Thank you so much. I am using this method with Thai glutinous rice to cook a sticky rice dessert.

Thanks Debbie for the reminder to read label instructions. I was taught this method by my mom about 60yrs ago. She only cooked our locally grown long grain rice. I was so surprised to find out there are so many types of rice when I got married and started grocery shopping! Basmati is my favorite!!!

Did you turn off the heat after the 20 minutes and let it sit?
@DebbiesBackPorch7 жыл бұрын
Yes. Let it sit in the steam for at least 10 minutes.

Rice is a pain in the (?) I use dehydrated rice 1 to 1 let it set for 15 minutes in Tupperware, perfect everytime.

I am confused....arent you just boiling the rice?, i thought steamed would mean the rice is never submerged in water but cooked above the water in a steam tight pot.??
@DebbiesBackPorch Жыл бұрын
As the water cooks down and the rice starts to absorb it, steam forms.

Am i missing something here? This is boiled rice, isn't it? Is boiled rice considered steamed rice? If so, then i truly apologize. I was under the impression that when something is steamed, that it is cooked with steam? Your rice sounds delicious. I'm having a hard time finding "steamed rice". I don't have a rice steamer.

Well, that is what I always thought, too, until I started doing research. If it were boiled rice, you would just put it i the water and boil it. This boils for a few minutes, then completes cooking in the steam inside the pot after you turn the heat off. Even with a rice cooker, you start out with the rice in water.

Thanks. I was just thinking of different steamed food that are cooked with actual steam. So i naturally thought that steamed rice would be the same method. I've always had good luck with rice. My mom was a professional cook and she taught me alot. I will try your recipe. Thanks for the response.
