You were pretty accurate about why Alecto/Mrs. Dodds came back, actually; the Furies are servants of Hades… And in PJO lore, monsters periodically resurrect after death, which is why Medusa came back after the original Perseus killed her; the Furies have the help of their master so Alecto came back pretty fast.
@larseich57969 ай бұрын
Medusas "ability" is 100% passive. She has no control over who she petifies. Every person, who looks at her face turns to stone. Even looking at an image of her face is very unsettling. All of that is consistent with the myth. In mythology Athena put it (the image) on her shield to frighten the enemy.

They were vague about how consensual Medusa’s “relationship” with Poseidon was in this series, but it’s probably for the best; it’s possible that he’s changed for the better and wouldn’t have been the worst now as opposed to the. Or it’s a matter of perspective - maybe he didn’t force her, but from her perspective he put her in the crosshairs of his and Athena’s feud by first not considering what could happen, and then didn’t defend her afterwards… Sally Jackson notably didn’t say that Medusa was NOT a villain, but she prompted her son to question the details; the mythical Perseus originally killed her precisely to save his own mother, not out of glory-seeking. While Sally’s own experience wasn’t bad she at least recognised there’s more to things than you might know; that, and it’s important to not see the world as simple.

medusas myth has many variations depending on the politics of the writer. This version is carefully ambiguous, you can totally see how medusa neutrally presents poseidons actions from her own perspective AT THE TIME, leaving open the implication that she has since come to recognize what he did as taking advantage of her vulnerable state as a result of her unrequited love for athena. You can always count on the black sails writers to cook

As a newer book reader. (I’m on book 4 so far) I really love the character driven action this is taking, then if it followed the action packed tales of the books. If you want back to back action, read the books. They are written for a reason. This is a new take on the series and I love it.
@aricaj.30069 ай бұрын
Medusa had some really great lines in this episode. "We all choose who we make our monsters" and "We are not our parents until we choose to be." They both tie heavily into the theme of family dynamics and generational trauma that show is going for so I thought that was clever writing there since her characterization here is a bit of a departure from the books. Glad to see you're enjoying the series and that you're liking Percy's personality haha. I've seen some complaints that Walker Scobell doesn't have as much personality as Logan Lerman, and while I did like Logan Lerman as Percy I think that the way Walker delievers the sarcasm/sassiness is just different, not bad. He's more deadpan than Logan's version but I think it's hilarious, especially for a kid who has been through a lot and at this point is still pretty lost and confused. His line delivery has made me cackle out loud ("You fell in love with God? Like JESUS?" took me out in the first episode 😂) and the way he nails the microexpressions on his face is great too
@nicolaashamman62019 ай бұрын
Not only do I really like the smash cut jokes, they're straight from the books too! In the books, they were comedic line breaks. Just another detail about how the books flow that smoothly transitioned to show screen.

I mean...they kind of made her more powerful in this...that you have to make her completely invisible to kill her If you catch so much as a glimpse at her with the snake hair, you're dead She also said 'Athena declared that I would never seen again by anyone who lived to tell the tale'
@muhammadfaisal5Y59 ай бұрын
Her snake hair is tied back and is not covered by the hat. I think they need to see her eyes to turn to stone but they would avoid seeing her hair too because then it is easier to see her eyes.

Fair, isn't it ? 😀 Maïa is the name of Hermes'mother and password for the flying shoes. Satyres are looking for demi-gods in the world and when they find one they take them to camp. 6:16 - Nice, you understood the humour in the transition 🙂 I find this kind of transitions so funny. I love seeing your theories on the prophecy, I'll be interested to see how your guesses change as more is revealed! To answer some of your questions: - That was the oracle of Delphi, like from myths. The one who used to hand down prophecies. For reasons she currently looks like a 100 year old mummy, though. So she can't really talk, instead her prophecies come out as green mist and take on a form of someone you know. And it settled on Percy's step-dad. - I don't know about for others but a "flock" of Pegasi sounds better than a "herd" of Pegasi to me. - This Medusa told us the correct story. In mythos she was seduced by Poseidon in Athena's temple and cursed by Athena due to the insult (how dare, in HER temple?!) Some argue that Medusa wasn't even seduced, Posiedon was just a god who wanted her and so had her. So this could arguably be a cleaner version to not make Percy's dad out as an irredeamable villain. - They turned her invisible so they could look at her. Medusa would have not known she's invisible, would have been shocked Percy didn't turn to stone, and would have been easy pickings for a beheading. Glad you like Percy's sass, since you'll be getting a lot of it going foreward 😂

So the oracle presentation in the book is still a super old body and in the first book it presents the prophecy through the face and voices of people percy knew from his life (teacher, mom, stepdad.) The show simplified into just stepdad but its essentialy the oracle trying to give the message in a format percy would be familiar with.

The Oracle has her own cabin, she is not in Poseidon's cabin. The reason Percy saw the Oracle as his step-father since the Oracle showed him the most recognizable person he knows as not to scare him. The story behind Medusa is that she was a worshipper of Athena, a vestal virgin. Poseidon raped her in Athena's temple so Athena punished her instead of Poseidon and made her the monster she is. This is what she meant when she said "I'm a survivor" in response to Percy's question.

Actually, the Oracle showed him Gabe because it has a sense of humor and knew that it would annoy Percy. In the book, the Oracle is in the attic of the Big House.

Well, in the book Medusa part was more straight to action (like Uma Thurman in the movie - and equally silly), than this previous soap opera drama... But it works better this way in fact (the action part did not change). The problem in my "book reader" pointview is that this "drama" part that they are adding are eating a good part of the action events. I mean, the book by itself its build by a sequence of events described in its narrative. It did not explore characters woes and emotionals perspectives. The narrative is anchored on Percy Jackson impressions that are feeble to a teen with atention problems. He don't understand a lot of things, but he doesn''t keep nagging about it. He is more like "Well, I don't get, but OK lets do it, why not..." and action! At this the series gives an "emo" perspective of stuffs. Again, it's not bad! It's kind of cool! But have this "lack" of action event.
