I put a piece of cardboard over the outlet and use it as a pattern for whatever I'm going to cut.

What if you already have the receptacle installed?

You would want the receptacle removed to install any paneling or drywall. Then reinstall the receptacle. That way it sits flush.

Once the Trace aligns over the Target jig the magnets snap it precisely in place. As long as your Target jig is level your cutout will be to. I am a big fan of the Multi Mark products. 👍🏻
