I used the same mechanic for 28 years. His shop was 3 miles from my office but I lived 22 miles west of the city. He was always great and stood by his work. One day my daughters best friend's dad had his auto shop in our town where we lived. So I took my truck to him and he said it would be $600. Then the price kept going up and I spent $3,000 with him. Never again he was a crook. I felt like I was running around on my mechanic. I told him what happened he laughed and said, just bring it in. He took care of my wife's cars, my trucks, my 2 children's cars over the years and WAS always timely and fair. He even would sometimes on something large like a transmission or engine let me order it have it sent to his shop and he'd put it in and STILL stood by it. This plaintiff was a crook in my opinion.

He ordered the parts online. I have myself received parts after ordering online, and have the wrong part in the correct box. The answer is because when someone returns an item it doesn’t get checked to make sure it’s the correct item in the box being returned. And by the way, the dealership will absolutely lie to you. They want you to come to them for all your service and repair needs. And running down the previous mechanic is one of their favorite go to’s.
@missa1goinsКүн бұрын
@bishop7276, dealerships will absolutely lie, I had my brakes and rotors done by a shop, heard noises from the brakes a few months later, took it to the dealership to see if the brakes and rotors were actually replaced, dealership said no they had not been replaced. I asked the shop to prove to me they were replaced and they did took everything off and showed me the brand was different from the mopar that was originally on.

These days, the computers in the cars can detect "third-party" parts and reject them, even if they're working perfectly. One more way the Dealers make you go to them (and pay a premium price) to repair your car.

Good call. I would never work on someone's vehicle that purchased the parts elsewhere and wanted to pay just for the labor. There's absolute junk in the aftermarket business and there's quality stuff. If you're paying $50 from somewhere and $200 somewhere else, it's not the same quality, otherwise whoever was selling the part for $200 would be out of business. Most people are trying to get the vehicle fixed as cheap as possible, not thinking of the long term. The plaintiff is typical of the nightmare customer who's tire you repaired and he comes back for the next three years wanting you to pay for his blown engine, slipping tranmission and broken AC because you worked on it last.
@GrayDaddy0122 сағат бұрын
What if they work where you're getting the parts from and can get those parts cheaper than you can using their discount?
@JamesPerk-h3n16 сағат бұрын
@@GrayDaddy01 Then they would know what was a quality part and what wasn't. When you go to the parts store, most often they carry various brands of the same part. Some are lower end quality and it escalates to the best quality. If your car has 200K miles on it and you're getting a new one in six months, you don't need brake pads that are the best and most expensive.

The plaintiff bought aftermarket cat-converters which usually don't work well with cars like Honda and Toyota. Once he found out he needed OEM parts, he tried blaming the mechanic to get his money back. I'm sure his check engine light came back on because the aftermarket cats were not as efficient as the OEM one's. Been there done that.
@billyhndrsn4542Күн бұрын
Is it something to do with aftermarket convertors use different metals that do not get as hot internally for the emissions system to function as factory supplied OEM parts, which sends the O2 sensors intp a tizzy of codes.

Aftermarket catalytic converters are the biggest pieces of garbage ever. My own personal experience is that about 50% just won't do enough to keep the check engine light off or at least for more than a very short period.

Real CC’s are made with titanium that’s why they get stolen so much. After market is usually an alloy

it'll work if your cat was clogged and you need to get your car back on the road but it absolutely will not keep your check engine light off
@1967davethewave7 сағат бұрын
@@timothymundy966 That's the truth. I tried using them when they first came to market years ago and they would restore the exhaust flow. In a state like Missouri that was good enough, the cat only has to be in place to pass inspection (except in St. Louis that has an actual emission inspection), it doesn't have to actually function and check engine lights won't keep it from passing the regular state inspection. But I stopped and will only use O.E. stuff anymore and WOW are they proud of them!

@rum1105Күн бұрын
The problem is if you bring in your own parts most mechanics won’t guarantee the work. If you buy after market parts the cost is on you if the part fails or doesn’t fit your exact car. But if you allow the mechanics to pick the parts then they have to more or less “insure” the part. And if something goes wrong with that exact repair then they are responsible.
@1967davethewaveКүн бұрын
You are absolutely 100% wrong. First of all, never EVER use an aftermarket catalytic converter. They only work about 50% of the time. Catalytic converters have precious metal in them to make them work. That is why they get stolen so often, they are worth quick money at a recycler unless they are aftermarket. A recycler will not buy an aftermarket cat at all, they just say not interested. As far as other parts, I have worked as a mechanic for about 39 year now and the aftermarket has gotten worse every year in quality. I estimate about 10% of new aftermarket parts are defective right out of the box. If you budget shop closer to 40% of those really cheap Ebay parts are defective. They rely on the very low price plus the work to have to prove the part was defective, they usually require a shop to verify it, to stay in business. As a guy who owned a shop for 15 years I refused to let customers supply their own parts unless they signed a statement saying they understood that there was ZERO warranty for the reasons I stated.

Most reputable mechanics will not install parts you ordered and give to them. This includes car dealerships. They will only install parts that they buy. The plaintiff is desperate to save some money and thinks he can save himself some money by buying the parts himself and then getting the mechanic to install the parts. Find a competent mechanic and pay him to do his job right. That is the cheapest way.
