Investigating History’s 3rd grade unit on Peoples and Governments of Massachusetts: Past and Present explores the structure of town and city governments in Massachusetts as well as that of tribal governments of local Indigenous nations. In addition, the video discusses how educators can engage in local issues with their students and support them in taking action. Investigating History [www.doe.mass.e...] is a free and open-source curriculum for grades three through seven, developed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and aligned to the 2018 MA History/Social Science Framework. DESE envisions students in every Investigating History classroom engaged in asking and answering authentic, interesting questions that drive toward deeper, richer understanding of the past and the present.
