Sludge takes time to build up. Several years ago my then husband and I were living in a place where the pipes clogged up. The plumber told the landlord that it was initially caused by grease buildup and continued to build up sludge from there and that it had taken about ten years to build up to that point. The landlord got mad at us initially, blaming us for supposedly putting the grease down the drain. My then husband asked, "How long did it take for the blockage to build up?" And the answer was about 10 years. Then he asked, "And how long have we lived here?" The answer was 2 years. The landlord shut up when he realized that it was him and his wife that caused the buildup, since they had been living there for the previous 30 years before us.

The grease in the septic system sounds like did come from them staying there, but only if there’s proof that it didn’t have a buildup prior to them moving in. Even if there’s not a septic grease shouldn’t be allowed down drains. It can cause buildup in pipes that can lead to clogged pipes.

Some landlords just think that they could just keep all the money and never repair the property that they own rent out. This thing that you have down in US first and last months rent and security deposit on top of that that’s a lot of money to come up with a lot, because rent certainly aren’t coming down. We have up here is half months rent is the security deposit and when you move in on the first of the month, another thing which I find really weird that people could move in different dates in the month, we have it move in on the first and you’re out on the last day of the month before the first when you’re moving out. But we have it. Will you pay on the first of the first month and then on the last month that you’re there you pay on the first day of last month. Much much easier to keep tabs on whatever piece of your money goes to, but this coming up with the first the last months rent and, a security deposit it’s a lot to ask upfront.

Landlord has to provide clean water?
@mss6278 ай бұрын
All copper pipes have sediment in them that collects over the course of time. It usually lies along the inside surface of the pipe. A change in the composition of the water will cause the sediment to break free which leads to the brown water. Running the water through the pipes for a few hours flushes out the sediment which is probably why the water passed the purity test. I recommend taking any filters off of the faucets and letting the water run until it comes up clean. Afterwards you can reattach the filter. Also most water filters use carbon which would explain the black stuff on the filter. These filters need to be replaced regularly or the carbon will break down.

Nonsense! The tap water quality in the Netherlands is very high and most definitely very suitable for consumption! Heck: even the toilets use this same high quality tap water to flush with! 😮 (Which is actually a waste of money, that’s spent on all the filtering and cleaning of that water… then again: otherwise there needs to be a complete different system next to the existing one, so it’s not as simple as it might seem… 😉) BUT! I am of course also aware of the fact that there are MANY other places (including many tourist destinations!) in the world, where you indeed should NOT drink the tap water (not even use it to rinse your mouth with or to clean your vegetables, like for instance salad or tomatoes!!) The water in such areas/nations is grossly and disgustingly unsafe to consume, because it’s LOADED with all sorts of disgusting bacteria, bad chemicals, pure waste and lots of other (even toxic) substances… … and often a chlorine level that is insanely high, in a bad attempt to improve that terrible water quality… The chance you’ll get sick (*) from the tap water in those places is extremely high, leaving you with nasty intestinal problems, nausea, lots of belly pain and causing you to end up spending a whole lot of your holiday time on the toilet and in your bed!! And possibly even in a local hospital ! (*) Especially for tourists who are visiting such places, coming from a country where the tap water quality is very high and whose internal system is absolutely NOT used to such low quality tap water, making them even more susceptible to the resulting diarrhea, stomach infections and other health issues! It’s an unfortunate, but rather common occurrence, that people go on their long awaited vacation to these places and then get sick on their first or second day after their arrival and consequently spend the majority of their holiday in bed (and on the toilet!)… (‼️Especially the rinsing of the veggies, like when they eat a salad FROM THE BUFFET IN A RESTAURANT, is often NOT recognized as another risk, even though these people are actually very alert to not drink tap water or use it when they’re brushing their teeth!)

FYI on water.. Unless you live at the headwaters of a river or get well water.. Everyone drinks sewage water that has been treated and put back into the river.. But in many cases, that water is drinkable before it gets reintroduced back into the river.. Plus when a water plant pulls from the river, it also treats the water with a coagulant and other chemicals and it is filtered to purify the water.. If you are getting brown water, that happens in old clay pipes and iron pies.. Well water many times has a lot of sediment from the well sucking up sand/soil..
@mickm63098 ай бұрын
People don't think of that, we have a large sewage farm near us, it was announced that the treated water was going to be used on the market gardens and there was a big uproar. The water from the sewage farm was proven to be drinkable, but no one wanted toilet water on their vegetables.

Honestly I don't think the landlord is completely scummy. My family immigrated to the US in 1990. We lived in an apartment and didn't k own the curtain was supposed to be on the inside. In Asia, the entire bathroom is like a shower. Also the grease is definitely more of a foreigner thing. I have been to my white friends' homes and their kitchen are immaculate bc they don't cook much if anything. Lastly, I can say this bc I am an Asian. Not a lot of Asian are handy or know to do regular maintenance on homes. Of course, we, the younger generation do know, but my parents, unless they have money to hire people don't do regular maintenance around the house. Maybe this landlord is trying to nitpick but I have to admit, the places my parents have lived were not kept up. I have had to do these type of translation, taking care of business type of stuff for them. I hated doing it but I knew how to make a legal argument at a young age. Haha.
