Thank you for a wonderful guide to beautiful ‘high-value’ plants (long-blooming perennials). I continue to rewatch the Peruvian Lily segment of your video. The bright orange flower looks like butterfly weed, but is there an orange Peruvian Lily? Whatever it is, it’s beautiful!

Many hydrangeas grow on old wood. Beautiful displays
@PlantDoHomeGarden4 ай бұрын
Great observation on the old wood blooming. Many varieties, especially the big-leaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), do indeed bloom on old wood, which is why it's so important to be careful with pruning. This old wood blooming is why some gardeners get frustrated when their hydrangeas don't flower after a harsh winter or improper pruning - they've accidentally removed the flower buds for the next season. There are some newer cultivars that bloom on both old and new wood, giving a longer bloom season and more reliability in colder climates. But those classic varieties blooming on old wood can create some truly spectacular displays when well-maintained.

This channel although extremely interesting and helpful has the tendency of mismatching the wrong photo of the plant being discussed as in displaying Zinnias during the dahlia segment.

@@cardstockcollectorwhen the video talks about “huge dinner plate blooms” the photo is of zinnias, look at the leaves. The rest are dahlias.

I know it’s probably not a big deal but they have typos in their thumbnails sometimes and that makes me question the quality of the info they provide 🤷🏻♀️

Zinnias and dahlias are more or less one in the same.... They can look completely identical.

Thank you for this! A couple comments… One is you should avoid recommending invasive non-native species. There are plenty of perennials that fit the Bill that are not invasive or native. Secondly perhaps running your script through a thesaurus may vary some of the descriptions that you have to make it a bit more interesting.

I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a purple yarrow ? 💐💚🙃
@PlantDoHomeGarden4 ай бұрын
Ah, good catch! 🧐 You're right to be skeptical about purple yarrow. While yarrow (Achillea) comes in many colors like white, yellow, pink, and even deep red, a true purple yarrow is pretty rare. What's often marketed as "purple" yarrow is usually more of a deep pink or magenta shade.

The fact you put in daylilies (Hemerocallis) demonstrates you really aren't as knowledgeable as we all hoped. Daylilies look good ONLY when in flower -- which is about 2-3 weeks tops. The rest of the year, particularly after flowering and in the heat of summer, the plants look atrocious and are not worthy of a lone placing in a garden. They need to be hidden among other plants that don't look awful the other times of growing season.
