I invested in Thorley headers and and a programmable ECM. Didn't change anything else except electric fan and it has done wonders for my 92 460. Mine has 49k original miles and is putting out 296 RWHP and over 500 ft lbs torque. The computer is expensive but bottom line is that is the culprit in restriction. Especially with speed density setup

On 96+ maf trucks or in your case maf conversion you can get an sct 7015 x4 and you can tune for better mpg or performance

The Factory air box can't be that restrictive, it will support some 340hp and 650ft-lbs in torque. I was also noticing that your missing the tube that brings in fresh air from the front of the truck. The tube uses the rectangle cut out on the left side of the radiator. Once you find one of those and bolt it on you will see a small mpg bump. Although it looks like your not missing it too bad based on your 9.7sec 0-60 time. NICE! @ 9:07, on the left is a throttle linkage setup for a efi small block Ford, on the right is the efi Big Block.

If the air holes in the air box lead to the engine compartment,, that's HOT air.. Hot air is bad

I wouldn’t be surprised if you picked up more torque than horsepower with that throttle body. In a big truck used for towing applications, I think torque gain is more noticeable. Being able to lug up hills and whatnot without downshifting.

I know the video is a bit old, but I’d like to get your opinions on the efi460guys low profile throttle body kit as well as the twisted smog box to get rid of egr valve/ system. I’ve got my 92 460 zf5 speed truck torn down for a cam replacement and I really want to feel the increase in hp/torque. I’ve looked at pretty much all your videos and I like the tasteful modifications without completely braking the bank And I’ve followed a few of them. The debate in my mind is this bigger throttle body or the low profile, the low profile I have the option to run an old school round air filter. It looks better in the engine bay. But out of your experience what would I be losing by getting rid Of the big air horn? Any help or opinions would be helpful!! Thanks for these videos!!!

Hey I like all you videos. But was wanting to ask a question. I have a 1995 f350 7.5l drw . I'm waiting to put a Godzilla motor in it. But it maybe more than I am willing to do. So I thought about porting the head and the intake. Also doing the bbk throttle body and headers. Should I change the cam or stick with the factory cam. I use the truck to pull our 36' bumper pull camper plus it has a 1000# Lincoln welder in the back. Just want your opinion if you don't mind. Thanks

Foxboss . I just bought a 97 f350 7.5 gas ..im no mechanic and this is driving me nuts and my own mechanic keeps shining me on repairing this . The egr valve control switch is whining randomly usually when idling after its warmed up. I unplugged the vac line that goes from control switch to that canister in front by radiator and it stopped . It seems from that canister there's a t fitting which sends 1 vac line under the truck and the other is the one I unplugged from contgol switch ...any input would be great or anyone have this issue before? Thanks in advance ...love the vids thanks for your generosity of knowledge

I have a question, I installed the stainless headers, the 61mm throttle body, I also removed the air pump & all the tubing, did you install a bung for your upstream O2 sensor? The headers I bought only had one O2 sensor bung, but had the huge bung on the driver side header which was for the air pump

TPS adjustments are often made in very small parameters. It's not a bolt on/off part usually. Every TPS has different settings for each vehicle. They also don't usually require replacement, just a slight adjustment.

Great video, you helped me decide that im going to buy the BBK 61mm for my 1997 250 HD. i am also going to install the banks torque long tube and do a custom exhaust at the same time. but i couldn't help but notice your instrument cluster, i do not have a tack with my E4od, but i would like on. would you know if i could just buy that gauge cluster and if it would plug right in to the factor harness?

It should.... however they're not the most accurate tachometers. I never had much problem with mine but I've heard others say that they are either slow decline compared to what's really going on or maybe off a couple hundred RPMs.

Hello, I follow your modifications which are very interesting from France. I have a 1989 F250 460Ci running on E85 ethanol and would like to make this change. Saw the link for BBK 3502 61mm dual throttle body, but I can't find the dual air intake hose, could you inquire or provide me with a link for this dual hose and some idle air regulating electro valve,. Currently I am using 24 lb injectors and since I am on ethanol I am thinking of increasing the injector flow rate by about 20-30%. What other changes would you advise me to make? Thank you.

