Wow, everything looks so well established for only 2nd year. I'm so big into perennials this year. Everything you have is exactly what I'm looking for. I love these choices and not just because of the foilege but I love purple. I'm not a yellow fan but you have changed my mind. It actually makes everything pop even more. @@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn I’m just curious, I’m growing sunflowers and they are sprouting in Texas, but I notice something is eating the leaves because there are holes in the leaves. Will they still grow? Also, what can cause this and how do I stop it from happening?
@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn9 ай бұрын
From what I know it could be the sunflower moth which is the major common pest of sunflowers. Stem weevils, seed weevils, stalk girdlers, and thistle caterpillars are occasional pests. As long as they are not eating every single leaf and devastating your plants, I think your sunflower should be OK. You would need to go out and look turn the leaves over and see if you can find anything that is munching on them. I dont use anything that could harm bees and butterflies so my method is to go out and pull the critters off. It all depends on how much or how large your crop is.

What a great video! I am trying to find a shorter yarrow for my small garden. Something that doesn’t flop over. The majority of my plants are native to North America or nativars. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance! P.s. Iam in Canada zone 5b
@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn5 ай бұрын
That’s a tough one because It tends to grow tall and flop in moist and rich soil, hot weather or when too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied. Have you cut it back after it blooms to make it more compact and rebloom? Last year this yarrow not flop at all. I have moonshine yarrow. I would say it is mid middle of the road as far as height in a Yarrow. However, we have had an incredibly wet spring, and my Yarrow is super tall this year. I am certain it’s going to flop this year. Once it’s done blooming, I will cut it back and that will help.

Hi Dawn, Out of all of these perennials, what have you had success with starting from seed? Thank you
@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn Жыл бұрын
Echinacea is easy to grow from seed but requires a cold, moist period-called stratification-in order to germinate. I’ve also done a few of my prairie plants. Great idea for another video tho. Thank you!!

Just found you and subscribed. What state are you gardening in. I am new to gardening now that I am retired so hopefully I will get some pointers from you for my zone 5b area. You may already have videos that cover the subject but it would be helpful to hear if the plants are drought tolerant and what maintenance is needed during and after the growing season
@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn Жыл бұрын
Welcome! So glad your here. I’m in Wisconsin zone 5. And that’s a great idea. I’m going to do a video on care and end of season maintenance!! Really just about everything so grow is easy care. No fertilizer, water during drought and cute back to the ground in spring. Thanks again for the suggestions!!

My coneflowers get eaten in the night ? do you think it might be chipmunks/squirrels and not the rabbits I have been blaming, is it possible the yarrow scares away the critters from the coneflowers
@SeasonalDesignsbyDawn Жыл бұрын
Depends on how big are they when they get eaten? If they’re really tall and someone’s eating them it’s probably the deer or if it’s when they’re short and popping out of the ground it’s probably the rabbit. Try spraying it with the deer rabbit repellent. It stinks when it’s wet it does dry so you don’t smell it but it does work well with the deer and rabbit here. I do feel that if you mix flowers in like cone flowers with like a yarrow or something that deer absolutely don’t touch in your yard, you have a better chance. You know you’re kind of blending them in so to speak.
@sc38585 ай бұрын
