It is. But he was still fighting. Watching now I notice how after Poatan's knee landed (minute 4:16 of the video), Khalil actually lands good hooks at Poatan's head, one of which aparently hit his chin. I mean, even if he was pretty hurt, that punch could've knocked out Poatan, just look how Adesanya won angainst him the same way.

If Periera takes the heavyweight strap at 38 he will be arguably the greatest fighter who ever lived.
@ImNotLuthienКүн бұрын
Let's chill the fuck down. First of all the only top competition he faced was Jiri, because he was the number one contender, and Izzy. And Izzy flatline him. He hasn't face the top competition. He is willing to fight, but that doesnt mean he is the greatest fighter. You cannot tell that when you got people like Khabib who face the next contender everytime and never lost. He is really, really active, but he just fought with a ranked 8 guy who is not even in his prime. You are hyping this way too much.
@ImNotLuthienКүн бұрын
Yan was also top competition, and we all saw how boring that was. Ankalaev deerved this fight but they are just filling Alex with no names or old guys. The fight he is willing to risk the bell that easily is really impressive, though. Thats another matter.
@nycooo6270Күн бұрын

@DJ42487Күн бұрын
I think that's what the UFC wants to do here soon. After Alex faces Ankalaev, I think they'll do Alex Vs. Aspinall and if Alex somehow gets passed Aspinall have him fight the current GOAT Jon Jones for all-time GOAT status. I mean if it get's there the anticipation will be like nothing else. Unfortunately, I don't think Pereira gets passed Ankalaev though, so probably won't ever come to fruition.

@conservativefather54464 күн бұрын
That didn’t look like Roundtree in the first two rounds. It really shows the patience of Alex to conserve his energy and take the nastiest shots of arguably the biggest power puncher in LHW outside of Alex himself. Then, pick and choose his shots and just batter Roundtree with shots that don’t even look like much, but as Marc Not So Goddard said “his punches make an ungodly sound” in his twenty years of referring fights, he’s never seen or heard anything like Alex. To all us OGs who’ve been in the sport since the Tito and Shamrock rivalry, we got a chance to witness the greatest fighters to ever do it. Alex being the last of the dragons to be considered the best to ever do it. Gosh I love this sport.
@Atthetta3 күн бұрын
Pereira's leg kicks immobilize Roundtree in the start of R4, he becomes too slow to counter and a sitting duck at that point, what a nasty beating he took in R4
@tonyc73014 күн бұрын
Alex's patience is unreal. Most guys (Especially down 2 rounds to 1 on the cards, like Alex was at the time) would have gone crazy if they saw their opponent was hurt or running out of gas, but Alex stayed calm and cool and just mercilessly picked Rountree apart. Respect to Rountree as well. Most people thought he had no shot, but took two rounds off of Alex and stood in front of him the entire time.

Like Alex isnt going to just die if he gets taken down or wrestled it’s not as easy as it seems. He has decent defense and is probably tons better than he was and getting better the more he trains. Fantastic fight! As always, Alex is a beast. It was interesting to see how he is still very vulnerable to that counter hook that he got KO'd by at MW. If Khalil could've landed that a couple of times early on when he had more gas it could've been a way different outcome. I was surprised to see how Khalil was actually able to land that and make Alex gather himself with how exhausted he was. Nevertheless, Alex is 205 royalty now and easily the fighter of the year for 2024. He deserves the rest that he requested and his shot at HW. After the retirement event between Jones and Stipe, we'd love to see Aspinall vs. Pereira for the undisputed belt!

Alex was baiting Khalil on to strike because he could sense he was getting tired and slowing down. He wanted Khalil to exert more energy because his strikes were becoming easier to read. Prime Anderson Silva did the same thing. Everytime Khalil threw something Poatan nodded at him as if to say “ keep going “ where as you could see Khalil physically get more and more demoralized and start to throw out of panic. Alex plays just as much mind games as he is physically imposing and powerful. His expertise and wisdom from years and years of striking shows.

Ref can't stop it until the opponent stops defending. Khalil was still throwing punches and covering up right up until the end. I hate to see unnecessary damage as much of the next guy, but if Rountree had have somehow landed one of those haymakers and won, nobody would have been calling this a late stoppage.
