This goes deeper than that one scene. Since the first movie, Patricia has always put on this persona that nothing is wrong, and they are perfect, and they had issues that needed to be worked out that she never talked about with her husband. It doesn't help that she's also out here giving advice on marriage that she's clearly not following. She's helping people with their marriages while hers is falling apart.

I don’t think it’s fair that men can push women so far and then when the woman snaps, that’s why he wants to act like she’s crazy. Basic narcissist 101. He threw her down, restrained her, put all of his weight on top of her, bit her face, threw alcohol on, burned a picture of their child, broke into the house, took all of her money. I’m not saying Gavin has no right to be upset but his reaction to the divorce was completely unhinged and downright embarrassing. And now that Patricia snapped and reminded him what kind of person she can be in front of his employees.. He wants to act all high and mighty. Nah boo-boo kitty. Show them who you really are. I’m not saying Gavin deserved to die because he didn’t, but Pat didn’t deserve to be abused and she doesn’t deserve to be criticized for wanting to embarrass him. But then again, this is one of the reasons why Jesus tells us to not take revenge and leave it up to Him.

I never realized until yall mentioned it that Patricia only monetized her "grief" instead of actually healing. I would put money on it that whatever she wrote in that book, she downplayed her part with very little accountability. It showed during the hospital scene and the memorial service. She did exactly what she did when it came to her son..bottle up her emotions and used it to make a profit. For her to be a psychologist, she's the one that ACTUALLY needed therepy the most. I know too many people like her irl. Just like Debbie Morgan said in Eve's bayou: she can see everybody elses issues, but she's blind to her own life. Unfortunately, Tyler Perry and his target audience are surface level (low to mid vibrational) at BEST, so this talking point might go over a lot of people's heads. Just take a moment and think about the people in your lives who LOVE Tyler Perry and all of his content. What type of people are they? It's definitely something to be studied, thats for sure.

Tyler seemed like he ran out of budget for this film and thought bringing in a gay man in a cake and having Patti provoke her husband that then led to his death would speed things up.