Hi .. I have a 95 f350 460 4x4 with 109k miles .. had water pump and mild cam done few years a go.. also k&n air filter with the air horns cut..banks headers .new fuel filter new spark plugs and wires 410 gears .well the truck hall ass and seems to be great without a load .. but I go to pull my little pop up camper and 4wheeler witch may weight 3k pounds and the truck struggles going up hill? Any idea why.. thanks

Great job, I've got a '95 and looking to upgrade also. Throttle body link shows model with linkage you didn't use. Did you order a different TB part number or get parts?

When I bought my 92 F-250 (used) it was already equipped with the Banks Power system including Banks air box top and headers. I found the air intake horns had already been cut off. But that was really rough. I spent about half an hour cleaning that up. Time well spent. spent. Also, I cut off the bottom end or the rectangular air inlet tube that brings fresh air up to the box from the front of the truck. Because I found in the stock configuration the end of the air tube hooks hard 90 * towards the drivers side and was collapsed some. I cut that trash off. The end of the air tube still sticks out beyond the body work. But I did eliminate one tight turn and a bit of constriction in the system. It definitely brings more fresh air up into the bottom of the air box.

The correct one... I only ordered 1 throttle body which is the same one that's in the link it just so happens they shipped me the wrong one. It was packaged incorrectly. So if you click the link you will get the exact one you need for a 460.

Yeah people that think a loud exhaust means fast usually don't know nothin there's more to makin a truck fast than just cats deleted, I like a loud truck but I just like it for the sound not thinkin I'm fast but yeah lots of kids where I'm from have this mind set called ricer

Since the factory system is so limiting I think an after-market fuel injection system such as haltech would be really fun to play with. Of course using something like a boat on Holley EFI would be really easy to do but instead of using the TBI injectors that the units have built-in to him I would want to try to use the factory fuel injector ports that are on the intake as it's a better design. Easiest thing to do is just buy a mass air flow conversion and convert the truck over as that would make a huge difference all by itself. Plus it's more accepting to modifications then.

runs a hell of lot better then my f250 7.5, the pig i have won't get out of it's own way, it's always amazed me how something with so little power could use so much fuel, i bought mine in 2009 with 115k miles, it's now 2023 and it just rolled over to 136k, that's 21k in 14 years, at 7 mpg can't afford to drive the pig..........

Before installing the 61 mm ,i would have port matched that upper manifold using a dremel..If the holes in the manifold are smaller than the Tb what gain will you achieve?..not only that but if there is a ridge because the tb openings are bigger the airflow will hit the ridge and cause eddies ..this will harm your flow..IMHO i tjink a throttle body spacer behind your stock tb would achieve more torque...you are actually putting more in behind the tb and speeding up the airflow with a spacer...

In the early 90s I worked at Summit Racing, and had access to all the bolt on stuff that was available for my then relatively new 1989 Mustang 5 L sedan. Since the speed density and mass air flow 302s were relatively new most of the parts that were available were only bolt on parts. I did a lot of experimenting with throttle body spacers and plenum spacers and in the end never seen results that really warranted using either one of them. Later on, throttle body spacer company started throwing in special designs with twists and turns advertising the that would increase flow straightening capabilities and better atomization and yet still I never saw any gains with those either. In 99 I leased a brand new Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 and was underwhelmed by its performance and gas mileage. I used my die grinder and then ultimately my Dremel to open up and smooth out prior to, and after, the throttle plates on the throttle body and noticed a slight gain however the overall bore size that the throttle plates rested in was the restriction on that engine. Fast forward to this 460 and it was essentially the same with this truck. Rarely does the upper plenum on any vehicle have more restriction then what the throttle blades provide when fully opened. And in this specific case the upper plenum was more than generous to accommodate the twin 61 mm throttle body. Even the lower plenum where it met the heads wasn't that far off from the intake ports. Port matching the lower plenum to the heads usually results in slightly better flow but the amount of time that's involved usually outweighs the benefit of doing it other than it doesn't cost anything to do except for some new gaskets. Of course, Port matching then smoothing out the upper and lower plenum and the intake side and exhaust side of the head always yield something but again the amount of time that's involved for to perform the work is much better served doing other modifications. I kind of think of it like painting a vehicle you could put 22 coats of clear on the car and it may add some benefit but it would have looked just fine and not benefited as much as just a couple coats of clear and have been done with it. So to sum it up the twin 61 mm throttle body addresses the biggest Air Flow Restriction that is in the entire intake system Sans the air horn velocity stack inserts that are in the intake tubes coming from the airbox which I did a video on showing how to modify those.. adding more length to runners and throttle bodies only work to a certain extent based on bore, stroke, and camshaft profiles. Ford pretty much already did what was required to provide the most low end torque from the factory. If I was to change the camshaft, Port polish the heads, and increase the valve size, at that point I would have screwed around with the runner length but again you're running into the territory of air flow bench testing and most likely won't see any gains that's worth the effort that would have to be exerted.

