The Percy Jackson series has always been my favourite interpretation of Hades. Most series' just conclude "We'll he's the greek version of Satan so he must be evil as shit" and have him want to conquer the world or something. But in reality Hades is actually supposed to be super content in the underworld and doesn't really care about what happens outside of his domain, and why should he? He governs the dead, and everyone will end up in his realm eventually
@FlyingwithFire10 ай бұрын
Percy Jackon hades in the books was hardly content, he is bitter and brooding because of reasons he is endlessly annoyed by the ammount of work he has to do

@@FlyingwithFire He is bitter and broody because he is actually kinda chill but everyone treats him like the devil lol that and the endless paper work since the underworld theoretically has way more people than the entire planet so just imagine the amount of burocracy. @@gabrieldossantos1116 He also specifically dislikes Percy because Zeus and Poseidon gave him shit for not sending his kids to Camp Half Blood when they made the vow not have more children, to the point where they tried to have the kids killed and actually did kill their mother. So you can see why Hades would be a tad pissed that when Zeus and Poseidon break their vows, suddenly their children must be protected. Generally speaking, the reason Hades is bitter is because he's been treated like shit by his relatives.

I always prefer the Jim Butcher version, where he is basically the only Greek gods that cares about his job, and it's basically what he is doing even in most mythological depiction. The only 'bad' thing associate with him is the thing with Persephone. And that's just angry mother-in-law bad mouthing him because she disapprove of their relationship.

I found this version of Hades pretty accurate. He's done with all the random stuff with his brothers, and a bargaining man. Which is why he didn't give a crap about the bolt, he just wanted what was his returnee, and he'd give Percy his mom back. As he said, "quid pro quo"
@borjankosarac364510 ай бұрын
Too bad they omitted his rant about how much the bureaucracy of his realm (paperwork, constantly having to expand for new residents) is enough of a headache without the throne of Olympus. Just because it’s both funny and characterising of him as above (most of) his family’s petty squabbles, especially Zeus the tantrum-throwing brat of a younger (youngest? I don’t remember if Hades or Poseidon was the eldest brother in PJ-verse, but it’s inconsistent even in the canon…) brother. Ah, well; I still really like him. And I know Rick Riordan was involved so it’s a given, but… it’s still kind of surreal that ANY Disney-distributed project would actually depict Hades as he actually was in the myths - not popular and distrusted by mortals, but pretty laid back overall.

Kronos (Father Time, Saturn, Grim Reaper) is associated with sand because it is found in time turners. Kronos in pieces represents the division of time in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years. Kronos eats his children just as time eats away our lives. When I was first reading I remember that I wasn't actually very sold on the story until the whole Hades thing happened right by the end. I've never personally liked most interpretations of Hades as a villain (except Hercules, that Hades is fire) because he was literally the most chill and least problematic out of all greek gods. Hades having nothing to do with the Master Bolt but getting framed because even the other gods and demigods were weary of him was the most impressive plot twist ever for little kid me lol

It’s confounding how the movies looked at the book with its clever twist, and decided, “Nah we’re just gonna do the Hollywood thing”… And between that and the next film they made a Surprised Pikachu face when fans hated it. Yeah, Disney’s “Hercules” is so audaciously it’s own thing that I just don’t mind at that point, even if it’s a terrible representative of the myths (except the self-fulfilling prophecy part, that’s so Greek…) And while I don’t care for James Woods as a person, the fact he made the character unique as opposed to a bog-standard villain (it was him who went the “sleazy car salesman” characterization) and to this day is passionate enough to reprise the role WHENEVER he’s asked, is something I absolutely respect about him as a performer and artist… Ah; I miss the truly great Disney villains.

Chiron only do "house calls" as they called it or only shows up in person if the demigod is truly special and powerful. So to answer your question, stayrs are usually sent to schools on a scouting mission to find new demigods and chiron only shows up when a powerful or special demigod is spotted/found by the satyrs. The same reason why grover was the same satyr who found thalia. When grover found thalia and found out that she is a daughter of zeus he got strict orders to camp immediately. Mild spoilers for the rest of the book As a kid, I loved the reveal that Hades wasn't the villain. I wasn't really into Greek mythology, and from pop culture, I "knew" that Hades is supposed to be the bad guy, so I didn't even question it while reading. The fact that Rick subverts this and portrays Hades much closer to his usual interpretations in myths worked on so many levels, not to mention the scene where it happens is written so well

I rarely like adaptations for books I love, so I'm kind of in the middle on this one. I don't love it but I certainly don't hate it either, it's just kind of fine, to me, but like I said I'm a harsh judge. I still hope it does really well and they make all 5 seasons. It also might grow on me, the HP movies did. (Plus I thought they got better, and this show could too.)

