Are you practicing your tennis swings but not getting better, even when playing against folks who seem less skilled? This video reveals a big oops many players make: they focus too much on copying pro players without really learning how to control the ball. Whether you're a newbie finding tennis tips tricky, or you've been playing for a bit and feel stuck, this video is your secret to boosting your game.

Thank you so much, Kevin! I'm a new player who has been paying too much attention to my posture, even when I'm on the court. I always get distracted by the thought, 'Does my posture look as good as those professionals?' This distraction often leads to me either missing the ball or losing control, and the ball ends up dancing everywhere on the court. I just came back from the court and am feeling a bit depressed about my performance. Your video popped up at the right time and inspired me so much! You are truly a wonderful coach!

Nice to see another minimalist footwear fan. Finding tennis shoes with no heel rise & a generous forefoot is impossible

Great video! I just started playing again after 25 years. I'm still amazed at the level/quality of instruction I can get from a video.

In addition to my other comment I believe tennis technique is actually quite simple and it’s silly to spend years trying to fix it as if that’s the real issue with your tennis as you say at the beginning of the video. It’s pretty much just about swinging low to high across the ball. My suggestion is that one should really focus on producing the shot instead and make technique adjustments along the way. I keep hitting the net so I should swing a little more steeply. I’m hitting too long, I should create more brushing. Ok I brushed more but my shots have no penetration, they land too short, ok let me drive a bit more. Trial and error trial and error until you get the right ‘technique’. Agree, Kevin?

Totally, I think this would really help a lot of players get out of their own way of over thinking the technique needs to be perfect. Even the Pros are consistently tinkering on their own to figure out advantages. And the tinkering comes from hitting a lot of balls. Thanks

Yes! The times I notice more improvement is when I hit with the ball machine over and over!

Production (result) trumps technique. Move, contact, swing path . . . Thx for the insights. Well done.

But Kevin how do you produce the shot without producing the stroke, hence technique?🤔 I know it’s like a chicken or egg question but … Anyway I totally agree, if you can’t produce the shot who cares how the stroke looks! I’ve actually been thinking about this stuff after my UTR match yesterday. I beat a tough opponent but somehow I wasn’t impressed by how I played. I felt that my game was just all over the place. Didn’t know what I was doing sort of. Everything I did was just reactionary, nothing was quite under my control. I was creating shots on the spot with absolutely no plan at all. And guess why? Because I was not skilled enough to produce the required shots to make a plan with them! Great video, Kevin.👍

I like the balance of the racquet especially hitting a one handed backhand. Took a little time to get use to it in the beginning but love it now.

Young players tend to learn by osmosis. They tend to copy the better players in their group. As long as you have a few players with good technique very little intervention is needed with juniors in a group setting. There are of course instances where they develop a bad habit that needs to be corrected. I’ve been working on the bh drop shot on the ball machine. The shot is improving but even so I was regularly putting 20% of my attempts into the net. Yesterday I decided to keep count of how many I put into the net. This change in focus resulted in only 8% going into the net. I think it is safe to say that even though there were more shots that went deeper the success rate would be much higher in a match.

The fact that you said that before you were hitting the net 20% of the time, kinda says you were already keeping track right? 😉

forehand hands way to bend. In all shots way too less energy existing. Looks like just automatic movements without involvement.

Not focusing on the technical elements of the swing all the time but focus on just the moment of impact, forgetting about the technique (at least sometimes, and go back and forth). Does that explanation make sense?