Check your vehicle speed sensor on the differential. Pull it out and clean it off. Also make sure the wiring is in good shape

I have a 1988 e350 460 I bought and drove home and the next day I tried to start it up it would not start I changed the fuel pump in the tank. the tank was full of bad gas and full of crud. i also changed the high pressure on frame, reservoir canister on the frame the RV has been setting for about 5 years also changed the pressure regulator I'm not sure how much psi I should have on fuel rail I'm thinking it does not have enough pressure for the ejector to open up any ideas and suggestions what might be going on with it would be helpful

Injectors don't need pressure to open, however it wont start without enough fuel pressure....Try turning key to ON(Not start) position about 5-6 times to prime/pressurize fuel system...then try to start...if the RV stumbles and almost starts then it may be a fuel delivery issue still....don't skimp out with your battery cranking power as thats a big block to get turning all those parts in... geta gauge and check your fuel pressure... BTW, if junk got in your injectors or regulator that could cause issues

Headers aren't a band-aid on a 460. Stock manifolds flow just fine. All headers do is move the power curve. Now, if your 460 is cammed out, supercharged, etc... sure, manifolds might be a restriction. The original 460 made a lot more power than these OBS trucks with what? Stock manifolds. And those 460's still have more power, stock with nearly the same manifold design, than this OBS in the video with a bunch of mods. Get headers if you want, it's your money. I've built quite a few engines and headers are usually the least cost-effective performance modification for very mild street applications. And they're noisier and often less reliable.

The linkage difference is because the first throttle body is for a Small Block Ford Truck.

The small block Ford truck BBK throttle bodies have coolant tubes that go through them. This is for an earlier 460 or it was just assembled wrong.

I am soon to take ownership of a 1994 F350 XlT with a 460V8. I was wondering outside of a typical tune up what would you recommend I have done in order to make it a more reliable driver? Any suggestions, spark plugs, wires etc. would be appreciated.

There's nothing specific about the 460 engine that has inherit deficiencies that need to be addressed for it to be a reliable daily driver. But it all depends on how many miles you plan on driving it a day. If it's going to be quite a lot you're going to want to do everything you can to increase gas mileage which is darn near impossible because the engine being so big. Of course like any engine, you want to do the basic tune up stuff including fuel filter change. If the truck has been sitting for quite some time you're going to maybe want to check the condition of the gas tanks for rust and possibly have to replace the in tank pumps if they're little bit noisier than normal. Basically go through everything like you would any other vehicle. Hopefully you're using the truck for more than just a commuter because of its size and having relatively poor gas mileage it's not a great daily go to the grocery store type vehicle. I've done a ton of videos and upgrades on this truck over the last couple years just go through and look through my videos you'll be able to see what I've done to help my cause with this one and you can choose which things you believe to be beneficial for the way that you're going to use your truck. I would recommend saving as much money as you can for fuel! Lol. They are pretty reliable motors some burn oil under load. The gauges are rarely reliable so manually check oil. The exhaust manifold leak often and they are a major pain to remove. Google the 6 liter tune up; 6 liter is the name of the guy who originally posted on ford truck forum.

Yes. The problem isn’t the throttle body. It’s the elbow. If that throttle body were mounted directly to the intake manifold then you’d be getting a serious power bump. I’m tossing around getting the 460 efi guys Holley throttle body just for that reason. Until that elbow is tossed I personally see no advantage to intake modification.

Not a whine. Went through a stressful process of vac leak chasing. Make sure intake leaks are sealed. Test with brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Around the intake. I'd wager you need a gasket or some hi-temp sealer. Then the howling squeals will subside. Report back if you see this. And lemme know. Hopefully I was helpful.

These are tuned via speed density so there isn't any real need. To fine tune you would need like a Holly unit or something of that sort

Spoke with Derale about electric fans and they were very adamant about they're not being any electric fans, from any manufacturer, that can move as much air as a good clutch fan. As far as adding auxiliary Pusher fans that's fine. But our modifications are pretty much over on that old 250. What a shame I have fun working on it.

