Psalms 146 | Perfect Promise! Perfect Price! Perfect Peace!
We’ve been on a journey through the Book of Psalms. Over the last few weeks, we have looked at 7 types of Psalms: ✅Hymns ✅Laments ✅Praise | ✅ Royal Homage ✅Thanksgiving | ✅Trust ✅Wisdom
This week we are focusing on The Hallelujah Psalms, which are the last five psalms in our Bible, 146-150.
Hallelujah הָלַל hālal = "Give God Praise"
Today's Focus | Psalms 146
This song reminds us of the prophetic promises God made to Father Abraham and his family. For thousands of years, God’s chosen people have been looking forward to the fulfillment of these promises. The 4 gospels tell us Jesus not only came to fulfill these promises, but Jesus also paid the ultimate price with His own blood to secure these promises. The good news is that these promises are available to all who put their faith and trust in God.
#1. "Perfect Promise" | Psalm 146:1-10
Psalm 146:1 Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2 While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God as long as I live. 3 Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation (help). 4 When his spirit leaves him, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts and plans perish. 5 How blessed and graciously favored is he whose help is the God of Jacob (Israel), Whose hope is in the Lord his God, 6 Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them, Who keeps truth and is faithful forever, 7 Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets free the prisoners. 8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous [the upright in heart]. 9 The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow; But He makes crooked the way of the wicked. 10 The Lord shall reign forever, Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
#2. "Perfect Price" | The Gospel Of John | John 1:25-51
John 1:25 They asked him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize [only] [a]in water, but among you there stands One whom you do not recognize and of whom you know nothing. 27 It is He [the preeminent One] who comes after me, the [b]strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie [even as His slave].” 28 These things occurred in Bethany across the Jordan [at the Jordan River crossing], where John was baptizing. 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God [c]who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I and has priority over me, for He existed before me.’ 31 [d]I did not recognize Him [as the Messiah]; but I came baptizing [e]in water so that He would be [publicly] revealed to Israel.” 32 John gave [further] evidence [testifying officially for the record, with validity and relevance], saying, “I have seen the [f]Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not recognize Him [as the Messiah], but He who sent me to baptize [g]in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this One is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I myself have [actually] seen [that happen], and my testimony is that this is the Son of God!” 35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked along, and said, “Look! The Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they [h]followed Jesus.
#3. "Perfect Peace" | The Gospel Of Luke | Luke 7:18-23
Luke 2:18 John’s disciples brought word to him [in prison] of all these things. 19 John called two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are You the Expected One (the Messiah), or should we look for someone else?” 20 So the men came to Jesus and said, “John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, ‘Are You the Expected One (the Messiah), or should we look for someone else?’” 21 At that very hour Jesus healed many people of sicknesses and infirmities and evil spirits; and He gave [the gracious gift of] sight to many who were blind. 22 So He replied to them, “Go and tell John about everything you have seen and heard: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the POOR HAVE THE GOOD NEWS (gospel) PREACHED TO THEM. 23 Blessed [joyful, spiritually favored] is he who does not take offense at Me.”
Friends, Jesus is the fulfillment of Psalms 146 & today's the perfect day to put your trust in Him!
