The "low effort garlic bread" was one of my favorite childhood foods. I used to order that at the local winery in my grandparents' hometwon in Austria where they made it with lard instead of butter which was incredibly delicious. These days I usually make it with butter though and it's really good, too.
@msr11163 жыл бұрын
Using lard is also the German, Polish and Hungarian way, when for some reason butter wasn't available. Buttered rye toast lightly scented with garlic I remember eating on occasion while growing up, with a halved clove rubbed into the craggy surface as Spaniards do.

The volatility of garlic's chemistry make it such a flexible ingredient. You can have several different preparations of garlic in the same dish and each is functionally a different ingredient, flavor wise, each having its own usefulness. Be it confited or dried, it's an outstanding substance. I love seeing you use multiple preparations in a single dish.

In France, the national garlic bread, known as "préfou", dates back to at least pre-electric oven times. It is said that somewhere in Vendée (a western region on the Atlantic coast) a baker decided to sell the piece of unleavened bread that he used to test the temperature of his oven (pré=before; fou=four=oven). To make it more attractive to customers, he sliced that very flat baguette along its length and filled it with salted butter, crushed garlic, and black pepper. Since then, it became a staple of many apéritif tables.

My mom and I made the second recipe tonight and it was really good, but the store didn't have fresh parsley or parmigiano reggiano so we had to use freeze-dried parsley and the colby-jack cheese in the fridge (I thought the block parmesan was reggiano but it's not necessarily, so that's important for anyone else reading), and the suggested bread was substituted for 6 halves (3 full) gluten-free hotdog buns from some German bread company I forgot the name of (Schar?) because I can't eat gluten. Due to the reduced amount of bread, the recipe had to be divided by 4, so one stick of butter, a tablespoon of cheese, 2 cloves of garlic, and a tablespoon of parsley. Going to try again sometime with the correct ingredients (minus the suggested bread) because it's probably even better than our substitutions, and we'll also eat it with spaghetti because that was a lot of butter from what I ate. Oh, also we used salted butter and it still tasted really good (I like salted butter). Cooking time was 10 minutes pre-heated but still at 400°F.

my mom and i made garlic bread with mixing parsley, chopped garlic and butter creating garlic bread paste, but the problem was we didn’t have an oven and we improvised with a air fryer. it works just aswell!

I make herb butter just like yours then spread it on a loaf of French bread and cut it into 4 inch sections. I never thought of frying the bread first to make it crispier. My garlic bread always comes out softer than I like, so next time I'm going to crisp up the bread first. See I learned something new!

Always a fan Joshua! Tonight I made garlic bread, but didnt realize I was out of parmesan and parsley. So I improvised with cotija cheese and green onions. Can't wait till it comes out of the oven.

Love me some garlic bread, though i take a very different approach when it comes to the comfit method. I like to press (or my new favorite method) microplane the garlic into melted buttter then toast things up (including the milk solids) before applying to the bread.

Mine is always whatever bread is leftover, thrown in the toaster oven with butter and garlic powder. Usually ended up with leftover hamburger or hot dog buns.

I just did this for dinner. Except I used minced garlic that I had in the fridge. Mixed it with butter and slapped that on my bread and shoved it in the toaster. Just what I needed after making pasta

Where I'm from, at leat at my home, we do another version. Grind some onion cloves very fine, add finely chopped parsley and make a paste by adding olive oil and mixing. Then you put that paste on toasted bread (preferably a loaf of ciabatta, we call it chapata tho) and that's it. Usually we add on top some cured ham or cheese o something and it's a nice appetiser. It tastes A LOT like garlic and it's not so much butter xD
