This is absolutely my teenage era! I was a great fan of The Ventures at school, possibly the only one! First, I bought Walk Don't Run - what a great sound! - then, of course, Perfidia, Blue Moon, etc. We all loved The Shadows as well - and I also bought their singles from Apache onwards. (I still have all my 45s.) To this day, apart from people who were inspired to play guitar by The Ventures, few have ever heard of them, let alone know that they're the world's all-time best selling guitar instrumental group - sadly all now passed away. Well done to Bruce for his tribute. The two groups the backdrop to my teenage musical years.

Bruce Welsh is probably one of the best rhythm guitarists in classic rock ever! And what an entertainer too!

A agreee, First Bruce, second Tom Fogerty and then a big gap and the rest. One of the better shadows style rhythm guitarists was the Croatian player Rudi Šimunec from Crveni koralji Zagreb

The Ventures and Shadows are instrumental bands with very different backgrounds and styles. Both were responsible, in large part, for inspiring many of today's great guitarists wanting to learn to play.

Bruce, We love you in the US. Come out of retirement and come visit us! Also, you have to publish a book of the rhythm chords for your songs.... wouldn't you..... Could you? At least consider it as a request from one of your biggest fans.

The same thing happened to Hank when our little local band went to watch the original Shads at the East Ham Granada in the 60s. The tape broke on his Vox " long tom " echo-box, but there was such a slap-back echo in there (I know, we played there), that probably nobody in the audience that wasn't a gear-freak really noticed. We'd so looked forward to hearing the famous Vox/Meazzi " stunt incidentals" sound live, but in the end, the group's tremendous performance made that unimportant, they just surfed the house. ambience. Chet Atkins was right, it's the man that makes the sound, the gear doesn't play itself.

Dummy.Of course, it had a Latin rhythm. It's a Mexican song. Cugat was one of the first to chart the instrumental version in 1940. Desi Arnaz scored in '41 with the Spanish lyrics in a movie.

Both of them played other people's song, just doin' that you can't sustain yourself & everybody was more keen to listen to the original songs rather than remakes. Both of them had hardly any compositions of their own and couldn't find a permanent lead singer
