Reservations are now required to get into Yosemite because of how busy it was last summer 2023. We were there July 30-31st from Wisconsin. Waterfalls were still had a large flow rate because of all the snow the prior winter. Tioga road opened only two weeks earlier. Dean

I think you need to add a sixth thing to your video, and that’s to get your itinerary! I bought one last week, and I can't stop looking at it and dreaming about our Yosemite trip! I showed it to a friend’s bro in law who worked as a geologist in Yosemite for a summer, and even he was blown away and said he couldn’t have come up with a better plan to see the park in 1-4 days. Thanks for making such a difference, Ash….we really appreciate you!!

The 3rd week in May, before memorial day is the best time to go. No tourists, you have the whole park/valley to yourself. You can also camp at Bass Lake which is at the southern entrance about 45 minutes outside of the valley. Alot cheaper than the valley. It is way better than Yellowstone.
@DirtInMyShoes4 ай бұрын
That can be a nice time to be there if you're okay with mainly focusing your time in the valley. The high country, including the Glacier Point Road and the Tioga Road, may not be open by that time. And many hiking trails are still covered in snow :)

Honestly, camping along Tioga Pass Road is MUCH nicer than camping in Yosemite Valley. The campgrounds may not be as close to Yosemite Valley attractions. But the campsites are much more spacious, spread out, private, and ‘nature immersing’. It is also easier to get a reservation. By contrast, camping in Yosemite Valley is much more like camping at a music featival or RV park. Also, summer weather is MUCH nicer along Tioga Pass Road than in blazing hot Yosemite Valley. And although Yosemite Valley gets all the love, the high country should NEVER be looked at as a downgrade.
@DirtInMyShoes7 ай бұрын
I agree...I love camping along the Tioga Road! But it has a much shorter season and isn't as convenient for first-time visitors. When we return to Yosemite, now that we've been many times, we tend to stick to those more off-the-beaten-path areas and campgrounds!

Thanks for this. I'm going to Yosemite Oct 9th - 19th. We'd like to drive over Tioga pass one day. Do they close it for any amount of snow?
@DirtInMyShoes3 ай бұрын
They have already temporarily closed the Tioga Road once this fall, so it's a definite possibility. They try to get it reopened as quickly as they can, but sometimes it does close down for a day or two in the fall while they clear the snow.

Good day, Ash :) what is your favorite national park to visit? There must be one that gives you some sort of belonging perhaps out of all of them? Nice hearing from a former Park Official! Hi Ash! Great video, such a great information you provided. I found it really useful. My name is Eddie from Argentina and I'm planning to visit the US and try to go to Yosemite in March, between the 12th and 14th. I believe the park would still open but I want to understand how much hike I would be able to do. I'm used to doing a lot of hiking here but always avoiding snow. If I understood correctly there will be snow on those days I chose, am I right? Do you recommend that I visit Yosemite in another season? (I'm not sure when in my life I'm going to be able in short term to visit North America again)
