Although I just put on a set of Hedman headers about a year-and-a-half ago I knew that eventually I wanted to go to a long tube header they gave me a little bit more torque for Towing. What I knew I wanted and finally bought was the banks torque tube system. The system is rather pricey but you do get 409 stainless with 5/8 inch flanges. What that does is allow you to bolt it to your smooth surface head without any gaskets. The installation was done on a 97 F250 HD. This truck has the 7.5 liter or 460 cubic inch big block with a e4od transmission. Although this is one of the last OBS Ford's that was produced in 97 this installation can be roughly followed going from 1988 all the way until 1997. Of course from 93 to 97 this would be almost identical between those years. Now in my case I removed all the smog equipment so I did not need the air injection tubes nor did I have to worry about my air pump or catalytic converter. Instead of buying what they call their stinger system which is a cat back exhaust, I decided to go with a flowmaster Force 2 system. One that is specifically made for F-250 and F-350 pickup trucks with the 5.8 or 7.5 which is also known as the 351 or 460 cubic inch. I've always had good luck with Flowmaster and in this case there is no reason to think that I'm not going to be a satisfied as I have in the past with the longevity of the exhaust. The fit was very nice and I was glad that I didn't have to go to an exhaust shop and pay to have it bent. The performance of the truck so far is exceptional there is a much smoother acceleration so much so that my wife even noticed it when I took her for a ride. The torque comes on smoothly and is across a wider band. Although this was in a step-by-step installation video I think that most of us that are trying to install these headers can follow the instructions and do it yourselves I just wanted to point out a few things that I came across and that it may make a difference whenever you're doing yours that you need to pay attention to. I’ve found that welding a nut on the end of a twisted off bolt will loosen up the rust way better than drilling or reverse bits

I put a set of stainless headers on my 96 Ford F350 7.5L V8 pickup....I had four broken manifold bolts, two on each side, what a night mare...I got them drilled out & taped...had to take the plastic inner fenders out...I wouldn't wish that job on anyone, I also removed the air pump & EGR plumbing......anyway I bought a 2.5" stainless pipe kit from Jegs, a Flowmaster muffler & built everything from the muffler back...pretty happy with the outcome.

Great video! I have a 90 F350 cab / chassis dually i'm getting ready to rebuild the engine on. I'd really like to install the banks header kit. But wow $1k..!! holy shniekies!! But they sure sound awesome!

I used that type of silicon on my stock headers without gaskets and it fixed my exhaust leaks. I use it on all of my cars now.

I put a set of the same Hedman headers with wrap on my 7.5L f350 4x4 but wanted true duals, so I cut off the header y pipe and welded in an x pipe and installed the o2 sensor in it. I also drilled all the header bolts so I could wire tie them and anti seized them before installation and used brass lock nuts on the collectors Then a set of flow master mufflers and duals out he back left and right, sounds great. Thanks for the video I bought the headers because of the header review you did and glad I did. I also deleted the EGR and smog pump. I recommend a Motorvation EFI chip, makes a big difference for $200.00 at Summit.

How do you delete EGR and smog pump? Also where exactly did you weld the O2 bung? BTW I have a 96 F350 460 4x4 std cab lb doing some mods to that for any ideas etc

sounds good, i just put the banks power pack system on my 92 f350 with a 460. well worth it, no drone or anything in cab. also i've found using copper anti seize for the header bolts works alot better than regular graphite, maybe give it a try if you have the same problem next time. and when chasing my threads i used that nano oil from AutoZone, because it foams it works really well in removing the dirt out of the threads. i also had alot of busted off studs in my heads (5) and i found that building up some weld on the broken stud then welding a washer and nut to them along with being very patient and gentle with an electric impact, rocking them back and fourth was way easier than drilling. and no need to worry about welding the stud in the head because most of your mild steel wire wont stick to the cast iron. just a few tips i picked up along the way that i hope can help anyone out. great video brother keep em coming!

great video, def glad we have waited for warmer weather to get involved with the hedmen headers, going to wrap them after watching your video, we have already stripped them of that protective coding and repainted with hi temp paint, we decided to just spend the money on that gold adapter for the egr (crazy priced but worth the bolt up side), I've already took off the smog pump pulley and changed belts ,I have to next figure out what I can cut off from the smog unit to still be able to use the cat so I can still pass inspection in my state . but we are also replacing front fenders and get alot more access room, we're also using a similar muffler, that was found out of Florida on ebay a few years ago and compares to a flowmaster 40 that was $40 . we will have a 3inch exhaust from the muffler out single pipe. thanks for all the heads up.

