Thank you for a wonderful guide to beautiful ‘high-value’ plants (long-blooming perennials). I continue to rewatch the Peruvian Lily segment of your video. The bright orange flower looks like butterfly weed, but is there an orange Peruvian Lily? Whatever it is, it’s beautiful!

Many hydrangeas grow on old wood. Beautiful displays
@PlantDoHomeGarden
@PlantDoHomeGarden 5 ай бұрын
Great observation on the old wood blooming. Many varieties, especially the big-leaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), do indeed bloom on old wood, which is why it's so important to be careful with pruning. This old wood blooming is why some gardeners get frustrated when their hydrangeas don't flower after a harsh winter or improper pruning - they've accidentally removed the flower buds for the next season. There are some newer cultivars that bloom on both old and new wood, giving a longer bloom season and more reliability in colder climates. But those classic varieties blooming on old wood can create some truly spectacular displays when well-maintained.

This channel although extremely interesting and helpful has the tendency of mismatching the wrong photo of the plant being discussed as in displaying Zinnias during the dahlia segment.

No Salvia or Agastache in the list. :( Our Mystic Spires Blue Salvia bloomed from late March until the hard frost we had this past week (Central Texas zone 8b). Nothing in the neighborhood blooms longer or more consistently than the Mystics. Agastache, like Blue Fortune, starts blooming a bit later, but it too will continue to hard frost.

Thank you for this! A couple comments… One is you should avoid recommending invasive non-native species. There are plenty of perennials that fit the Bill that are not invasive or native. Secondly perhaps running your script through a thesaurus may vary some of the descriptions that you have to make it a bit more interesting.

I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a purple yarrow ? 💐💚🙃
@PlantDoHomeGarden
@PlantDoHomeGarden 5 ай бұрын
Ah, good catch! 🧐 You're right to be skeptical about purple yarrow. While yarrow (Achillea) comes in many colors like white, yellow, pink, and even deep red, a true purple yarrow is pretty rare. What's often marketed as "purple" yarrow is usually more of a deep pink or magenta shade.

almost every plant section shows pictures of OTHER plants. not well done! In chapter Lavender there are pictures of Nepeta included. Chapter Dahlias shows pictures of Zinnias. Chapter Achillea millefolium shows pictures of Achillea filipendula. Scabiosa shows pictures of chives. Echinacea shows pictures of Rudbeckia. Chapter Geum shows Helianthemum. Centrantus shows Spiderplant and Eupatorium.

The fact you put in daylilies (Hemerocallis) demonstrates you really aren't as knowledgeable as we all hoped. Daylilies look good ONLY when in flower -- which is about 2-3 weeks tops. The rest of the year, particularly after flowering and in the heat of summer, the plants look atrocious and are not worthy of a lone placing in a garden. They need to be hidden among other plants that don't look awful the other times of growing season.
