, forgiving those who wronged her and taking accountability for her future happiness. I think the culture (especially celebrity culture) celebrates victimhood, so it would've been easy for her to throw everyone else under the bus.

She seems lovely and she is beautiful. I just don’t like some comments saying she is better because she doesn’t victimized herself unlike others . As she said her mother was unconventional but fun . She was a victim of negligence because her mother was not an adult . However some others have lived different type of abuse and have the right to cope the way they want. It’s atrocious to say to somebody who was traumatized, physically, mentale and /or financially abuse , manipulate , put in a dangerous situation, exploited , molested , r*pe , and more by a parents to not be victim. It’s disgusting because they are and have the right unapologetic about the abusers.
