“That was a common word then … To not have it in the text-say to do what someone tried to do-republish “Huck Finn” with the word ‘slave’ replacing that particular, unfortunate word is to try to clean up American history. The word belongs there because it was there. What education does is it allows us to see what the word represents, what it means about America, what it means about the culture’s attitudes towards an underclass at that time. It is much better to have it there and to educate people than to remove it and have them be ignorant." - Percival Everett

That is an exceptional inciteful analysis in this day and age.

It is "inciteful" because he is inciting white supremacy by publicly endorsing the use of the [fourteenth-letter-of-the-alphabet] word by a dead white guy who did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to advance trans rights!

1:35 “The word belongs there because it was there.” That view is correct for Twain, and it’s correct for authors of today. You, my friends, are doing the work of infantilizing black people. Life hurts. Pretending that it doesn’t is devastatingly destructive. We already progressed beyond that type of nonsense in the west until you came along and decided to let your hatred off its chain. Good job.

So you're saying you enjoy using the [fourteenth-letter-of-the-alphabet] word?

Do you know how many times the n-word has been used in Rap Music? Thanks to A1 searches of all published Rap Music works, we know that the n-word appears more than 2 million times. So, before any further critique of genuine artistic works, such as Huckleberry Finn's use of the n-word, demand that all Rap Music artists go back and change the n-word to "slave." Okay?
