I'm 59 years old. My first vehicle was a 1972 F100! I bought it when I was 15 from my farmer boss. I learned how to work on cars with that truck. I had cab mounts installed by a local welder and repainted by a local body guy. I fixed the floors myself and painted the rims. I loved that truck. It was red with a 302. It also was a three on the tree brought down to the floor. This truck brings back lots of memories!

I understand sanding. Did a restoration/build on a 1947, 45’ wooden sailboat. We also use bondo and faring to make the boat look fiberglass. Didn’t want to have to recalk the seams every year. 6 coats sealer, 3 coats of barrier cover to keep the parasites out of the wood, 2 primer coats, and 2 finish coats. Sanding between each coat. Boat is going around the world.

I agree with painting the factory wheels as opposed to getting new aftermarket wheels, the quality of the factory wheels is way better, and they turned out great.

Absoltively. When I was 20-something, I thought everything had to have coolistic aftermarket wheels, but after decades of dealing with them on the side of the road, now I hate 'em.

Definitely not. Those wheels are so rotten. They are over 40 years old.

Ford used the same style steel wheel for over 50 years too. I put 16x7 wheels off a 1994 E350 on my 1969 F250. Factory dog dish hubcaps went right on. No better look, in my opinion.

…and, if you need to take her through some gritty, rutty forest road dip to the secret fishing hole: just pop off & save on the fancy caps, and she’ll torque right thru the sloppy, just ‘looking the business’ with the git ‘r done factory white rims… I’m definitely down with the bone-stock steelies straight from ‘seventy-eight’ 😊

Been following a feller since the beginning. Love all the revivals and projects, but this is by far the best payoff EVER. This truck would haven new in my senior year of HS. I worked at an Amoco gas station right next-door to the Ford dealer so I saw them on the lot every day. Warms a guy's heart, and... I'm a die hard MOPAR guy!

I love that truck! Where I was a teenager, I had a Turquoise blue 1970 Ranger XLT with a 302 and a 3 on the tree. Now, in my old age, I might look for one to fix up and paint turquoise as a work truck. Thanks for this wonderful series! Wow. I just checked and found one that I'd have to dig out of the dirt for eight grand. Maybe I'll just look for another resto video:)

There’s something to be said about the wheel choice.. you nailed it. Great job Derek! You maintained the look and too many times a wheel upgrade goes the wrong way and just never really looks right..

I love the truck reveal! I remember growing up with my dad's 73 Ford truck, camper special, was a daily driver until he sold it in the early 2000s. I bought some more Vice Grip gear for additional entries, I hope I win it, but will be happy to wherever it goes to. Thank you for the great videos Darrel!

My mom totaled my Pontiac(she was fine) so at 20 YO I ordered my first new vehicle- a 1977 F250, 300 six, 4spd . Took a few years to do it but I added an Offy manifold and 400 cfm Carter and headers. Also ran this six with a Fish carb. Loved that truck.

I had 2 f-150 pickups. One was the '78 with the blue on blue, that interior looks like my truck. Then an '84 standard with the 4 speed and a 300 straight 6. You captured both my trucks in one. Fantastic! Even my wife said "Neat".