I just picked up a 1995 F250 460 and love the videos you have here. Since I'm 6 years late to your video, can you let me know the equivalent Banks system I could find today to set up just like you did here? Also, the Flowmaster muffler to help quiet for longer rides is a great idea.

Great vid! I just did the same thing to my '96 250! Although I used the whole Banks package from head to tail. Sounds amazing and, man, it definitely flows better. That EGR pipe was a BITCH (even though I got a brand new one)

Hello Foxboss, love your 460 vids. Looking at doing the same to my 1994 f250 standard cab...... so far I'm seeing three broken bolts. Did you need a right angle drill to get yours out, of were you able to fit a conventional style drill in there?

I believe that I did use a right angle impact driver for one of the broken bolts on the passenger side but I think conventional drill was used for the others

I was really hoping for an in cab sound clip while driving. How does it sound inside? I want to do this upgrade but I really only use this truck for long trips and don't want to have to deal with a loud exhaust sound inside the cab for 6 hours.

I'm not sure if I could do that anymore. Especially pulling an RV on 3000 mile trips. I just can't imagine what I would feel like or my wife would feel like hearing that for 8 to 12 hours straight.

@@Foxboss9 yeah I can image that would suck I have them and they hump loud in the cab it gets annoying after awhile .....is it hard to install the header was the bolts or nuts stuck are there pretty good

Unsure if you'll see this, or remember... but here goes my question. On the drain access hole on your transmission, I notice you had the rubber plug in place. Did you have any adver reactions with the heat from the exhaust with it? Odd question, but I have held off installing my replacement out of fear the rubber will react poorly.

Banks does not sell those headers anymore. Called today 4/5/24 they said they discontinued them. if you want to pin this comment to save someone time thats cool with me.

Watched a lot of your videos so I’d love to get your advice. Put a crate motor 460 into my f250 ‘95 and my mechanic said not to put new headers on it. I was going to and stopped. Now I’m thinking about it again. Is it worth it and does it damage the engine?

Good review! Just bought a stock 1996 f250 4x4 5spd OBS about to do full header and full exhaust back. Might just go with Banks. Also what do you think about their INTAKE UPGRADE SYSTEM? Need maximum HORSEPOWER out of this 7.5L 460 BB motor!

I drilled my airbox and installed a KNN...Make sure to do the intake airhorn cutoff trick....will add powwer immediately for no money..

I did... Just welded a pipe right over it. I also plugged up those two O2 sensor holes and welded in a new O2 bung at the end of the y-pipe. Works great.

Great video!!! In fact, I like all of your videos. I have a question that maybe you or someone else can answer. I have a 1996 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 with the 460. I have the chance to purchase a new Banks system that includes the headers and exhaust, but it is for a standard cab. Right now, I am running stock headers, but a free flowing cat and Magnaflow muffler. My question is, I am assuming that the Banks headers are the same between cab configurations, it would just be the amount of additional exhaust tubing that comes with the system? I’m hoping this is true so that I can purchase the system and fab together the rest of the exhaust with a combination of what I currently have and what comes with the system. Thanks

I don’t see any Banks options available without the exhaust recirculation. Looking for 1991 460 with e4od, f350 4x4. Everything on their website shows 50 state compliance and picture shows tube running along connecting to each header.

Start using grade 10.9 bolts for headers. And remflex gaskets. They never leak

Was the banks power pack worth the money?? I tow a good sized trailer in the summer and snowmachines in the winter so if it doesn't help much with towing then it may not be worth it for me

Eagle Rentals headers are the best performance gain you can bolt on... I noticed a difference even over the Hedman headers I installed prior to these... The thing is that future mods always require more exhaust flow so you can start with the exhaust and if you want more you'll have the flow to accommodate... The cost of the headers for just the performance aspect is a big bite to chew however the quality, fitment and, longevity of the stainless makes up for it...

Ok. I have an exhaust leak anyways so I was going to save up and get the banks headers, I like the idea of going with the flowmaster exhaust to save money, great idea. did you ever end up installing the rest of the banks performance kit? I just installed the derale dual electric fan kit onto my truck so im excited to test that out!!

Wow, that sounds really good. Those headers look really nice. Are you selling the hedmans you took off? I wonder if the part number is the same for 2/4wd trucks. Mine is a '94 F-250 4x4 with a 460. I believe we live pretty close to each other if you are in fact selling them, I could definitely use them.

