I the series has enough episodes as is. the episode lengths are the problem like every episode is a different length and not in the typical way where the length fluctuates depending on the time needed to tell that part of the story like most shows. they really needed to have hour long episodes so that they could flesh stuff out and make the fight scenes not be so short. and like if they were to stick with 25 minute episodes like that did than yea should have more episodes split set pieces up give big important fights the whole 20 minutes like anime does

Its also more heartbreaking when it happens. Luke and Percy are just chilling being bros, then Luke starts talking about leaving camp and calls in a small monster to attack percy. Then leaves him for dead. At his point Percy was pretty sure that the prophecy was over. he assumed the "friend" meant Ares since he "helped" them on their quest. In the books, Percy was so afraid when meeting Gods that he kept calling Hades "uncle". It is true though that he gets on people's nerves, like sending Olympus Medusa's head and travelling by air which is Zeus's domain. Zeus in the books, was also poor tempered. He left the throne room to clean the bolt and told Percy that if he returns and sees him still in Olympus then he will vaporise him. This is just like what Mr D said when he gave Percy the quest and had to leave for Olympus.

@elizabethblack2674 I am reading the lost hero now and they are angry at him again. They are like "thank you for saving Olympus but we hate you". I was thinking at the end of the fifth book that all Gods claiming their children and having cabins at camp could be disastrous. There would be so many cabins, so many campers and all minor Gods will have the same influence as the major ones. It would weaken Zeus' rule. At the same time, I think it was the right move and his rule was already weakening. After the second Titan war, I guess people got more confident in overthrowing Olympus.

The fail to save what matters most line refers to his mom! In making the decision to leave the underworld without her, he “fails” in what he initially planned to do (although he got her back a different way). Luke hints at that when he replies “your mom?” after Percy talks about the line towards the beginning of their conversation. Definitely more subtle though!
@brattneyrose56528 ай бұрын
See, I had a bit different interpretation. When I read the books, I thought that Percy had failed to save Sally from Gabe, and that was because she had to save herself. Granted, Percy gave her the tool to do that, but she had to do it for herself. So really, that part had nothing to do with the Underworld and everything to do with how Gabe treated Sally.

"Grandpa" that line freaking KILLED me lmao Also, I _loved_ their portrayal of ichor (the gold blood of immortals) and true forms (you look upon a god's true form and you'll be immediately incinerated, Dionysus's mortal mother was incinerated by looking upon ZEUS's true form, arguably the most powerful one) oh yeah, also the reason backbiter (Luke's sword) has a gold and a gray side, is because one half is celestial bronze, the other mortal steel or iron, I can't remember which. But it's both worlds fused together. And it's incredibly unstable, like two same ends of a magnet forced together. Its an extremely volatile weapon.

In Greek mythology looking upon the true form of one of the gods can literally kill a mortal, it’s essentially a manifestation of the gods’ power and if a mortal sees it they’ll burn up. It’s what happened to Dionysus’ mother in the myths, Hera tricked her into making her ask Zeus to show her his true form knowing he had promised to do anything for her and it killed her, Dionysus survived as a fetus and Zeus sewed him into his thigh so he could finish developing as a baby.

I appreciated how sensible they made Luke's argument. Luke isn't just some kid striking out blindly, he's someone who has wrestled with the unjustness of this world and wants change. Now, Kronos definitely capitalized on that to get what he wants, and there's no reason to believe the King of Titans would treat you any better than the King of Gods (at least Zues didn't go around eating his demigod kids??) But you can at least see how he got there. It makes the betrayal hurt that much more because you can tell he really did consider Percy a friend, really did consider Annabeth a sister. But in his mind this was the only way for things to ever improve. Chronos might be big and scary, but he's an idea. Luke is grounded, Luke is real. Crafting him into the antagonist is just a brilliant end to the first book/tv series of a 5 part tale.

I have the context knowledge of the books without the show being too TOO predictable, it's like a new telling of one of my favourite stories 🙌 I just think with the amount of rich lore they had at their fingertips they really should of considered hour long episodes. Hopefully they learn from it and go ahead with longer episodes for season 2, there's enough books for there to be some decent growth if they make the right changes going forward. I totally get alot of book lovers being a little butt-hurt, but for real... A word for word translation of book to screen would make for an incredibly boring and predictable show for any book fan. (that being said, I do wish there was less "tell" and more "show") Percy having a destinct lack of discovery and just knowing stuff in advance is a little bit of an odd choice, but obviously something Rick wishes he'd done from the get go? 🤷♂️ I feel like alot of the show infact is Rick going back and reckoning all the things he wants to change about his books 😂

