For me, the main issue is definitely not extending my arms forward after impact rather straight, it is more a question of triggering the power at the right time, or right sequence, i.e. not too early. I found out this morning at the range that most of my best strokes came from releashing the power "late", nearly just at the time of impact or very close to before. So far I could not come across YT vids able to deliver appropriate set of drills to deal with that particular technical point. Could you pls post one or two videos on that topic? Thx. ✌️😉

my understanding of this lesson is that i need to incorporate more hip sway toward target during the downswing, not just rotation. what's the correct direction of the hip on impact? 45 deg between ball and target?

This is a great tutorial. The best I've seen. The problem is, as a 68 year old new golfer, I think you need quite a slinky waist and flexibility to make that twist from striking the ball to the complete follow through position. However, I will try.

By far the clearest and simplest breakdown of what a follow-thru swing should be, complete with form examples at key points in the swing. This video is the "glue" that binds and completes information from other videos explaining the the same concept, but in an incomplete way.

Hi Jonathan - love your videos - but what I would like to know is and I am sure it is mentioned is some of your posts but at what point do you move your weight/hips forward in the swing? Is it at the completion of the backswing or at the downswing or as you swing back on the takeaway? Hoping you can clarify.
@robertmessinger6053 Жыл бұрын
I agree with almost everything being taught here but it does look like there is a fairly significant amount of club-face rotation in your swing. I think in the modern swing the best ball strikers have less face rotation throughout the swing and don’t rely so much on timing. I’m trying to get wider in my swing now and move the butt end of the club as far away from me as possible while swinging over a stable head position, keeping the arm as straight as possible as long as possible into the follow through. Maybe it’s the angle you’re shooting from but I can’t let my right hand turn over like that without timing it too perfectly to be consistent. Again, could just be the angle of the shot…

Great video. One question about the rotation point, you mentioned in another video (about release) that the hip and chest need to decelerate post impact? In this one, you were saying the body needs to keep turning. What's the correct way to look at this?

The writer and director filmographies make it seem like they were going for a kids movie, which makes perfect sense if they were planning to mirror the tone of Shazam. But then the tone seems different and Shazam is ignored.

Question: Have you ever taught someone who had such odd proportions in their body that it was exceedingly difficult for them to develop a nice swing? I'm 6'4, but I have the legs of someone who is 6'6, and the upper-body of someone who is about 6'0. When I watch my swing on camera, it just looks WEIRD (even though mechanically it should be sound.) Or, do you feel that (with proper club sizing) all people can develop a aesthetic and practical swing?
@JKMGolf Жыл бұрын
Yes I have taught people like this and for someone who is very tall and lanky it does tend to be a bit more difficult to control their movements so i find that doing things to make the swing small or more compact helps them in the early stages of their learning

Thank you for the FOLLOW THROUGH MOVES instructions. I’m having real problems with extension and the path of arms and the club. Looking at your video I don’t see the paths of these two(arms and club). The camera is videoing you instructions from FRONT VIEW. From the TARGET view, if it was videoing from there, that would really help me see the PATH of the club when it comes through. THANKS

Damn it - I am a relatively low handicapper (5) but my swing looks like a high handicapper - especially my follow through - I stall out as you mention & then end up with a slight chicken wing - part of this relates to my fundamental lack of understanding about how the club travels through space and my desire to be straight . I am 6’3” and relatively strong but I am always the shortest off the tee ( including beginners ).. argh. I would love to understand how the club travels in space ( ie if I could see a swing and delete the golfer ) and then I could trust the turn and follow through …

JKM, you are one helluva teaching professional! I started watching your videos about a month, ago, and with each one that I've watched, my ball striking has steadily improved! My favorite videos, ones that I've watched more than three times: ~Perfect Follow Through With 3 Moves~ ~Your Posture Affects Everything!~ ~Why You Must Tilt~ ~Driver vs Iron Set Up Position~ ~What Happens After the Takeaway?~ I really appreciate your content and I want you to know that you have really helped my game. I played my whole life without ever experiencing the height and distance you get when you "compress" a ball with a pure strike. Thanks to these videos, now, I know what I've been missing. OMG, What a feeling!

As always, good stuff. I will work on this BUT, what about the head? If I keep my head still into the release, I find it difficult to get all the weight left and rotate toward the target. It looks like your head does let go (turns toward the target and maybe moves toward the target slightly) before you extend (when the head moves back behind the post up position) Thoughts?
