What a beautiful day for a hike. I loved the way the sun laid a patchwork of light on the forest floor. Just perfect.

Hi Cliff, what a lovely location, I love that it is natural rather than planted. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖

Hi Cliff, enjoyed everything about this nature reserve, love to hear the beautiful bird songs even the one that's giving you a ticking off. Learn so much about nature from you, it's almost like I haven't been awake when walking through woodlands before, now I notice lol Take care xxxxx

Sometimes these nature preserves are just as or MORE awesome than some of the state parks!

Used to fish at Windolph Landing. Some nice Smallies and walleye in there.

When I was a kid in Lancaster I think we called that stinging nettle "burn hazel." Conestoga creek was completely lined with that nasty stuff when we went fishing.

We built up our immune system by doing that, that's why we are not sick today. The bugs of today don't stand a chance in our bodies. I used the Schuylkill.

Windolph Landing is at the location of the second lock on the Conestoga Canal. The lock is on the other side of the river on the upstream side of Second Lock Road. At one time the longest covered bridge in Pennsylvania crossed the river here. It was 325 feet long. It was burnt down in an arson in I believe 1967. Sad as I used to play on and under that bridge all the time.

Just the other day while hiking, I heard a noise above me and I said to my son “that’s a squirrel, I hope he don’t drop on my head”. He said “squirrels don’t fall out of trees”. Just then, the squirrel fell out of the tree and just missed my head by inches. He hit the ground very hard. The squirrel shook his head a few time and ran away fast. I was so upset I didn’t get that on tape.

Well that hike was very informative Cliff, I also happen to have one Catalpa tree on my property but Never knew the name of it till now. "Thank you" It's in the back between myself and the golf Corse but on my property. I looked it up B 4 posting here and found some interesting facts. I'll let others that see my post look for themselves if interested. I also have about 12 Ash trees. Too bad the Emerald Ash Tree borer killed them all. I had 7 cut down this year that were close to the house. The other 5 I'll have cut down in the fall. The ruins were cool too, looks like we had some folks with stone foundation cabins living there back in the day.