RIP what a legend Also, damn that Poseidon/Zeus/Percy scene was amazing. It was a bit of a departure from the books again but I honestly loved what they did far better. Poseidon sacrificing his pride to save his son was the perfect way to bring the Sally scene in ep 7 full circle. Plus the implication that Poseidon still dreams of her was an unexpected but additionally powerful touch. For whatever flaws the show has had I love how much it gave the story a strong emotional core, something the movies were sorely lacking imo Anyway I'm so glad you enjoyed the series! BOOK SPOILERS There were some details from percy and luke's last interaction that were left out. They are not entirely important in the long run, but they made percy's feelings of betrayal and horror more prominent. The first is luke's sword. You can kind of see how it looks different, but I don't think non book readers would have picked up on the fact that it is half celestial bronze and half normal steel. When percy sees this, he questions why luke would need the steel since it can't hurt anything from the mythical world. But it can hurt demigods because they are half mortal. This is when he realizes that luke is not only going against gpds and monsters but is fully willing to harm his fellow campers who all look up to him and have nothing to do with the gods behavior. They are just as much victims of the system as luke, but he is still willing to hurt them (and potentially mortals) for his cause. This is something that starts to solidify him as a "bad guy" in percy's mind, because percy has shown time and time again that he is willing to put himself at risk to help others. The other thing is that luke actually releases highly poisonous scorpion monsters on percy in order to get away, and basically almost kills him. Percy spends the last bit of summer in the infirmary recovering from his injuries. This is what makes annabeth and the others realize just how far luke is willing to go.

In the original book, the line “Fail to save what matters most in the end” refers to Sally Specifically in the book, Gabe is a MUCH more monstrous, abusive asshole, who is absolutely not comedic at all. After Sally and Percy return, Gabe slaps Sally across the face, and Percy considers using the Medusa head to kill him. But Sally tells him not to, and that it shouldn’t be his responsibility to save her. She needs to save herself, and Percy needs to be OK with that. That’s what the line refers to - Percy fails to save his mom, because he needs to learn that it’s not always his responsibility to save everyone. Anyway then Sally kills Gabe with the Medusa head and sells his statue as an art piece to pay for writing school

20:01 in the books smelly gabe's death was much more satisfying because in the books he was portrayed as an abusive stepfather that would beat percy's mom all the time

Rebecca Riordan confirmed that they purposefully toned that down for the show. In an interview, it was revealed that Gabe dying that way has ANOTHER implication: the last line of the prophecy remains unresolved and may come true in a different way in the future.

I think that the dream of Percy reuniting with his mother is how it actually happened and then Kronos took over the dream and showed up. Percy's interactions with Chiron are pretty much like in the book, but their relationship before the teacher was revealed to be Chiron is where a lot of their closeness come from and that was skipped over in the first episode. Remember, Percy was at a boarding school. Chiron was actually Percy's favorite teacher at the school You don't get a sense of that from their interactions in the first episode. Percy in the book would have been happy to have made his favorite teacher proud. This Percy? It's much less understandable. To me, at least.

The end credit scene was a bit different in the book. It turns out he was hitting Sally and Percy gave the head to his mom to give her so agency and she ended up selling the sculpture of Gabe and the money from that she used to go back to school

the wiki says this about the last line of the prophecy: "In the end, Percy failed to save his mother. He had to leave her in the Underworld with Hades as he only had three pearls. Hades returns her after receiving his Helm of Darkness"

Summary of the episode that also applies to the work... They cut a lot of the action, created an emo version of the characters including the Gods, and drawn it in soap opera too much. They added a lot of things that had no reason to add and they pruned things without need. But so... As an alternative work to the book it did very well! Good photography, a lot of EMOtion, interesting plot, the actors and actresses did very well. But it's good to understand that it's a different way of telling a story and developing characters in a totally different way to the original work. Riordan's work is practically a narrative of subsequent, not-too-much-descript events, through which the protagonists go through fits and starts without any of these feelings considerations and sentimental dilemmas. Quite the opposite, Percy is a guy who never understands anything right and uses his bile more than his brain, which is, by the way, why he has so many disagreements.

Luke’s plan when you think about it makes sense. Kronos overthrew his father for power, then the Olympians overthrew the primordial Gods who were the parents of the elder Olympians. Seems fit the Demigods take over.

The part of "you'll shall fail to save what matters most" in the end did come true it was the first part to come true, Percy couldn't save his mother from the underworld and had to leave her behind to defeat Ares. Her mother only returned because Percy did make a deal with Hades to return his helm. The order of the Prophecies sometimes don't follow the order of how it would happen.

We see more of Grover's quest for Pan in The Sea of Monsters and The Battle of the Labyrinth with Grover finally finding Pan with the help of Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, Rachel Elizabeth Dare and Nico di Angelo in the latter book. Grover's search is on hold during The Titan's Curse because he was sent to find more demigods instead, but Pan sends Grover a giant boar to help him and speaks directly to Grover.