The TCP kit is stupid expensive for what your getting and is only pushing 3400cfm. I'd be really weary putting this kit on a truck that tows or is being pushed, I'd look into a bigger rad first off, like a 4 core alumium and a better efan kit like a flexalite 295 (4600cfm) some people have done Taurus efans with good results. but again for towing heavy loads i'd opt out of an efan setup and stick with a HD rad and clutch fan setup

The point of the e-fan suggestion was not cause the truck has cooling issues. The e-fan would compliment the intake and exhaust mods done to the truck as in a few extra hp and better mpg's. There are plenty of cars/trucks whether stock or 1000 hp plus running e-fan setups just fine. Wouldn't worry about an e-fan not keeping up with this truck even when it's being "pushed". The 2019 is the work horse now anyway.

@@jasonlewis201 you're right that 2019 kind of makes all this a mute point but, speaking with Derale tech department directly, they said that they would firmly not recommend an electric fan for my combination. There are a lot of guys that try to get away with electric fans only to find out that it cannot flow even close to what a clutch fan can. They did suggest that you could use them auxiliary pushers but only in conjunction with the clutch fan. Whatever we were Towing in the middle July through Florida sitting in traffic with the AC on that fan was locked up and really screaming pulling air through that four core radiator and doing the job. The fact that two of their biggest electric fans that they offer could not match that cooling effect was definitely an eye-opener. I assume the same thing that you could get away with an electric fan. But it's not just about horsepower it's of course all about CFM and how much of that can be pulled through a radiator and an oil cooler and a transmission cooler. And that 460 is a lot of cast iron that has to stay cool. So this isn't my point of view , this is right from a leading aftermarket Electric fan manufacturer.

I just added this addition myself. And, I am experiencing the same weirdness with the shifting and hesitation. I just replaced the TPS with a Motorcraft one on the old throttle body not too long ago and, when I installed the old TB back on, everything returned to normal. I'm wondering if the aftermarket BWD sensor has more give room or something. I also know the speed density system are extremely picky on these sorts of things. Any thoughts?

Yes my son had the exact same problem with his 88 E150 Club Wagon. He put a brand name in and everything fixed itself. There is no doubt that some of these lesser Quality Parts happened to be crap

Depends on what you're going to use it for. For a daily driver it doesn't get the best gas mileage. If you think you might want to do some off roading with it and it is a four-wheel drive it's a good platform start with. If you plan on doing some truck pulls with it and it's four wheel drive it's a very good truck to have. If it's two wheel drive and you plan on towing with it it's a very good truck to have. The 200,000 miles is not a problem if taken care of and maintenance can and has been done. Parts are cheap and can be found in wrecking yards easily. Rust is always an issue one of these trucks from the northern states but all the parts can be bought to fix it. It's a great truck to learn how to work on.

That's the cruise control linkage, not transmission linkage. Transmission is 100% electronic E4OD.

Remove the section thought the fender. That "tiny" tube through the fender wall is smaller that the throttle body. Once removed the engine comes to life and will gain as much as 3 mpg. Acceleration is sharply improved. Towing will still suck the big egg.

@@Foxboss9 you already have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator... i'd assume you have a wideband 02 sensor/gauge... that's all you need. I feel like speed density works without bottle necks which is incidentally what people on a budget and speed density end up creating. this throttle body people say they end up having less surging because usually they stick a cam in there with stock heads or something.. stock TB.. advanced timing.. stoich... LSA on your cam. I'm building a 306 EFI with SD with a twin 61mm ... I port matched the plenum a few mm.. I also have to run 255 lph pumps with 36 lb/hr and turn my fuel pressure down to around 30... having a higher stall converter will also prevent surge/stall. for that to be able to cruise in lock up on the highway theres like one option...... we'll see how I do but I did research for like 2 years before I proceed. I've heard that MAF doesn't work with batch fire injection though on older SD trucks who knows.. Im not worried about MAF you can tune around it. MAF is truly a band aid for people with older EFI ... people should be putting a whole engine in harmony not just a cam. its stupid.

The best power and economy mod I did was to yank the 460 and put in a 24v cummins. Getting 26mpg and have more power than I know what to do with.