I install Doug's headers on my 93 f350 with the 460. I started getting an issue of the starter getting hot and it was hard to start after it got to temperature. I put a starter blanket but it's still the same. Did you had the same issue on your truck?

Francisco Campos no starter heat problems. the banks headers on there and they bend them in a way that they clear the starter pretty well however Banks also includes a heat shield for the starter.

Francisco Campos sure thing! You may want to look at possibly putting a heat shield over the starter instead of using a heat blanket. And as far as wrapping the headers, years ago when I worked at Summit Racing, none of the manufacturers would warranty any of the headers if they had been wrapped. Reason being is that wrap really does a number on the metal. Causing it to break down faster. Just a heads up. Plus a heat shield around the starter is cheaper and easier to install. Good luck

Yes... The only thing different is the cat back exhaust... It gives you a piece you wouldn't necessarily use.

No corrosion at all.... These things are no joke.... It's as if Ford supplied this exhaust from the factory

FYI if you want to buy these headers.... I just bought them but can't install driver side due to header tubes being so close to the bolt holes it is not possible to get a wrench on the bolt heads.

Nope... 182,000 and only used 1/2 quart oil on 2900 mile trip pulling 5500lb trailer down to Florida and back in July heat... Remember that all new exhaust components were coated with machining oil left over from the manufacturing process...

@@dandunning4409 that's an old wives tale. As long as you have sufficient enough pipe size you get just as good exhaust flow with a single pipe as you do duals. The other thing to be conscious of is exhaust Scavenging and how a common pipe that connects both banks of the engine we'll produce more flow and horsepower then true duals that never connect with each other. That's why crossover pipes are so popular with performance cars that are running dual exhaust. Remember Banks power has completely tuned their exhaust system from the headers all the way back to the tailpipe and they utilize a single exhaust the entire way. Now I my case I wanted to use the Flowmaster single exhaust but I could have just as easily used the tuned bank system.

i have a 1997 f250 460 4x4 im looking into buying the headmen headers from summit for 265$. but my truck id from california i know there emissions is a little different would that cause any fitting issues do you know?

You may need the headers with air tube or you may need to weld another Bung for the o2 sensors.. Talk to their tech line..

Foxboss9 ok thanks. your the only person ive seen with info on these 460. also the reason for changing the manifolds is because the one on my passenger side is cracked. it throws a code for running to lean. would that be a loss of power? cause for a 460 my truck doesnt seem to have as much as it should

Love your videos great job. On my 97 f250 460 i have a problem a couple weeks ago i was at a red light and at idle it started to stutter and almost died. Today. A couple weeks later it done the same thing. At a red light it stutterd then died i cranked it up it stalled again and this happend three times on the 4th time it cranked started and i drove off while on the way home it did not do it again it ran just fine. I replaced the iac valve on it about a year ago the previous owner attached some kind of chip to the iac and had krimped the two wires on the iac. I took it off and had to spice those 2 iac wores togather and it was running fine after i did that now a year later its dping this stalling out at idle while in gear. Any one know what could be causeing things. Thanks

I couldnt find a map sensor anywhere on it. I think where its california emissions it doesnt have one im not sure. I love in tennessee but its a california truck. And recently when i start it cold it will idle really rough for about 30 seconds like it has a cam in it then idle up normal.

CaliforniaBullies definitely an improvement.. Not only over the stock exhaust But, over the Hedman headers and no cat stock exhaust... With all the other modifications I have made.. I just came back from a 300 round-trip across the Ohio Turnpike and with cruise set at 71mph and dealing with the construction zones at 60mph I averaged 15mpg..that is the highest I have ever achieved with this truck and its 410 gearing...

I guess you said if you were still young, then only the neighborhood, your wife or parents would tell you how loud is too loud. I also wonder if Heidi was ever a willing passanger on your motorcycle?.

I suspected something along those lines. I have only sometimes observed women being unafraid to ride motorcycles. At a biker convention on South Padre island, among the many people on motorcycles was a lady without a helmet. My mother and I described it to another nurse friend and both of them would be nervously hanging on and wearing helmets, regardless of the state law if they were ever on a Motorcycle.

The flange has to be thicker with stainless. To reduce warpage after flame cutting the part and welding, . Stainless distorts like a some bitch

Really good information! I am in the process of upgrading my 97' F250! I was confused on the air/smog injection headers verses non-injection. I do live in a no emotion state and will be deleting the smog pump. It's about $300-400 less in price with no smog injection, for the Banks Power header kit. Thanks for the video and the time you have spent in educating us 460 guys! Check out EFI-460 GUY website! They have really good products and very professional!
