In this video I will be talking about what I believe to be the most important movement in the golf swing and explain why it so crucial for every player to learn. A lot of golfers big issues are caused by a lack of understanding of this so I hope that I can clear things up and give you a better understanding of the swing.

Great info! Going to work on this! In the past when I shifted my weight forward, I would lose my balance. I’m thinking my upper body and head is following my hips. Going to try to focus on keeping head back and shoulders up. Thanks!

Hi Jonathon, I would like to thank you so much as you are a definitely one of the best golf instructors I have ever watched. This is what your video did for me....I watched this video on September 16 and went to the golf range September 17, 2021. I am 57 years old and have been golfing for 12 years. My gap wedge(this is my goto club) was 108 yards carry before I started and my friends have told me I have a violent swing. I now have a shortened back swing as I can now transfer my weight properly as a result of your video. My carry yardage at this age increased to 129 yard carry and half the effort. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks Jonathan, your instruction is consistently excellent and clear. The 'lightbulb' for me has been keeping my head behind my hips through impact. I'm 78 and was struggling to get below 20 hcp because of hitting too many fat and thin shots ... until I began keeping my head back, as per your advice.

I'm planning to watch every clip, from the most basic onward, as I haven't found better explanations in any of the multitude of other KZbin coaches. Every time I integrate some very basic principle you've touched on, my contact and swing improves. One can't argue with the results. E.g. A more consistent 1.4 smash factor with irons, when applying tips for basic swing mechanics. Lastly, I'm actually able to digest and synthesise ideas, which is refreshing, compared to other online coaching videos. In short, keep posting, I can see why you have such a high 'like' percentage on all your videos! I might consider a lesson down the track. Re. J.Hernandez comment, I have a somewhat similar thought, about the difference in swing and plane (and other nuanced mechanics) between long irons and short irons and how to correctly change the swing to accommodate such differences in length between clubs. I seem to hit one or the other well, but can struggle at times hitting both consistantly in the same session/round.

I learned so much in just the last two weeks of stumbling onto your channel. My release was my main problem in my inconsistency. Watching your instructional videos have helped me find ways to practice at home (fist and thumb rotation), and now this one that I can take to the range. Thank you very much for making your videos easy to understand and apply.

This lesson resonated with me. I miss the low point more times than not. Today after watching this and swallowing the club video, I went to the range and made a conscious effort to keep weight more on my left side at setup and stay centered through the swing. The weight shift left and swallowing the club came automatically. The result was crisp ball first contact, square, shallow divots and more distance. I hit about 80 balls and miss-hit maybe 8 or 10, usually that ratio is reversed. I can't wait to try more clubs tomorrow! Love your easy to understand lessons.

Really good video as weight transfer has been a big struggle for me. I've always tried to load up against my trail leg but struggle to transfer and hit a lot of fat shots. This is a new approach that seems to make sense for getting my hips forward and hitting the ball before the ground. Looking forward to practicing these tips.

Thank you. As a former Baseball player, I naturally kept the majority of my weight on my back foot, causing sway to get through my swing and back to my front foot. The change was almost instant in terms of strike consistency and follow through.

Jonathan confused over drill in bending trail arm video with alignment stick that teaches you to keep lead arm pressed against stick. But in the Power move video #2 you say to have lead arm drop away from that angle in downswing. Once do that aren’t you then extending the trail arm prematurely ? BTW think you are by far best instructor on the net.

But the only thing I never understood to now was this the lag movement . I just started practicing this and a lot harder then I thought to stay consistent. So true that beginners and even “intermediate” players DON’T rotate but heave their hips laterally. No power and even worse for consistency with the low point as you say. 8:50 Conversely, the problem with amateurs is the right hip jumps or moves too soon, so you aren’t staying behind the ball. I found it more helpful to think of the right side staying quiet while the left hip (really the left knee) moves left or behind you rotationally to start the downswing.

My issue on my worst strikes is more often than not by keeping my weight forward, but then rotating too much in the chest and shoulders. Chest opening up causes my shoulders to bring the club over the top and fat the ball. When I do keep hips forward and move them more straight forward in the downswing, I usually get good results.

Note the better players also have more shaft lean at impact (chicken and egg). You're absolutely right JKM but it's important to continue rotating onto the lead leg and not slide into the shot because sliding inhibits hip turn.

In his explanation he mentions how when players first try this they tend to move backwards With no reasoning for it The reason is to make room for the straight left arm they feel won’t clear enough to make contact with the ball The true leverage in stack and tilt is that extension he speaks of as the hips turn This is what will give the player the sensation that there is plenty of room to bring the club through as the left arm is pinned against the pec and the body is extending releasing the lever created in the backswing It actually feels good on the right sacro iliac to extend in this manner but be careful to not simply stand up and give up your tilt Jon is obviously very flexible to hold his tilt so long in the through swing I started applying what he teaches after he spoke of the bad back issues that come from staying too flat Trusting this will take time and effort but I believe in the results this far Best to you guys Bank
