Beautiful scenery. What a nice area by the bridge abutment-great camera work. You could make a calendar with all of the nature scenes you have captured.

In 1993 I moved from Western Oklahoma to South Eastern Pennsylvania. Pequea Creek Campground became one of my favorite places to go. I used to hike that path all the time. I had no idea of the history of the path that it had been a trolley line. I have a lot of good memories of that area. I'm no longer in Pennsylvania and hope to someday go back to visit. One time as I was walking along the creek, I saw a bottle start to flow up stream. I was surprised until I saw a kid with a fishing pole and the bottle was tied to the fishing line and he started to reel it up stream. He had a good laugh! So did I!

I've lived in the area all my life. Pequea is pronounced peck way. Water looks pretty low, and there have been multiple injuries, drowning etc. It's a tough place to be evacuated from by rescuers! That's why all the signs. So many of the places I used to party at as a youngster are conservancy properties now. The parking area at the cement bridge belonged to the Martic Forge Hotel which burned down in the 90's. One of these days I'm bound to run into you, Cliff!
Nice hike and a beautiful creek. Thank you for sharing!

It was popular in the teens and 20's of the 1900's for people from Lancaster City to take the trolley to Millersville and transfer to the trolley for Pequea to go to the dance hall there. My Grandmother and I latter found out my wife's grandmother used to go to the dances.

Beautiful WW! My old stompin grounds and I jumped off some of those rocks. Stopped going there because it became a trashy beer can littered party place. I have been hiking there in later years and it is in muchbl better shape than years past. People from Lancaster ridig the trolly would bring their trash to throw down a steep hill. Back in the 60s-early 70s we'd go bottle digging at old dumps along the old line. Long gone now with floods. Human life can be traced back 15,000 years so the chances of finding artifacts are good but well picked over. Thanks Kindly WW! Peace and clownless hikes. DaveyJO

Yeah, those signs have been up since I was young, I'm 51. We swam at Suzie's hole all the time. At the rock where you found beer is an offering for a lost friend. But not many people got hurt in my day. Insurance reasons the signs went up

Hi Cliff, what a wonderful area, so many beautiful natural places in PA you are very lucky. I think you meant 20th Century as the 19th Century was the 1800's, no matter it's still great to imagine what it would have been like to ride a trolley along there and watch the World go by. A very lovely, peaceful and relaxing video, thanks for sharing. x

This was one of my favorite places as a kid. We used to hike this several times a year. I had no idea that it was the old trolley bed, which is pretty funny since my father wrote books about trolleys. That bridge was washed downstream in Hurricane Agnes. They had to pick it up with a crane and truck it back to its site, after which they restored it. I don't have time to watch the whole thing right now. I'll have to come back later and finish it.

We used to have to cross that little gorge on a single log. There was no sign of bridge abutments back then either. My mother nearly got taken down by a couple of Dobermans once, when she fell there on the edge of the gorge and two dogs who were hiking with their owners went for her. Had my stepfather not had a thick stick in hand, they would have had her.
@thirzapeevey23955 жыл бұрын
There were Muscovy ducks along there when I was a kid too. They may just have gone wild in that area. Thanks for doing that video. That was so incredibly nostalgic for me. You just took me back 45 years watching this. Much water has gone under the bridge since then. If you check out the facebook group, "the Lancastrian" someone posted something about the Pequea trolley on there some weeks back, but it never dawned on me that it was this trail. It was just called the PP&L trail when I was a kid.

Standing is sitting there with the car running. So basically you can't have a car right there whether its on or off, if a person is in it or not.
@olivei24845 жыл бұрын
Im glad you clarrified that. That's an old school term.
@Kurumifan155 жыл бұрын
7rippster7 I almost cracked up when he thought no standing meant you couldn’t physically stand there. I thought it was common knowledge that it referred to sitting in your car.
@thomaskipphorn47295 жыл бұрын
At about 9:00, depending on how far upstream you are from the covered bridge, there was a creamery on the other side. The stonework is probably part of that. Try this link on the Pequea Trolley. About half way down is a photo of the creamery and bridge. Also, there was a large dam across the creek, the ends that are probably what you think are bridge abutments. This was farther upstream, off the right side of the photo. unchartedlancaster.com/2019/04/11/100-years-ago-lancasters-trolleys-transported-12-million-people-annually-today-almost-all-signs-are-gone-join-the-search-for-the-lost-pequea-trolley/

I went tubing in the pequea creek and had to get out and walk on that trail to avoid Susie’s hole. The kayakers behind us decided to go through, both of them flipped. Definitely not a safe place to be in the water
@R.C.11615 жыл бұрын
I think, standing refers to vehicles that are stopped. No loading or unloading items or equipment, you can stop and wait as long as the driver remains behind the wheel, for the loading and unloading of passengers. If none of that makes any sense, keep moving!
@longtrail22675 жыл бұрын
No standing is the same thing as no hanging around and it’s owed by ppl if you walk the hole way to the end there was a local bar that burned down lots of parties went on and swimming parties

I'm definitely of the opposite camp on this. Sadly though KZbin is about getting your face out there and mugging for the camera as much as possible seems to be one of those things that isn't going to go away. It's on the same level as having an extended intro and outro that take forever to go by and shilling for likes, subs and so on or dedicating a whole section of a video to advertising for X or Y 'sponsor'. When I watch a video I wanna see the subject of the video (nature, etc) more than I see the smiling countenance of the channel owner.

@@HikeForLife23 It's not weird to want to see the subject of the video more than the person who shot the video. You don't watch a TV show or movie to stare at the director for half of the thing. You wanna see the movie or TV show. Same thing applies here.

I remember singing this land was made for you and me They dont sing that anymore. Who said they can own w.e. they want. Wish people would wake up. Its for us all. Animals too. As caves covered for our safety. Oh please. Then allow someone professional amd papers saying if I get hurt die nobody can sue etc. And allow us to see our land. Now a discharge site into protected wetlands. Go figure. Go state. Sick. Oh wanna watch videos alllllll day well now night. Peaceful entertaining and so my thing. "No standing" does not mean that you can't stand there. Please use Google. As someone else observed, this must have been a great trolley ride.
