Yes! I had the pleasure, thanks to my brother and his gal pal, of visiting Sandy Hook, New Jersey in 2011. We went up to the tippy top..which afforded a stunning view of New York Harbor. .including the Statue of Liberty, the Manhatten skyline..and you could also see planes approaching JFK airport! So I got two birds in one stone that day...lighthouses and my affinity for aviation! Btw I think Sandy Hook is the oldest continually operating lighthouse in the US. OH today, August 7th is also National Lighthouse Day!!! whoo hoo!

Hello Eileen and Mark, o yes I visited lighthouses many many time because I was born and grew up 100km from Baltic Sea 🌊 Every vacations I spend on the beach, also many time during the year. Thank you for this video! I am such a lighthouse enthusiast, since my hometown in Ohio has not one, but two historic lighthouses. The older one was built in 1825 in Fairport Harbor (on Lake Erie) and rebuilt in 1876. Today you can climb the tower and visit the museum which is set up in the light keepers house. (Limited hours, run by small town volunteers). The "new" lighthouse was built in 1925 at the end of the breakwall out on the lake. Since it was decommissioned, it is now privately owned by a person that is restoring it and using it as a summer home. It took me growing up and moving away to realize how special it was to grow up a short walking distance away from lighthouses.

Hi Susan! Thank you for sharing this about the lighthouses in your hometown! You're right that it is very special to grow up so close to one...and in your case TWO. I really appreciate local volunteers who work so hard to keep these places open and accessible to the community and visitors. Interesting that the second one is being repurposed as a holiday home. I love when spaces are reimagined. Glad you enjoyed this video and seeing some of Canada's lighthouses :)

I assume most lighthouses are retired now…. ….That they have been rendered obsolete by GPS and electronic charting…… They continue to be romantic all the same…The lonely light keeper in a storm and all….! I loved the stories…!

Yes, there's definitely a lot of symbolism and romantic stories involving lighthouses, that's for sure. These 3 were all particularly unique and noteworthy for me and all for different reasons. It was really fun to see them and better appreciate the role they play/played.

There is so much to love in this video from start to finish including Marc's hilarious "boat dance". The museum was just awesome. I've never seen historic paintings come to life. What a great way to present history. The lighthouses of course are the stars of the video. I can't imagine what possessed people to move a lighthouse from Gaspe to Quebec City. Three cheers to the people who had it restored to where it belonged by the ocean. Thanks too for you commentary about lighthouses and life. Well said.

haha thanks! Yeah, the museum really was great with how they used different media to tell the stories and history. I loved the Harry Potter moment! I don't know exactly why the lighthouse was moved but at least they didn't destroy it! Better it be "decor" on the street. That said, it's had quite a journey and I'm just so happy that it's back in the community where it belongs. Seeing it (and going inside and seeing the glass!) was a highlight for me.

Oh. My. Goodness. I can't even. I will be buzzing over this video for days. What an incredible comeback story of that second lighthouse. I wonder how that thing was transported! Love your touching comments too, I couldn't agree more. Years ago I wrote a short poem on lighthouses called "Beacon of Hope". Unfortunately it got lost after my mom passed. Wow, three of them in this video. You guys spoil me LOL. And I saw your dancing in front of the last one. Could we have more of you in this world please? No doubt it would be a more perfect place. You content is perfection for me I tell ya that. Incredible about that torpedo! Talk about mind blowing (pardon the pun lol). Those come-to-life pictures are super cool too. I've heard of Jacques Cartier. So the lighthouses were awesome of course but the rest of what you shared didn't take a back seat! Thanks so so much❤❤❤

The second lighthouse was transported via truck and a funny story I didn't share in the video is that it actually got lost along the route. At one point they didn't know where the giant lighthouse was haha. Sounds like a lovely poem you wrote. Sorry to hear it's been lost (and that your mom has passed). That's really cool seeing the preserved Gaspe Naval battery, and the history of the area defending itself against the invading U-boats during WWII. I'm a really big fan of WWII history, telling of all the courageous acts by people doing all they could to protect those they loved from the evil of the era. Lighthouses are always super cool as said, so much history in them, often not really appreciated by most.

Hey Kevin! If you love WWII history you would definitely love seeing Fort Peninsula and hearing all about the Battle of the St. Lawrence. Also the torpedo at the museum that the local man kept in his shed for so long! Definitely a lot of interesting stories of courage.

Great video. England where I am from have so many historic lighthouses most of which are still operational but computer controlled rather than by people.

I lived a few doors down from Fort Prevel. We often played in the tunnels as children and ate out lunch on the guns. LOL Will be returning this summer with my children :)
