You should try lowering the heat so your garlic won't burn. Just boil it in water until almost done then transfer it into a pan with your ingredients. Try adding some lime and crushed red pepper if you aren't a big fan.

Howdy, a little rusty in the kitchen myself, so I'm making my sweety your perfect asparagus recipe, I'm going to snap them and cook both ends so as to get more of the tasty vegetable. I intentionally bought asparagus w/thinner uhh stalks so the remainder didn't go to waste. the asparagus will compliment the Rib Eye for Pre Valentines Dinner tonight. The Local store wanted $13 for 3 Oz Lobster tails. Ridiculous!!! Back when I was a Broiler Chef I could get a nice 7-10oz Australian Lobster Tail for around$14 our cost. Anyway thank you for the tips and great recipes, people can take note, it really doesn't matter whether you are cooking on electric, gas or a grill, etc... The end result is what counts! The more versatile The Chef the better the product being cooked when there may be an issue w/the other fuel type! God Bless, Keep those recipes coming!

Started with hot oil and the minced garlic burned right away. I added more near the end of cooking and it was pretty good anyway. I will add the garlic later rather than the beginning. Thanks for a very tasty side dish.

Asparagus, Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts... my three favorite vegetables. Asparagus goes well with mashed potatoes and steak, Broccoli with cheese and pasta (especially Alfredo) and sprouts can go with just about anything. Another delicious vegetable is Spinach; really good with lighter meals like cold cuts or Taziki and Lamb.

Just followed these instructions and my asparagus came out AWESOME! Perfectly cooked, still crisp. The only thing I tweaked was that I used about 4-5 whole garlic cloves instead of minced...don't really like the taste of too browned garlic...so so so so good.

Excellent insight, Sam, and agreed! Two things I've learned via trial and error: cook with whole garlic cloves to avoid catastrophe and second, proper heat temperature is everything!

Another good idea when using minced is to add it near the end to prevent too much browning or "burning in the pan". Gordon Ramsey usually enforces that one.

I have to agree with some other commentary: I would have added the water about a minute sooner, because brown garlic is bitter. If you don't want fibrous asparagus, cover for 7 minutes on low to finish this recipe. I personally add the sea salt after they've been taken off the pan.

Does this taste similar to the asparagus they serve in restaurants? Very dark green and has a certain sauce on it. I been trying to find out how to make it like that.

I made this a few months ago and it was delicious, so i’m making it again, thank you for this recipe!! Edit: I put a little too much salt and garlic but it still tastes delicious!! I’m definitely going to do this many times in the future 😊

Hey...brilliant stuff here! I prepared it exactly as he showed it...and I ate the lot!! No hard stalks etc...really nice so I'll try this again! The trick is to get the stalks tender enough to be wilting when you eat them! Yum!!
