I saw a peregrine falcon doing barrel rolls around a bald eagle harassing the eagle from its territory. I witnessed this taking place above the tree-tops just below the rim of Crater Lake in Oregon. It was an amazing display. I also saw, at very close range, a goshawk fly up from the forest floor having just caught a large snake. It was very majestic. That was in Lassen National Park in Northern California.

As a previous Falconry/Austringer for over 20 yrs....you cannot compare the two. Both have a very unique hunting style and that is because of the birds structural.....The Peregrine is a "Falco" and the Gos is a "Accipiter"...thus a very different hunting form.....but you have shown the highlights of both!

I once saw an accidental head-to-head matchup of these two. Peregrine was in full stoop; goshawk was ambush-hunting from a tall pine by a riverbank. The goshawk basically T-boned the falcon about 6ft off the water. Goshawk was tough enough to pull up, but the falcon couldn't; it most likely drowned.

My thing is peregrine's are fastest at a stoop or dive, but what if that misses. I've seen on national geographics pigeons evading peregrine stoops. Goshawks are very agile flyers and might be able to dodge, recover, and take the advantage. And for the record Swift's are the fastest flying birds in a straight line.

They also hit their pray at that speed, which would normally knock out or kill any other animal who would attempt that kind of attack at that speed. I think it’s you who needs to go back to school.

Peregrine male hits a stationary target with .22 energy and a large female maybe pushes that to compound crossbow comparisons. I think the extra skeletal mass is why they have that odd center of gravity when hopping about on land.

If the goshawk was flying across an open field, the peregrine would fall out of the sky hit the goshawk and decapitate the goshawk. If the peregrine was sitting on a fence post and the goshawk seen it and wanted it the peregrine would probably be dead before it knew what was going on.

I agree with everything but your last statement. Goshawks eat their prey alive. Even with talons penetrating, the victim often is dying while getting eaten. Being dead before it knew what happened applies more for the peregrine.

I agree because while on the ground or maybe a dense forest the peregrine would have a pretty hard time due to the goshawk being bigger, having stronger talons, and being able to maneuver through the trees but the peregrine is much faster in the air and on average falcons have more powerful beaks with that special tooth they have. So if the peregrine can get q good bit above the goshawk i think it could end it with a dive bomb.

the goshawk is skilled in hunting prey at regular speed or on the ground so would likely win in such situations but the falcon has the most dangerous attack of any bird while diving at high speed and if caught in the open a goshawk would be at high risk. unlike larger birds including eagles they usually manage to avoid these attacks because they are small and agile.

Depends where, in the woods the goshawk will out fly a peregrine easily. The only place it could happen is fighting for prey. There I think the goshawk power would prevail but they would not kill eachother over prey. When fighting because of the nest or prey, in a face off Goshawk will chase the peregrine easily.

Realistically if the peregrine falcons wanted to, they could kill any animals including humans, but they dont exist to eliminate other lives lol and also although they can be that one animal potentially can eliminate any other, its attacks can be very double edged, diving that high and fast can be fatal for both the falcon and the the other animal. Its like a kamikaze attack but if the timing is unlucky for the falcon, it can be suicidal or luckily a miss or a hit. Goshawks are bigger, stronger more aggresive , have a faster reaction time in flight so if they were going head to head in a fight I would still give it to the goshawk. The only way a peregrine could have any chance of taking out a goshawk would be if it was able to get up high and get one of their famous super fast stoops going and hit the goshawk hard but In a straight fight over territory a goshawk would win.

The lioness is slightly bigger in size, slightly Heavier (African lioness 300lbs, pantanal jaguar 220-250 lbs) and more aggressive but the jaguar has a stronger bite force, is more muscular and more robust. Both are pretty similar in raw strength and both have 3 inch claws and teeth so i would say 50/50 but it depends on sub species
