In the Netherlands we put rubber under the counterweights. It's more friction than the wood. And we chain it the rear and sides. The driver was lucky. Nice job.

20,000 lb counter weight with just 2 small chains?? That explains why it fell off the truck. Thank God it fell off there and not into traffic!! Good job with the simple/not simple save!! The beauty of the remote controls, you can operate the truck without being able to see the truck itself.
@PepesTowingService3 жыл бұрын
Correct, two small horizontal supports but no vertical! As to operating the truck without seeing it, that's the beauty of knowing the ins and outs 100% of your truck. I know damn well Hulk could lift that much off the side at that distance, and with my platform set up I knew I wouldn't have to monitor it. Still, I would be able to "feel" it or see the boom in case it was having issues.

We are "used to it", although we definitely can be more cautious. But if you think about it, you can literally die just sitting in your home from a multitude of stuff. This job is dangerous no matter how many precautions you think you can take.

You got me in this video, full center at 20:48 !! 😂 I drove by this recovery and from a distance saw the boom on the other side. Immediately thought 'This is crazy, feels like a Pepe's Tow" and then saw a guy in orange standing on the trailer, thought "this body, shape, height, gotta be Dave, no doubt". Where am I? in the silver Dodge Van (classy car for a guy, right) in full frame as you pan the camera, perfectly following me down the freeway. 👍

How in the heck did that weight flop off of his flatbed as heavy as it is, geez man! Josh's enthusiasm never gets old .. I just can never get it in my head that those straps can lift that much weight.
@PepesTowingService3 жыл бұрын
Straps are commonly used in the construction field by cranes a magnitude bigger than Hulk. A big 5/8" Grade 10 chain has a working load limit of just under 25,000lbs, and weighs a ton. Technology is amazing, isn't it?
@timothygeiger4373 жыл бұрын
I do flatbed, I secure equipment all the time. You can't always use straps, but many loads you can. The straps I have actually have a higher working load limit than the chains I have. The reason we use chains with some loads, the steel chain doesn't stretch, & metal against metal creates a "friction" which stops forward & rear movement. Obviously some loads like skidsteer loaders & similar must use chains. Straps are much lighter & alot faster to use though. Scientifically nylon is stronger than steel, which is why the straps have a higher working load limit!