This reaction released later than usual for me, it's almost midnight after watching the video. "we take a Zebra to Vegas" is the title of last weeks episode. Where did you get riding from? lol The design of the underworld is incredible, it's so dark and creepy. The music is fantastic, the acting is on point, Cerberus is very cool. An almost perfect episode. I just wish Hades was more menacing. He doesn't have that Godly presence. Also, did not expect to see Poseidon this episode, that was a good surprise. I love Toby Stephen already as the God of the Seas. I haven't watched Black Sails yet (it's on my list), I did watch Lost In Space and loved him in it. Oh Aaron, if only you knew. I have an idea of what Annabeth's regret might be but I'm not sure. Maybe she'll say what it is next episode. Speaking of which, I can't believe next week is the season finale. It makes me sad just thinking about it. 8 episodes is not enough, that's for sure. The conversation about Cerberus' poop LMAO PS: To Janci: You're only mad because you know, like me, what is coming. Don't worry, we'll see it next episode. I don't know if the show is gonna cover it, but in the book, I think Chiron and Grover were at Yancy for a year.

@WarGrowlmon1810 ай бұрын
It's Luke. He has a lot of anger and bitterness towards the gods, his father in particular and Kronos took advantage of that. Luke and Kronos are the main antagonists of the first five books. In the book, Camp Half-Blood was on Olympus on a field trip during the Winter Solstice, the one day of the year that Hades is allowed there. The gods symbols of power were unguarded in the throne room (Zeus has TERRIBLE security, Percy once snuck into Zeus' brunch with a bunch of minor gods, half of the Olympian Council and Zeus' mom Rhea without Zeus ever realizing that he was there and it was in Zeus' own palace!!!) so Luke snuck in and stole the Helm and the Bolt. Hades kept quiet because he didn't think that anyone would care enough to offer him justice and Hades believed that admitting to the theft would leave him too vulnerable. Zeus sent his children to find the Bolt and Ares caught Luke, but Kronos convinced the God of War that it would be better to use it to trigger the biggest war ever. Ares took possession of the items and told Zeus and Poseidon his "suspicions" about who actually stole the Bolt, igniting the war tensions. The backpack is actually the Bolt's sheath, Ares put an enchantment on it similar to the one on Riptide so that the Bolt returned to its sheath when it entered the Underworld/got close to Tartarus. The shoes were supposed to take Percy and the Bolt into Tartarus to Kronos, but Percy gave them to Grover instead because Zeus would quite literally probably kill him for flying. The shoes never fit Grover properly because of his hooves which is why they came off and it saved him.

I have some questions for people who have read the books, did the first book had action? And Percy exploring his powers throughout the journey? Or was it as this season has been, barely any action and Percy basically never exploring his powers? I do know that apparently the fight against Ares is the first time Percy fully uses his powers against a full on god, and I’ve seen from alot of people who’ve read the books that the Percy/Ares fight is amazing in the books, really hope Rick does the fight justice in the series next episode 🤞🏼
@MarleyGompel10 ай бұрын
The first book had action, but it was mainly abt establishing the Percy/Annabeth/Grover trio, Percy learns abt his powers mainly through accidents (Falling into the water at the Arch, Annabeth pushing him in water, Clarisse and co. trying to swirly him). In later books he does explore his powers purposefully and yes the Percy/Ares fight is awesome.

@@MarleyGompel Alright then, I can calm down then😂Cuz it’s been annoying me that there’s barely been any action and Percy basically not using his powers, but if the books were similar, ight then...But I really hope they nail that Percy and Ares fight tho🤞🏼
@WarGrowlmon1810 ай бұрын
The first book had action, but it was mostly a few monster fights: Alecto (twice), the Minotaur, Medusa and Procrustes mostly. Percy did have some powers moments, including in the book version of the Tunnel of Love scene (that was completely different to the way that it went in the show), but his one really big use of them in the first book is during his fight with Ares which is gonna be in the finale. It's not until the subsequent books that Percy really starts to learn about his powers and can do big things with them.

@@WarGrowlmon18 ight then...Man they better not disappoint with that Ares fight then🤞🏼

Hopefully not!!! Percy's seriously powerful. I mean in later books he's created a couple of hurricanes and once he caused Mt. Saint Helen's to erupt BY ACCIDENT with him inside of it. Which he survived. Long story, but Percy's friends thought that he died and Percy ended up crashing his own funeral!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Actually, among th olympians yes, he's. Several times in th series zeus is stated to be th most powerful god, w/ th most powerful divine abilities n th most destructive weapon. Even gaia refers to zeus as 'th 1st of th gods'. Only on readriordan is it said that he's probably not as powerful as his father n definitely not as powerful as his grandfather. Both in books n in real greco-roman mythology th only other deity that zeus is afraid of is nyx
