We’re spending a perfect day in Gaspésie National Park! This massive park is full of trails and activities for both summer and winter. Parts of the International Appalachian Trail (Sentier International des Appalaches) go through here as well. We’re staying at the fabulous Gîte du Mont-Albert, a 4-star hotel within the national park that sits nestled in the shadow of Mount Albert. We start the day off with a delicious breakfast and pre-order our lunchboxes to take with us as we explore the park. We decide on the Ernest-Laforce trail because it’s one of the best areas to spot moose. There’s also a perfect 360-degree view at the top and, lucky for us, the visibility is great. We highly recommend this trail, especially if you are short on time or not an experienced hiker. We're sad to leave Gaspesie National Park and feel some culture shock as we head back to "the real world" that includes getting our cell phone signals back. Next we head to Projet Éole in Cap-Chat. It’s the world’s highest vertical axis wind turbine. Built in the 1980s, it was a research and development project between Hydro-Québec and the National Research Council. They wanted to investigate wind energy and see if a turbine like this could produce power and, if so, how much. Spoiler: it did produce power and was in operation for some years, however, there was an explosion that put an end to the project. It was too expensive to repair so they sold it for a price you'll never believe! You'll also find here Quebec's first wind farm. We consider both Gaspesie National Park and Projet Éole must-sees in the Gaspé.
We are delighted to partner with the Québec Maritime Tourism Board to bring you this new series around one of the most picturesque and historic parts of Canada. We've had a lot of requests to share more of our home country and this is the perfect time to introduce you to one of the best summer road trips in Canada.

Cannot get over the story of that wind turbine. Incredible. Such a shame it can't be resurrected. What a freak accident. Hmm maybe a certain star singer does have a connection to that place! Are you kidding me with all these views!! Do I see SNOW on those distant mountains? That feathered friend you encountered is probably a grouse. Eileen you could be a bird whisperer @6:55!! hehe Yes it did give a sense of announcing something! I love it too. Like I loved all this video. The tranquility is off the charts once again. So glad the weather cooperated as well🌅🌞😎

That's definitely a really perfectly gorgeous scenery out the front door of your hotel there. Gotta love the mountains & everything about the Gaspesie National Park. I loved the hiking hats as shown when you were just starting out your hike on the trails in the National Park. The bird you spotted on the trail & in the shadow before it went into the sunlight, (5:45 - 6:00 point) looks to be a Ruffed grouse, from what I can tell through the screen, but that's my closest guess on it. Google images on the Ruffed grouse look very close to it, seeming to confirm my guess on the bird you spotted & inquired about. You did have the absolute perfect day for being out of the trail, with perfect visibility & sunshine for absolutely enjoying yourselves while out in the National Park, enjoying your lunch food on that park bench & the scenery. For the 'Heidi' question & reference, I guess you could be Heidi in the Swiss Alps, but Marc's definitely not a cantankerous loner, (that I know of/would guess about) for the 'grandfather' reference (12:40 - 12:50).

Certainly looks like a perfect day! A lovely hotel then a beautiful hike in the park. Epic views there. The turbine was really interesting, always enjoy your visits to abandoned buildings. A lot of fascinating stories and mysteries. Sorry you didn't get to see a moose. Would have to go with seeing a whale over a moose, since I've never seen a whale, but have seen moose quite a few times, having lived in New Hampshire for a couple of years. We saw moose by the side of the road a few times when travelling up to Quebec.

Very moving and emotional to see in the wild. We did a whale watching tour on this same Gaspé trip.

It is the only remaining walled city in North America north of Mexico and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985. Among its other distinguishing characteristics are its narrow cobblestone streets, stone buildings, fortifications, and rich French Canadian culture grounded in the French language.

Gaspésie is actually one of the most beautiful regions of Canada, and so is Banff. Have you ever visited the province of Québec? The Fjord of Saguenay, Charlevoix, Québec city and Gaspésie are all among the most beautiful places I have visited. I can't really tell if Banff is better than the Chic Chocs, since it's different. While mountains in Banff are a bit more impressive, Gaspésie has better food, the ocean all around, amazing small villages everywhere, rivers are equally as beautiful in Banff and in Gaspésie, (and people in Gaspésie are way kinder than Albertans 😅) As for hotels, while the Banff Springs has beautiful architecture, there are nice hotels in Gaspésie as well. On your way to Gaspésie, you can always stop at the Frontenac Castle in Québec city which was built by the same railroad corporation as the Banff Springs hotel
