A Smelly Situation

The plaintiffs are a father and son. The son rented an apartment from the defendant, but the defendant had a problem with the plaintiff’s pet ferret. He had to move out, so he’s suing for the cost of the security deposit and a listing fee. The defendant argues the plaintiff never told him about the ferret and he had an allergic reaction to it. He says the animal stunk up their apartment.

I had a woman living with me who had two ferrets. They actually were not smelly at all. I think some of the odor-releasing glands might have been removed, also, she bathed them, which they didn't mind. These ferrets were box trained-- they used the same litter boxes as my cats. The ferrets and the cats got along famously, playing all day long. They were among the sweetest animals I have ever met. Ferrets are getting a bad rap here. I'm not sure if this young man knows how to take care of them properly.

Most if not all ferrets in the states are descented, we have one in a small apartment and you definitely can't smell him across the house, only the bedding he uses often gets smelly, and that's only like a frito/corn chip type smell, wet/dirty dogs smell way worse imo.

I own a ferret and you'd never know - I get visitors who are shocked when they find out I have a ferret for the first time due to juts bathing and cleaning their boxes - it's no different than a cat; if you don't clean the litter boxes, then yeah, there's gonna be an odor, lmao.

I've had 2 ferrets. You need to bathe them very regularly...not once a year lol. Twice a week.... and clean out their enclosure regularly. You can wash the stink off them and if they are well domesticated, they won't release their scent glands through fright or alarm, but the stench of their poop is awful. That said, they always potty in the same corner, so cleaning out their area is easy. Female ferrets will die if not desexed due to oestrus issues.

If I may share, when some people have allergies they are more sensitive to the scent. I have allergies to shellfish and I can smell it before seeing it- so perhaps this was because he is so sensitive. It is hard to imagine this young man would intentionally mistreat his pet.

Ferrets are very stinky. They use their scent as a defense mechanism toward other prey. You can get their scent glands removed but it's expensive. If you keep them indoors, you have to clean the cage every single day. Their urine and poop is very concentrated. 😢 They are great pets but you have to give them a lot of attention.

It could have been raped (which happens in the military more then reported, read some news from the last year and you will see multiple rapes talked about), he could have been shot by accident, He could have had his dream of military service crushed from something. My mother was shot in the head in front of me on new years day... I was eight and stood over her as she's gasped for air, stared into her eyes as they became still and lifeless. And then I was swept under the rug and forgot about.... but I never could forget. It bothers me when people claim ptsd over mild trauma. Discomfort is part of life you don't have ptsd unless your life is dominated by fear, paranoia, sadness, anger, stress, lack of sleep lack of trust lack of connection lack of peace constant hyper vigilance. Nightmares, negative thinking, intrusive thought, problems with men, authority, cars, people, sounds, guns. Constant flight or fight. Survival mode, obsessive compulsive, agoraphobia, crazy eyes, bad vibes, and never feeling safe only being comfortable alone sleeping with a knife, hammer and machete beside the bed. And I haven't even had breakfast yet. This guy doesn't have ptsd just because he got picked on in military training (what was he thinking!?) He wasn't shot down in Vietnam, hes just weasely like his ferret. But yeah I have mommy issues that's why I watch Marilyn Millan... spank me. It makes me feel safe and under control... comedy is a remedy for tragedy. Don't get swallowed by despair. Life is sadly unfair.

I had a tenant that had three ferrets, when they moved out I couldn't even go in the apartment it was so disgusting. They let the ferret piss and shit all over the house. It was horrendous. So ferrets are disgusting

You should NEVER own just a single ferret. Ferrets also need to be out with and INTERACTED with a minimum of 5 hours a day.

I thought Ferrets have a slight musky smell...but not like bad. They are clean animals so I dont get what this dude is talking about
